Looks like AMD has a sweet new rig they're readying for January launch, and word on the street is Bill Gates wants to launch it personally. It's the IQ770 "Crossfire," the first mass market touchscreen desktop PC we've seen, surely good for taking advantage of Vista's integrated tablet functionality. The Vista Premium system, set to launch alongside Windows on January 30th, features a massive load of options including: 19-inch touchscreen, AMD Turion 64 X2 dual core TL-52 processor, 2GB SDRAM, 320GB drive, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600, WiFi, Bluetooth, integrated 1.3 megapixel camera, integrated FM and ATSC HDTV tuners, a DVD±RW / DVD-RAM burner with LightScribe, Pocket Media Drive bay, wireless keyboard, mouse, stylus, front media reader, and a crazy amount of ports (Ethernet, two FireWire, six USB 2.0, one with HP printer power Y-cable connector, 5.1 + digital audio out, IR out, mini-VGA, and inputs: FM coax, TV coax, ATSC, and two S-Video). It also features some new widget-like dashboard interface, featuring HP new SmartCalendar, which serves as a central point for virtual fridge notes and shared family calendars; as well as Photosmart Touch, a new image editing and printing interface. Expect to pony up $1799 - $1899 for this iMac killer in a couple months. Tons more photos after the break!
i cant get my builti-in webcam to work can some one help?
all you imac "fans" and users... your pathetic. PC dominates over everything that is imac, always has and always will. Anything kills an imac. imac is garbage and no matter how many boring commercials imac comes up with to put down PC, PC will always stay on top of imac.
I don't know where these apple fans come from with their all those nefative comments but even though I don't like HP computers I prefer building my own, apple is so limited in terms of computing and features that this PC beats IMAC without touchscreen features. I think the idea is great and pretty soon most of home PC's will have those features especially with a release of touchscreen version of Vista next year. And for Apple fans that think change is too hard to grasp they should stick to Macs.
well i thought that the computer looked very cool. i'm sure they'll come out with better versions over time, faster and the like... but they've definitely got my interest
how much to c / it's to exps how to but lowestprces
But its HP.
Still waiting for your point...
I can't imagine that killing an imac unless you dropped it on one.
@ Jengake ...that's hilarious.
@Jengake ...LOL. XD
lmao! I spat my drink out! That was too funny!
Nice, but hardly an "iMac killer."
Its about as much as an iMac killer as the Zune is an Ipod killer.
So what is Apple's response going to be? A better version of FrontRow and a new iMac? We can only hope for now.
so umm when can we DIY have a chance at building one of these?
Everything HP sucks... Well not the printers.
Yup. Even the printers.
I mostly agree but i saw this in office depot and it is pretty cool.
i happen to think that introducing a brand new interface everytime a pc manufacturer comes up with a great new idea creates alot of confusion, and people who have a hard time with computers are only more confused when every computer they buy has different software and features that constantly require you to re-learn how to use the same os. The learning curve and adaptation required to integrate this "dashboard" into your life is inpractical, and the funny design of this computer will really deter people who are looking for simplicity. I like innovation and touch screens are always fun, but not enough people are going to spend $1900 jsut to have a pretty(complicated) new way to write notes and organise there calanders in the kitchen.
I agree...what these people need to do is go back DOS and forget about the pretty little icons!
I actually find that this computer is easier to use than ANY I have ever had so far...but I am only 55...I think I have thrown that many out in the trash.
So... does it run OS X?
No?
Then it doesn't even come close to being an iMac killer...
The point is it does NOT run OS X. To be an iMac killer, they don't need to make something the-same-as-but-better than an iMac, they just need something that seems more featureful and with a similar form factor, to provide an alternative to switching. Macs are a minority, see?
Anyway, I love the way that few here will admit this thing is kinda cool. It is. Its basically a does it all super home computer (though probably the software is a let down, some of it sounds like shovel ware). Maybe Macs will have all these features in a year.
Too bad OS X sux and you guys who say this computer sucks are all about stupid.
That seems like a good price - but whats with the turion?
PLUS.. I heard mac's suck in bed.
still think its a step in the right direction. just wont buy it from hp.
Especially the printers. And their cameras too.
I would never buy HP(or Compaq)Our HP Pavillion 8660c has a motherboard defect that causes it to freeze whenever it goes online. Plus they didnt provide drivers and software support for people who wanted to upgrade the machine to WinXP (It currently has Win98SE. I totally agree with Matt and Lankysob. HP sucks!
It'd be nice if it was Core2 Duo based instead of Turion X2. I wouldn't touch another Turion machine with a thirty-nine and a half foot pole.
iMac Killer? Hardly!! Have you seen the size of its footprint!? how bulky and overpowering it is? From what I can see of these pictures it is a midi PC with a monitor stuck on top! not a particularly sleek one at that! Looks like "Johnny 5" from short circuit!
If the iMac were more like a mac mini in a box 3 or 4 times the size, with an apple 20" monitor stuck on it with another seemingly pointless piece of plastic to support it, then it may be close! yes, it boasts more power, speed and may be cheaper with the addition of a touch screen, BUT I dont think Apple have anything to worry about just yet as regards the iMac.
Could it be mounted on a wall or place on a small desk? not really.. I think it will be a while before anyone comes up with anything quite as sleek, stylish and small as the current iMac.
Yes, I am a mac fan but being realistic, you put the 2 together there is no comparison!
Woho! that thing is pretty nice and unexpected. I hope it remains in below 2000$ price range
Is that kid feeding the computer a picture??? Built in scanner/printer?
That is the same question that was on my mind. The kid is either scanning the picture or printing it. Now wouldn't that be cool if it has a built-in printer/scanner. Only things I hate about all-in one units is that they are typically expensive and once they break your either SOL on the whole thing or screwed on paying a lot of cash to get it fixed. Cool concept none the less. Like the calenday interface and slot loading is definitely cool.
The flat computer back is designed to stand a compact photo printer on top. It's not built in, but the flat top and slit make room for the printer to sit. If you examine the picture, you'll see part of a printer that isn't in other pictures. I think it's cool.
Also, after running numbers, HP is the #1 computer maker in the world and they boast the industry's highest reliability. Seems strange since they used to be lowsy. I swear by their newer business class machines though. I'm still warming up to the retail stuff (which this is).
The GUI is nice...now...where have I seen that before...
Looks similar to something that came out about oohhhhhh 5 years ago.. what did they call it?? oohhhhhh...
thinking..
Yes, thats it! OSX
Microsoft BOB!
HP is tops in sales. This thing looks pretty sweet to me.
This is one nice computer (and this is coming from a Mac user), but as mentioned earlier, it has a Turdion X2 (read: pathetic performance). Still, I wouldn't be surprised if HP also offers a Core 2 Duo model.
I also noticed in several of the photos that there's a matching printer that slides in underneath the screen... after all, it wouldn't be HP if there wasn't a way to cash in on those ink profits.
Dont see the point of having the gfex card cos they aren't "gaming" and why would you game with a touch screen?
it looks way to big...dont like its name *crossfire* cos that will just confuse things as it as a nVidea card and why did they use that name?
if i had that money, i would spank it on something else like a good computer -_-;
@ stephan
there is a printer behind it i just saw it... lol
HP should write their own OS and tell Gates to blow them.
Oh, something like HP-UX, right?
thats nothing
Just wait until you guys start to hear about Smartlife's MooshBoard
oh just wait, the revolution has just begun
GO RTP startups!!!
If this thing has a virtual fridge notes why not have something similar but scaled down actually integrated into a fridge. You can have notes, shopping list. It can probably alert you when your milk expires (through RFID tags). And then you synchrinise the shopping list with your PDA just before going to the supermarket.
http://www.geek.com/images/geeknews/oct00/3comaudrey.jpg
It's a 3com Audrey killer...oh, wait...
Actually, I might be interested in a unit along these lines, but with the concept of being kitchen oriented with under-cabinet mounting and water resistance like the ICEBOX units.
see, i don't think microsoft has to worry about making an 'imac killer' considering that apple has such a small share of desktop computers. i'm sure there will still be plenty of das buying pink imacs for their daughters come christmas time, but microsoft and PC manufacturers still have a pretty strong hold on the home computer market. and seeing microsoft's stronger efforts to move in on the media center market (aka xbox 360 and that pos media center XP), i don't think they have much to worry about apple. apple's computers are very niche based, a niche that wouldn't really be a huge profit for microsoft.
Um, don't we want to discourage our kids from touching our monitors. Most of my friends with kids have TVs that look like crap. Why would you ever want to encourage them to touch the screen. Mind you, I'm using a tablet pc to write this right now, but no chance in hell I'd let a kid get near it.
I want one. I don't think its an imac killer though, although i would choose one of these over any apple computer.
I don't actually remember HP making anything that sucked. The machines weren't exactly gamer quality, but then, they weren't intended to be either. Maybe that is where you are getting confused, see your family had an HP back in the day and it wouldn't play Starcraft or Diablo the way you wanted, for those that even remember Starcraft or what the first Diablo was like. And for those that don't, or weren't actually old enough to understand them, you probably only know HP machines as part of the Walmart lineup of available computers sitting next to eMachines, machines that do actually suck. If that is the case, when you start basing the quality of the product on where it comes from instead of actually using it, maybe you should just shut the hell up.
HP is of a much higher quality and reliability than any Dell. And I would really like to see what kind of printer you people are using if you think HP printers are crap. Let me guess, Lexmark, with its 100MB+ of bloatware and diagnostic tools? Do you need a printer that is required to install voice announcements? Not to mention the low-res prints...Grow up, you're just mad this machine isn't a Mac or an Alienware. I just wish it was available in sizes bigger than 19".
disciple83:
Remember when HP merged with Compaq?
Shut your piehole. Thank you.
Actually, they did make a few gaming machines (read, laptops, new 4 core desktop) but i have a freind who has a gaming laptop from hp, and it SUCKS. i really dont think that the imac has anything to worry about, being a grand less, having better software, and looking like something theyd put up in a college cortyard.
Alienware was good tell dell took over, now its shit imo. i will never own another Alienware unless its befor dell took it over then i would just update it myself.
iMac killer, iPod killer, everyone thinks Apple is a target, but they keep missing it. Why is that? Just look at this monstrosity! What a joke.
It can't run OS X software, the iMac can run all the software it can. Now, what's going to kill what you say?
SEXY!!!!!! I WANT! well my mom will want... i build my own computers cause i hate retail outlets like hp.
@Nith
That is something LG could do to get some use out of that tv on their fridge. I figure something like that would get some use out of it.
The HP system seems realy cool as far as hardware goes. Not too sure about the software. What is realy interesting is how quickly (if this becomes moderately successful) touchscreen monitor integration will be after this with everyone trying their hands at it. This is definately something I would get for my parents and siblings. Wish they would post a release date though.
What's an iMac?
Boy, those Mac kids came out pretty quick... I agree with you, disciple83, all the HPs I've had were reliable and pretty slick looking, too. I'm on my HP laptop right now, which aside from the loudish fan, is my favorite I've ever owned. AND THAT INCLUDES A 12" POWERBOOK.
Well, you're a mean one.
[grin]
You know, it's funny. I like Macs, and I like OS X. Hell, even Steve is enjoyable to listen to. I just really despise the fanboys.
buisness grade hp's have always been pretty good, it's the consumer grade ones that sucked because they cut too many corners. though in the last 5 years or so the stopped that and it's the same reasonable stuff now.
older hp inkjets sucked bad, the newer ones are great though, anything that suports borderless printing has awesome print quality and reliability. the laserjets still suffer the same "2 classes" issues the old desktops did. the low end kind where the paper trays stick out, like the 1200 series and the old L series, are crap printers. But I've got 5P's with 200k+ pages run through them over the last 8-9 years that still work as good as new. And the 4000 series just won't quit even in a machine shop printing cardstock. got one near a steel saw that's flat out nasty with a thick layer of steel cutting coolant from the mist sticking to it, it has printing 100+ pages a day on cardstock for the last 6 years, you just can't kill these things!
as for this thing, it's ugly. I think it's more targeted at the sony all in ones that are way sexier than the imac. I'd like to see soemthing more at the $500 level that's not so loaded-to-the-gills targeted as a secondary family pc that you hang a wall and show a slideshow most of the time but still allow for a quick internet search or shared calendar review, nothing you'd want to spend hours sitting in front of but still usefull.
I'm such an apple fanboy but I have to admit that the new umpc and this baby right here has got me thinking that my next computer might run windows vista. I'll always have a mac laptop but just for the fact that Vista media center integrates with the Xbox 360 so easy is reason enough to have a windows desktop
I don't know why everyone is hating this... Personally, I like it a lot; Touchscreen (you know this is good if you have a PDA), Vista, and built-in everything. I think it looks pretty slick, not as sexy as my old Vaio laptop, but hell, I'd be happy with it in my room. Personally, If I ever did get one (I doubt it, because I prefer custom built by myself), I'd have a dilemma deciding whether to stick it in the living room or my own...
It's not the footprint I'm concerned with, it's the fingerprints and handprints. Sure there's a stylus... but at that size, how long until someone would find it more convenient to just double-tap things with their fingers?
Then there would be those who'd try moving things around the Minority Report way...
Does anyone other than Apple have the slightest clue how to design a box that is not, in a word, hideous? Answer: Nope. This thing is awful.
Why do people keep saying "it's ugly"? ARe you scared it may really be an iMac killer of sorts?
Think about this:
- it looks like any Panasonic, Sony or Philips DVD & Plasma/LCD TV,
- iMacs are pretty... but people like to be individuals. Black or White isn't enough of an option for most people,
- it will do exactly what families need (as shown by the well setup photos),
- it will encourage Dell/Alienware, Acer, Asus, Sony, Epson, and Toshiba to invest more money in this 'design stuff',
I noticed that HP are too much of a pack of fence-sitters to include either a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray drive. It doesn't matter though, all that will be over once broadband speeds up a litle more and we can download anything we want in just minutes.
This will have AMD and Intel processors eventually and it has so many more features than an iMac.
I can appreciate Apple's design and still admit this a nice computer.
Between this and HP's dvt laptops they are making some nice design changes.
Hey, thanks for labeling this as an iMac killer Ryan. That certainly brought the fanboys out in droves, now didn't it? Good to see people pragamatically looking at what is, at the least, an interesting device rather than immediately and immaturely writing it of due to the apparently outlandish claim that this device could possibly upend a precious Mac device.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing more about this device. The processor appears to be a bit skanky, but I suppose caveats like that are why I'm never an early adopter to begin with.
prepare to get pw0ned, by some guy pressing buttons. OH! Served!
now then, it doest look like any tv ( most are silver sleek, and the base is a base, not a printer)
imacs dont have PHSYICAL custimisation, but you can custimise the screen backround, which is most of the front (besides, how many ppl have seen your computer) its not like there is that many imacs, a hell of a lot less than dells or HPs.
familys will probably find this comfusing, and most familys that need all of this stuff probably arleady have it, and would find
it easier to just buy a new desktop instead of printer, monitor, ext. Also alienware and dell already workin heavily on design, and not evrey one has brodband, let alone the knowledge or time to dowload it. in fact, 50% of the ppl who have macs are over the age of 55, and this is why. take in mind that this is from someone who has NEVER owned a mac, and has a gameing pc, and and xbox.
however im tired of some of the pc worlds lack of inovation.
rant out.
I have to say, I don't usually read the comments on Engadget but.... oh boy did you guys get the Apple fanboys' panties in a twist
As for this being an iMac killer or not, I don't think you can even compare the two. This has a touch screen and media center, which makes it a sort of hybrid tablet PC and media PC.
Frontrow is just a stripped down version of Windows Media Center with a different UI. Since this thing is running Vista and not XP, you can expect a lot of nice hardware accelerated graphics effects.
dust trap
Thanks Ryan for getting all the fanboys crawling out of the woodwork.
On a second note, I must add that in my opinion, HP makes great consumer PCs and printers. After the board of directors kicked out Carly Fiorina, HP has really been making leaps and strides in terms of improving quality and making better machines.
Also, I don't think HP is trying to take down Apple. Something more realistic would be bypassing Dell as number one.
I really don't like the name--has the wrong connotation, especially when you put little kids in with the marketing pics. The device looks good from the front, but from the side, it looks waaaay to busy.
Apple fanboys, have fun rejecting every single point I just made.
Neat!
TGhe kid is just taking a photo from one of those 4x6 hp photosmart printers. I am assuming that is why the computer comes with the usb y splitter for printer power. That way your photo printer is right there.
I don't understand why mac fanboy cannot accept if this is much better than their iMac.
wow its like a mac but with actually usefull features like a tv tuner and card reader. You think for something so expensive the iMac would have that. I sell computers for futureshop and at the moment HP is the best prebuilt we sell. I personally hate them. But this thing rocks. I will buy one of these as soon as it hits the shelves at work. I was an apple fan for a few years. But after running Vista for the last 3 months I Microsoft has won me back. The Zune helped to. iPods used to be good but now I see at least one returned to work everyday because apple is pumping stuff out so fast that it has no time to be tested. PC and .1 .2 .3 version of an OS is not a new OS its the same damn thing and you should not have to pay for it. Anyway by the time I am done writing this there will be a newer smaller iMac with built in prestige on the shelve and the old ones will be obsolete. Then the iPod micro will be out and it will only be half the size and hold twice as many songs. The only problem is it will not work but apple will still sell them cause you need one to be cool. That is all I have to say about that piece of garbage called the iPod. In conclusion. Apple is so yesterday. They try to hard and the produce crap that is half as good as a pc that costs half the price.
I never understood all the hype of touchscreen enabled, desktop devices. Wouldn't your arm get tired?
Looks like a George Foreman grill with a monitor attached.
I'm surprised no one has wondered if this is a old school touch screen that can only track a single point of contact, or one of the bleeding edge, multiple point of contact touch screens as seen here..... http://cs.nyu.edu/~jhan/ftirtouch/
HP must have learned their lesson, because they only have two models that are even remotely billed as "gaming" computers. In the description, it says "Great For: PC games that feature 3-D imagery and rich multimedia".
On another note, I don't really see how families will find this confusing to use unless they have problems with using a touchscreen...
why make a desktop a touchscreen? I could see if this was a tablet with the dock set up that came bundled together, but it doesn't make much sense to me.
My god it is a political world. Not everything HP sucks. I ahev many HP computers and printers in my lab and I have less problems with them then any other equipment I have. I have a HP TC-1100 that is 4 years old and it is running Vista Final version very well.
Everyone should stand back and watch. This is just the begining of a convergence. The train is on the tracks and has been for a while.
Things are getting fun and usable. This is not about killing different products this is about meeting customer needs.
Good Job HP! I am in line for this device.
like surfwax95 said, it's hardly an "iMac killer". I mean, seriously, a printer built into a desktop computer from hp? It reminds me of that credit yes commercial when the paper comes out of the screen. For now, definitely not an "iMac killer".
Oh my God!. It's a beauty! This is truely an innovation. I have never been a fan of all-in-one PC. But this one changes my mind. I want one in my living room. And one more in my office. I hope HP will also bring out a model with intel Core 2 Duo processor.
iMac Killer? Well as I see it, people buy a mac for more of the operating system, and even though you can run OSX natively on a windows computer (I have seen it done on an AMD before) most people can't make the tweaks needed, and wouldn't. Its not an iMac killer, but maybe more of inspiration for Apple. I have been waiting to see if they will ever adapt some touch screen technology into their computers. The iMacs themselves would be great for that, or maybe even a tablet Mac Book Pro
Mmmmmm.....
Its a nice touch of HP to actually deliver such a product, as a mac user, i wouldnt buy it, but at least they'r trying, and HP never sucked, previously owned an HP laptop and had a wonderful experience with it, maybe in a few years time we can stop and say... Mmmmm, thats worth sth...
"The learning curve and adaptation required to integrate this "dashboard" into your life is inpractical, and the funny design of this computer will really deter people who are looking for simplicity."
So, I suppose there's no reason for Windows users to try to switch to Macs.
"The GUI is nice...now...where have I seen that before..."
I hope you're not trying to say it's stolen from Apple! Because it's not. Whenever someone brings that crap up, I like to mention that both Microsft AND Apple stole their original GUI from XEROX!! Apple was even worse; they even stole their employees!
I am not a techie by any stretch of the imagination, but I am around techies in my own way. I have to say, I LOVE the touchscreen idea! Now if this thing is more stable than XP and it stays under $2,000 it could be fun! but it sure is interesting to read responses to this from technically savvy people.
"It's the IQ770 Crossfire, the first mass market touchscreen desktop PC we've seen" - that's possibly because you're not old enough. It isn't even the first desktop computer HP has sold with touch screen capabilities standard, see http://www.columbia.edu/acis/history/hp150.html
Bet it's a resistive touchscreen. Which is why none of the photos shows it directly; looks too cloudy!
Ok, so the PC fanbois are saying this is an iMac killer?!? Let's note its shortcomings:
--Crossfire $1799 for a 19 inch screen, versus iMac $1499 for a 20 inch screen
--Crossfire huge desktop footprint, versus iMac tiny footprint (I can put stuff under my iMac)
--Is the Crossfire screen turnable to show someone sitting next to you something? iMac is easily turnable. Also helps when using video conferencing and you want to show some other aspect of the room you're in.
--Crossfire looks like some 1970s electronic gizmo (seriously, it looks similar to a stereo system my family had back then). iMac is much better looking. Granted this is subjective, and some people do like electronics with the fake wood grain from the 1970s.
--Crossfire has inferior processor. iMac has Core 2 Duo.
--What use really is a touchscreen with a stationary desktop? Are you going to use it as a kiosk or something? For a portable (say a Palm) I can see the advantage, but I assume you won't be carrying this around to jot down an address or phone number. Mouse is easier than lifting your arm to poke at a screen. Seems like a gimmick, although perhaps there are some uses.
--FM Tuner? Why not use iTunes Radio instead? Fewer (or no) commercials. Better selection. Granted, you need an internet connection.
--HDTV Tuner? Why not watch TV on your regular TV? That way you can use your computer at the same time if needed! Regular TV probably looks better, and is positioned in the room better for viewing (unless your couch is right in front of your computer).
Crossfire advantages:
--More RAM, a bit more hard drive space.
--Probably better speakers (iMac speakers suck).
--Graphics chip seems to be a wash.
Final analysis:
Crossfire costs more than an iMac while having a smaller screen and a worse processor. It takes up more of your desktop, isn't as flexible when using with friends or family members for in person use or video chatting, and frankly I think most people would say it looks a lot worse. Its media center attributes are only minor draws, and most people don't watch TV on their computer, or listen to FM radio at their computer. And this is the iMac killer? Riiight . . .
What an ugly dust trap. Did it ever make it out of engineering to Industrial Design - or perhaps HP don't use Industrial Designers?
Wait....this is supose to go in your Kitchen? Look how HUGE it is!
Nobody that I have ever met has ever put an iMac in there kitchen, or barly any computer at all. This is a step backwards for homeware. Look at the picture of it with the kid, it looks like its going to eat him!
To do a Kitchen computer, you would want a device with a screen on it around Wii-size that can be sucktion-cupped to a wall. Full touch screen and voice command with very big text and icons to click on.
BestBuy has this out on display, but not for sale yet. It's pretty cool and I really only see your hardcore gadget junkies buying this thing or someone w/unlimited cash. If I'm using this computer at my desk I wouldn't even use the touchscreen for browsing the internet. The mouse is more practical and easier. The onscreen keyboard is small and basically useless. The programs responded quickly and I didn't notice any lag. I do mostly photo editing and can't see where this computer's touchscreen would be useful.
It would be perfect at a kiosk to buy movie tickets where all you did was punch a few icons.
Go ahead Fess up, iMac users this Technology is sleek and unique. I must admit
I am surprised HP is the first to launch this new tech. and not Dell or Gateway.
It looks like it might be wall mountable. The system folds up somewhat, and looks like it could be positioned under a cabinet or just on a wall somewhere in a house.
"I like to mention that both Microsft AND Apple stole their original GUI from XEROX!!"
I think that you missed the point that Apple paid Xerox for the commercial rights. And Microsoft did licence the Windowing concept from Apple. This is according to Steve Wozniak. No "theft" happened here.
HP does make good stuff, but the point is to avoid a lot of their consumer stuff. I had an HP inkjet that would only hold one cartridge, and it would be color or black, to make black when it printed a color page, it wasted all three colors to make a bad black and it frequently jammed with paper. The HP laserjet that I have is great, auto duplexing, networked and has printed an obscene number of pages with almost no paper jams. Really, pretty much any commercial company makes good computers, you just need to buy them through their business division, at the very least, it usually gets a better warranty and not too much crap is pre-installed.
This think looks nice. It does not look like it was made with depth in mind, the horizontal module should have been vertical so it doesn't take so much desk space. Or given that it's designed for touch use, at least make it shallow so stuff can be put behind it. Making things thin but still take up a lot of desk space is not a good use of money.
Best thing in one package since sliced bread. Comming from an A+ technician, and computer sales, that uses the touchsmart daily, this is the first Vista loaded machine that does give an error messege every 2 mins.
Same OS but but better attitude. But if u have $2000 to buy a mac, that does half of wat the touch smart does then go ahead. Then add bluetooth, and wireless g, and Digital and analog tv tuners AND FM radio, wireless mouse and keyboard and then im sure that mac would cost around $5000.
All thoses features come on the HP touchsmart and oh yea its also a touch screen all for less than $1800. Is there a mac that can do that? And wat are people complaning about? You cant judge a computer buy its pictures. Unless you are a mac lover only that is.
AMD Turion is OK. I have a HP computer with AMD 64 X2. IF you want a Intel, open up the PC and get the core quad or core 2 duo. But the AMD has the same speed but, its cheaper. I compared two PC with AMD and Intel and AMD is Cheaper. I like hp IQ770, I wish that I want one.
By the way, is there any other all-in-one PC with a touch-screen LCD monitor?
Well, Mac is in a completely different world than PCs, so no you can't compare them for those of you who are Mac users. In the PC world it's a step up from the rest, whether it's HP or not. Some people may have just had a bad experience, but then again all machines are MAN MADE so of course all 100% off the line aren't perfect. I myself have a MacBook with the Intel Core2Duo in it and its made my life more difficult than a regular PC and it's having a lot of problems and all I use it for is basic e-mailing and internet searches and papers, so then again I say it's all about the personal experience. I love that finally a company has come out with a computer that's easier for everyone to use, especially little kids. Now they too can learn how to use a computer since they're used for everything now. As for the printers, HP always seems to come out on top.
I love macs, however the current model is not to my liking...so bought this and have to get into windows a while, but the next imac, well I will switch again....touch screenis awesome, played with one for a hour...
