Alienware boosts Area-51 7500, ALX to Core 2 Extreme
While there aren't too many applications that currently will tax four processors, Alienware hopes that your winter vacation spent playing "World of Warcraft" will be as smooth as sliding your old and busted gaming rig down that nearby snow-covered hill. The new Area-51 7500 (pictured) and the higher-end Area-51 ALX have just been bumped to an optional Core 2 Extreme processor, officially bringing your setup to ludicrous speed. Like its predecessor, the 7500 has a standard 1GB of RAM that can be raised to 4GB, and has your choice of an NVIDIA GeForce 7950 or a Dual NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX. The base config (that's without the quad-core) starts at $2,200 -- but where's the fun in that? Adding a Core 2 Extreme chip will add nearly another grand, while maxing out the whole equipage will put you within striking distance of $10,000 (including a $1,300 Dell 30-inch monitor and some sweet $400 speakers, of course). What about that ALX? It starts at $6,100 (quad-core action included), and naturally, maxes out just under 10K.

Do you really need that much processing power?
Want it. Saving up for tablet PC, though.
Even though i'm straight, thats one hot son of a bitch!
"Do you really need that much processing power?"
Do I need to drink my own urine? No, but its sterile and I like the taste.
... And by that I mean yes, you do need that.
Buy my daughter her first car or get one of these?
One of these... and though I'm so tempted to make a "crash" joke, I'll spare us all. ;-)
Ludicrous Speed? Sir, we've never gone that fast before. I don't know if this ship can take it.
What's the matter, Colonel Sandurz? Chicken???
For once, the PS3 does not seem so expensive.
get a better PC at www.cyberpowerpc.com

Looks like a cylon centurion.
I find this article rather amusing....considering World of Warcraft does not even support Dual Cores at this time let alone Quad Core. They have placed a 64FPS cap on all AMD/Intel Dual Core systems, game play is choppy at times due to unexplained stutters, characters do not turn like they are suppose to. These are just a few of the problems with WoW+Dual Cores.
There are so many issues at this time that Blizzard refuses to even give honest answers as to when they will be fixed. All they will say is "it is penciled in" for "a future patch". You can search the general forums and the technical support forums and find 100's of pages of complaints on the lack of support for Dual Core users.
Blizzard is more then happy to take customers $14.99 per account each month and is slow to provide customer care if any at all. With over 7 Million paying customers they can easily afford to fix issues in a timely manner, but this is what happens when the $$ becomes more important then the people that play your game.....not to mention the 800+ Queu's and hour long wait times to log into a game that your paying for during peak hours.
I find this comment rather amusing....considering World of Warcraft was only mentioned in the summary; and was only used because it happens to be a popular PC game at the moment.
"Do you really need that much processing power?"
Every time anyone asks that question or "Do you really need that much memory?" or "Do you really need that much hard drive space?" the answer is always "yes."
man, Alienware has the tightest case ever produced. period.
They picked the game to comment on =). I am just pointing out the fact that it does not support Dual Core and my thoughts on it.
As far as Dual Core / Quad Core and beyond; as long as there is substantial increases in performance then it is good...providing software developers are quick to adapt to this change and start writing more applications to take advantage of it.
Oh my gawd, processing power... *drool*
you can only choose 2 8800GTX's? like 1 isn't enough?
and in the article you should have said "have been bumped to an optional quad core QX6700 processor" to differentiate between the X6800 that.
rather than
"The new Area-51 7500 (pictured) and the higher-end Area-51 ALX have just been bumped to an optional Core 2 Extreme processor"
must... resist... buying that beast... cutting my credit card with scissors... my hands are shaking...
