We don't yet know much, but it looks like DirecTV is getting ready to unveil a rather clunky looking 70s-brown-and-beige-fabulous portable receiver called the SAT-GO (or maybe that's SATGO, either way). Stay tuned for more details.
I agree with Tony. Im betting the portion bhind the screen that unfolds is the dish.. And as Tony says, youll have too always be facing SW to watch TV.. To me working in the Field I do, I find this to be a joke.. LOLOLOL..
there's already a third party thing akin to this called the Satcom Passport. http://www.satcomweb.com/miniplus.htm. Actually it's been around for a while. This thing looks kinda clunky, especially considering you have to point it at the satellite (which means southern exposure). So if you don't have a clear view of the south where you want to watch it, no dice. Your couch points north, but you want to see directv? You're gona have to turn the couch. It looks like this is one-piece. It would be much better if you could detach the antenna on a few feet of cable, and thereby position it for a good signal, without having to reorient the whole unit.
The DIRECTV SATGO ("Satellite-To-Go") provides consumers with satellite-delivered television programming entertainment and information anywhere, and at any time, in a single, convenient, and portable package.
It looks to me like the lid/antenna/dish (with handle) either swivels 180 degrees, or is slotted out and back, and hinges down to latch closed at the base of the screen. I suspect that it slots/unslots, enabling the lid to be cabled to a convenient locaton.
Either way, it is dang ugly. What's with the sudden interest in brown?
You guys act like pointing it to the SW is a bad thing. Actually, it's a feature. Not only does the SAT-GO give you great programming, it serves as a compass. When reception is clear, you're facing SW!
Concept great but does it have to look like a TV you'd find bolted to the seat at a greyhound or amtrak station ... that reads TV in giant letters in case you thought maybe the person was staring intently at laundry?

I'd rather a better car antenna then something like this.

I'm guessing that the lid is the dish and will have to point it in the southwest to be able to watch the shows?
Brown is too 70's for me...

DIRECTV has set up a web page - http://www.directv.com/satgo - to collect names of people who'd like to be contacted once Sat-Go becomes available.

I have been doing this for years with my current system when tailgating at football games. Here is a step by step article showing how to do it.
