Home Pro Racing Simulator decks out your living room for $4,000
You know, most of us who have extra 42-inch plasma screens just kicking around usually spend our spare time watching say, "Battlestar Galactica" or some other big exploding action-packed show. It hadn't occurred to us that what our home entertainment center was missing was a Home Pro Racing Simulator, but then again, what do we know. Costco, a big-box wholesale retailer, is shipping an equally ridiculously-sized $4,000 rig that apparently acts as the perfect cockpit for racing (no, not the actual kind) or flying video games, coming complete with a steering wheel, foot pedals, 10-inch woofer, a handful of tweeters, and of course the optional, but obligatory, joystick. While the Simulator is also advertised as a "movie-going experience", we're not really sure how you're going to cuddle up to your loved one in a single seat while squashed behind a steering wheel -- we're not trying to replicate makeout point in our home theater, ya dig?

$4k and no clutch pedal & gearbox? lame
i love it....
Yup, lame ... I really thought there would be a clutch and gearbox somewhere... if not atleast a tachometer ... ? No?
Plus it doesn't even come with the display, game system, or games...seems like you could pick up a used arcade racing game from some Chuck E. Cheese for less than $4,000!
you could pick up an arcade game for less if you want to play Roadblasters but apparently the sim is good for games coming out today or tomorrow and is a much more immersive experience than arcade game, i know i make arcade games and after one week arcade drivers lose their appeal in a home
I think I'm gonna wait for the second generation.
buy a *ucking car.
I'd rather have this: http://www.freshcreation.nl/comments.php?id=126_0_1_0_C
Why not put in one of these, especially at that ridiculous price?

Silly Engadget - those who buy this don't have loved ones to be concerned with...
great observation about no clutch. the rigid seat confines the design to 'driver' only games. make the seat recline with arm rests and it could draw a fraggin crowd
It may have techtonic shift (as racecars nowadays have). Which is a pedal-less insta-shift. Although if so I still don't see a shifter.
I wonder why a $4000 racing sim deck is not using the new wheel made by Logitech. The one that has the clutch and the pedals are all made with metal.
Feels cheap with plastic pedals when its $4000 we've talking about.
Use the wheel and pedals you want!
For $4000 you can get a riced up neon with biggy wing to race in real life... LOL
Better still look at www.simdeck.com real motor, real car and actual sim racing.
Actually, this machine does have a gearbox and clutch- it just depends on the package you buy. The beauty of it is that you can customize it any way you like. The article doesn't mention the 1000 watts of power, the three adjustable force-feedback rumblers or the fact that it can be hooked up to any gaming system. Truly a sweet package. Besides, what else is out there for $4000. All the other big packages cost $10k plus.
Also, here's the link to the site where these are available direct from the manufacturer:

For that kind of money, why bother? I rather pay a fraction more and get a real sim unit. Check this out!

2500W of sound and vibes, surround sound, surround visuals and all adjustable. Seems the Pro Drivers are using this one too!! And all for less than 10k!!!
