XNINE's MMP X-500 includes a speaker -- and doesn't suck
Look, we're sorry, but we just don't get this whole built-in speaker fad. All that bulk, for what? It's not like anybody wants to hear what we're listening to anyways, and the speaker "fidelity" can hardly be termed thus. But if we were to rock such a superfluous speaker, we might give this XNINE MMP X-500 player a shot. The 1GB Korean DAP sports a decent looking 2.2-inch screen, microSD expansion, FM radio, voice recording, video playback and that silly ol' speaker -- without putting on too terribly much bulk in the process (13.2mm thick to be exact, 0.52-inches). We're also fairly impressed with the codec support on this little number, including AVI, DivX, XviD, MPEG, WMV, WMA, ASF and MP3. XNINE even packed in a few games for kicks. No word on price, and we're not expecting to see this thing in the States anytime soon, but at least we wouldn't mind seeing it on this side of Pacific.

Unfortunately, a large percentage of people don't understand this. These people tend to have car stereos that cost more than their car, and like to leave them on at the gas pump with the windows down, even when they aren't at their vehicle, so you can hear the crappy R&B they're listening to. That, good sir, is the target audience.

"It's not like anybody wants to hear what we're listening to anyways" should be in quotes above. I guess I just lost the Internets.

I touched with one of these......I am not fond of this product. I like the Ipod better cuz Im more organized with my music. Zune is capable to do more....I don't like how it looks (way too big for average pocket). Cheap plastic, c'mon, at least make it look as good as the xbox 360. I want to see verision 2 of zune soon.

The best reason I have for using built in speakers for these small mp3 players is for listening to radio shows. You don't need high fidelity sound for radio and shows like the Phil Hendrie Show (now defunct but years of archive shows are available) are great to listen to like this

Obviously you've never ridden a bus in London with a bunch of teenagers on the back seat. They just love to let everyone hear the latest grime tracks blasting out of their mobile phone's speakers, so something like this with a bit more storage space would be a perfect xmas present for the little angels.

I own the Samsung with the fold out speakers- and let me tell you- its one of the best gadgets I've ever owned. I bring it to work with me (I do home theatre for mega-millionaires) and sometimes I'm stuck in one place for a while (doing wiring/terminations/etc) and having a mini "boom box" has literally changed how I feel about going to work. Don't knock it till you've tried it. For the record, just because YOU don't understand something, doesn't mean it doesn't have a very useful purpose.
