ViewSonic debuts 3 new "bigger, faster and sleeker" widescreen LCDs
In another foray into the never-ending LCD spec bump war, ViewSonic just threw down 3 new widescreens of the LCD variety for your desktop enjoyment. There's plenty to love here, not least of which is price: the 19, 20 and 22-inchers go for $199, $349 and $399 respectively. The specs ain't too shabby either, with 5ms response times all round, and 1680 x 1050 resolutions in the larger displays, with a 1440 x 900 19-incher holding up the low end. The 22 and 19-inch displays, VX2235wm and VX1935wm, have 700:1 contrast ratios, while the 20-inch VX2035wm hits 800:1. The two smaller displays sport 300 nits of brightness, while the larger one manages 280 nits, and all the displays are privy to stereo speakers, newly designed thin bezels, and integrated power supplies. Not bad at all for the price, and while we're not exactly sure when these go on sale, we're guessing you can nab one soon.

I bought the exact same 22inch ViewSonic for $300 from Costco about month ago... same style.. same spec.
They still have it on sale for $350..

Me too. I was a little confused at seeing this here. Maybe Costco had an early release special with this or something? Before I bought, I looked around and couldn't find it anywhere else (Newegg, etc...). Wierd.

I think you have to be careful when buying Viewsonic products. I bought a
VA 912B (19" LCD) about six weeks ago. A few days ago, it would not power on. When I called Viewsonic for warranty repair information, I was informed that they only had two service centers in the US, and that if I could not bring it to one of them, I would have to ship it to them at my expense. No matter how good the specs and price, I will not buy their products any more.

Thats fairly common now to require the buyer to ship it back at his own expense.

These new displays are nothing to write home about. When they get to these prices and sizes with 1080p resolution then come wake me up.

CompUSA has the 20 and the 22 inch versions ($299 and $379 on sale online)

i refuse to buy one of these until they take off those stupid parrots
Postma @ Nov 25th 2006 12:21AM
My work bought 6 of these for the helpdesk about 8-10 weeks ago.... This is hilarious that Engadget is *this* far behind in the release!
rems @ Nov 25th 2006 1:21AM
My 19 Inch which is QUITE old even beats this resolution, it cost me 10$ lol I don't think anybody uses 1440*900 as their main resolution... This is based on the last http://www.steampowered.com/status/survey.html
I don't think I'll go for this one even if it is being sold with such a low price :P better wait for Moore's law to be applied in this domain.

Someone tell me why this is $200 in the US (~120) but in the UK it's 200 (~$350)
lUp @ Nov 25th 2006 7:01AM
are these basic tfts? or pro specs? 'cause i bought a VP231wb 23,1" for...ummm...1115 . and now i'm seeing 22" for 300 $ (!!!).

Those are near pro' pannels. Tomehardware.com specs the pannels just before those models, and rates them as close as you can get to a pro pannel.

Just bought the 22" yesterday from Circuit City for $359. I'm really happy with it so far, it's huge! I've got it hooked up to my Mac Mini Intel. Text looks crisp and the HD trailers on Apple.com look even better.

When you guys write about these new monitors you MUST mention what kind of panel the monitor is based on... is this a TN, PVA, IPS, etc.. saying 5ms means nothing as each panel will ghost differently... plus you have no idea if this really is anything *new* or just a new design to the old cheap panel they've been using for years. Yeah yeah i know i can click the links and search all over for the specs, but that should be something basic thats included with any mention of a new monitor as it's probably THE most important think to know...
