From what we understand, your chances of snagging a Wii last night or today are, statistically speaking, a helluva lot better than
getting your hands on a PlayStation 3. Not that demand doesn't outstrip supply on both. So did you get one? How do you like it? If not, that's cool, no shame in the game if you tried. But we want you to tell us about it. What happened? Did you get
bum-rushed and
smack into a pole like that one guy? Good luck out there everybody, and congrats to those like Triforce above, who were rewarded for their patience and effort.

Anyone who cares enough to be posting crap like you did needs to get a life as well.
George A. P. @ Nov 19th 2006 5:01PM
haha wrong place to be bashing people like that -- I think you're words are falling on deaf ears..
Malfoy Roark @ Nov 19th 2006 1:57PM
And you're a high rolling jet setter who posts aon a wii thread in a sunday afternoon? You're a joke and in denial. :(
gadgetgirl @ Nov 19th 2006 3:05PM
Daniel, you're a sleazy bastard.
Paul Sponsler @ Nov 20th 2006 7:29PM
Seriously. If you're gonna post crap like that, then you need to take a hard look at your own life. Engadget is letting us post comments like this to let us tell their employees how popular their articles are. You are just abusing that. Shame on you! : (
Spam7 @ Nov 19th 2006 6:26PM
Ya, we're shell of human being, who would rather play a video game that requires some physical activity. I don't think that it is us who need to look at where we are going in life.
hopeyouarenotreadingthis @ Nov 19th 2006 9:40PM
Ever heard of black friday? People go out of their way all the time to get a deal on stuff to buy. It's the american way - like it or not.

The days of buying a console at launch just by walking into the store are over. Now that everyone got a taste of greed with ebay, unless you are a camper, pre-ordered or very wealthy and desperate person, there is no way of getting a console at launch any longer.
I think all 3 console makers should pressure Ebay to stop sales of latest gen consoles during the first two weeks of their launch. This is the only solution I can think of that may disuade people from buying consoles in mass just to sell on ebay. They are ruining the thrill of a console launch for all gamers.
srw985 @ Nov 19th 2006 1:41PM
why cant it come out in europe first to piss of the yanks who get it 3 weeks before us brits!
srw985 @ Nov 19th 2006 1:42PM
bet all the americans are gonna rank my post dead low now!

Prezzie @ Nov 19th 2006 3:15PM
The European Union has stricter rules and standards for manufactured goods, that is a BIG reason why a lot of products take longer to get to Europe than to America.
patrick @ Nov 19th 2006 1:54PM
Well not all Americans will at-least not me anyway. I think it would be a interesting change for them to release something in Europe first just to see what happens.
Anyway I did get a Wii and have been playing it more than my PS3 (it's still in the box) I love Zelda and Red Steel is great too. Those are the only two games I want right now but I look forward to the newer games and how they will utilize the controller into the game play. The down loadable games don't really interest me too much as I can already play all the old school games on my XBOX and PSP. I know I can't play them online but I don't really like online games so it's fine with me.
Nick @ Nov 19th 2006 1:44PM
Got to Target at 5:30 AM. When they passed out tickets at 7:00, I was #36 in line out of 51 Wiis.
Nick Torres @ Nov 19th 2006 6:59PM
I was at that exact same Target! On Peterson in Chicago right? Me I was number six....love mine so far.
linuxlizzard @ Nov 19th 2006 1:46PM
w00t I got one! XD
The best thing that happened in our wait was when the belated wal mart truck pulled in with the stock of zelda games we otherwise would not have gotten ^^
The system is great and so is zelda as it has very nice controlls amoung other things. And Wii tenis is the best thing since sliced bread XD
As I thought, Red Steel wasn't that great (my friend bought it). I didn't get to try out sword play, but the multiplayer gun fights was a pain...
Overall it was a well spent $401.34 ;D
jason Burk @ Nov 19th 2006 1:47PM
Went to a tiny little town about 2 hours from my house in CA with a walmart, walked in got #18 + #19 out of 20. LOVE IT!!!!
cldershem @ Nov 19th 2006 1:50PM
i went to a chicago TrU at about ten last night and there wasn't a person around...so i came back around 730 and was 35 out of 38 consoles...with about 20 to 30 who lined up afterwards. TrU only had like six games so i only ended up with Zelda. but this is off the hizzie, i'm all worn out from wii sports.....or maybe it was the two hours of zelda taht i lost when i failed to save before my wii locked up. hopefully thats a one time event. best day ever.
Joe C @ Nov 19th 2006 1:53PM
I got one!
I woke up at 5AM and went to a Walmart. I was about 35th in line when it was anounced that there were only 20 Wii in store but that they were going to raffle them off. We each recieved a ticket and mine was called!
I went home with a Wii, Red Steel, and Twilight Princess.
Just E @ Nov 19th 2006 1:57PM
Yep I got a wii I was 53 in line of 58 and I got call of duity which so far is pretty good. I am not used to the controller yet so before I really get he hang of it I'llplay wii sports for a while
Nate @ Nov 19th 2006 1:58PM
No, and I am pissed. Called 30 stores went to 4, all are out, damnit!

"So... Are you playing with your Wii?"
:-)
William Higgins @ Nov 19th 2006 2:02PM
Got mine at Sam's Club this morning. They only had 5 and I was the 4th in line. I showed up 10 minutes before they opened. Worked out very well.

I got to my local Target ~7:30, and all 51 tickets had already been given out. I drove to another Target that had 69 consoles, but none were available. The Toys R Us had given out all their tickets at 7am (for only about 14 consoles). At that point, I figured it was pointless to try Walmart or Best Buy, so I went home.
Sears.com listed the Wii "in stock" until you tried to add it to the shopping cart, then it was listed as unavailable. Circuitcity.com had not started selling their Wii bundle when I was looking online, but at some point it went on sale and sold out in 30sec - 1min.
Amazon.com was not selling the Wii yet, and there were ~830 "reviews" of people posting "omg, are you selling it yet?!?!?" Over the next hours, the review count kept dropping (down to 526 now), and the page indicated they would be selling them sometime this morning. I happened to catch the page when they turned on the purchase buttons for about 2 minutes. I managed to "1-click" purchase it, with a shipping estimate of tomorrow, but that quickly updated to January 20! I figure I'll let the order stand until it ships or I find something better. ;)
Ryan @ Nov 20th 2006 4:00AM
Yeah I got one! Got to target at about 4:45, watched Family Guy on my lappy for a couple hours, got ticket number 22 and walked away with a hunka hunka burning (...no not literally) Wii. Also got Zelda (but who didn't?). I'm loving just about everything so far!
Geoff Stepnick @ Nov 19th 2006 2:12PM
I tried the walmart near school but all 29 were accounted for at 7pm last night, but someone special at home went to target at 6.30 this morning and was #36 of 50. I'm happy, but I won't get to play until Thxgiving break on Tuesday :/ Better than not having one though.
Radon @ Nov 19th 2006 2:13PM
Got up at 7:30 and everywhere had lines past their quota. There was about 250 in my half of the city... Even the grocery store (who sells electronics for some reason) had 6 but gave out all their tickets at around 6 am...
Abe @ Nov 19th 2006 2:13PM
I got mine at the midnight opening at Toys R Us near Minneapolis. Instead of waiting in line all day, I just showed up around 11pm to near 150 people in line and just hopped in the back to see what happened. And I still got my Wii thanks to a huge shipment of what appeared to be about 200 Wiis they had. Also got my copy of Zelda and my dang component cables are still on back order from the online Nintendo Store.
Gamelver @ Nov 19th 2006 2:15PM
I arrived at Best Buy at 7:00AM and they handed out the tickets at 8:00AM. I was the last person in line to get a ticket...it was a close call, but at least I didn't have to sleep in the cold (which I was willing to do, but for various reasons could not). I then grabbed the last extra nunchuck attachment at a Best Buy. First impresssions of the system: Wii Sports and Zelda are awesome! Red Steel feels like it could've used a bit more work with the controls...often they're quite jumpy and are a bit inaccurate. Oh well, hopefully I'll get used to them.
Gamelver @ Nov 19th 2006 2:17PM
oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that the Best Buy had around 45 Wiis, and that there were roughly 60-65 people waiting there by the times the tickets were handed out.
Drew @ Nov 19th 2006 2:17PM
I got it on Amazon.com. Just had to keep trying. I got it after essentially 8 hours of refreshing...
My advice to all of you out there who still haven't got one- keep trying Amazon!!! And add it to your cart (NO 1-CLICK until it's in your cart), and have your payment stuff sorted out before hand.
Peter S. @ Nov 19th 2006 2:19PM
I arrived at my local EBgames at 7PM and three people later showed up before it opened. We got free "Reggienator" t-shirts since there were so few of us. I took my prepaid Wii and copies of Excite Trucks and LoZ:TP -- and I bought an extra remote and sling bag (since I was first in line, I had dibs on those).
Overall, AWESOME launch. Since the Wiis were all preordered, the remaining four people probably came today since they would be too tired to play at night!
Johan @ Nov 19th 2006 2:24PM
=(
I stayed up till 1:45 PST waiting for it to go on sale at amazon and it didn't start selling till 8:02 PST
I mean, when they say it begins selling sunday the 19th PST, u would assume midnight, right?
Shoulda left with my friend at 7am to go to best buy...
O well, i'll just wait like 2 weeks then go.. =/
Mexman @ Nov 19th 2006 2:25PM
Unfortunately no, radioshack.com screwed me, and many more, over.
Cypher @ Nov 19th 2006 2:25PM
Went to my first midnight launch at Walmart last night with a buddy. A 12 hour wait at Walmart is nothing when everyone has a ds and 2 people brought gamecubes with wave birds to setup right in the electronics department! Everyone had a great time and their were enough accessories and Zelda copies to go around. #6 out of 20 =D
Joe @ Nov 19th 2006 2:26PM
Number 3 out of 29 at the Somersworth, NH Wal-Mart.
Arrived at 5:30AM. Numbers one and two were there at 7:30 AM on Friday

gtellez1 @ Nov 19th 2006 2:27PM
I went to a Circuit City at 5:00am. Store opened at 10:00am.. I was 17 and my wife.. oops... a stranger I live with.. was 15 on the line. They had 63, at 10:00am they still had 12 Wiis available for sale. I won't even open them... I just got them to make some money on eBay.
Now... I was unable to get a PS3 but I'm #110 on the waiting list of my local Sony store... that one.. I'm keeping!!!
Ed @ Nov 19th 2006 2:32PM
even though i am dying to play Zelda, I just had to get the XboxHD-DVD first. so i'll probably get in by in january. Wii60!
Justin Gawronski @ Nov 19th 2006 2:35PM
I stood in line for 3 hours at walmart got home and my mom was like we should just save it for xmas and being all motherly which is bs because then i would not hav stood outside for 3 hours or payed for half of it!
Alan @ Nov 19th 2006 2:35PM

Evan Brower @ Nov 19th 2006 2:37PM
I got my Wii this morning!!!!!!!! I got to Target (Baltimore, MD) last night at ~12:30AM. I brought a Sharpie marker with me, and everyone in line literally wrote the number of their spot in line on their hand. It was a nice way to keep track of who was where in the line. They had 42 Wii consoles. Target employees came out and handed out tickets to us around 7AM, along with offering us hot coffee and popcorn (a breakfast combo that could not have been better, considering I was freezing near to death at that point). 3 cop cars were watching our line of over 70 people (some people ignored the fact that the only had 42) so no one started any trouble. Overall, I was very impressed with the way Target handled the launch. Not only did the ticket system dictate who got their system first, but also who got first choice at games/accessories. People also checked out in order. The only sucky thing about the experience was the cold. It was in the high 30s by morning.... I can only imagine what it was like in places where it was even colder. Anyone in Alaska camp over night, and survive??
Karl @ Nov 19th 2006 2:41PM
Yes, I was somehow lucky. I woke up early to try Walmart (I refused to stand in line all night), but the tickets were already gone, and people were coming out with Wii's. The Zellers had only 8 and the lineup was longer than that. I managed to be #41 of 60 in line at Futureshop and after a 2 hour wait, I got my Wii along with Zelda and Excite Truck. About 15 people at the end of the line went home without a Wii. I didn't try the other stores (like Toys-R-Us) because I knew that Futureshop would have the most. I've just played Wii Sports so far, and will crack open the others shortly. As I said earlier, it was very amiable in line, despite the cold weather (and snow).
Taylor @ Nov 19th 2006 2:42PM
After standing in line for 3 and a half hours, I got a Wii at Toys "R" Us! I was 18th or 19th in line out of the 65 (or so) people that showed up. Everyone got a Wii who was there, and I got games plus a controller and nunchuck.
