LG's KC1 Windows Mobile-powered smartphone to hit Korea with WiMax
While LG's Chocolate assortment is growing with feature-packed additions at an alarming rate, there looks to be a WinMo-powered sugar daddy headed down the pike with WiMax ready to rock. We knew Samsung and LG were using this year's ITU Telecom World conference as a launching plugging point for a few snazzy announcements, but today brings about the unveiling of a Windows Mobile 5-packin' smartphone boasting LG's Chocolate touch, built-in WiMax, a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, two-megapixel camera, microSD slot, and Bluetooth. The phone will reportedly also support CDMA and EV-DO, and should be released in South Korea real soon -- unfortunately, there's "no word" on whether this beauty will ever see the light of day on American soil, but one can hope.

Intrepid @ Dec 6th 2006 6:20AM
Yeah.... I 'think' it's a prototype. Production models won't be so 'wonky' and 'smudgy'.

Is it just me or does it look like a WM5 PDA phone not a WM5 smartphone.

Why does CDMA still exist when the rest of the world is using GSM technology? CDMA sucks. Stop making phones for them.

Gurneet Bedi do you have any idea what your talking about? Granted CDMA technology isn't as widespread as GSM is, but it's still a very significant player in the hand held market. Both the United States and South Korea, which I believe is primarily CDMA, are still heavily reliant on CDMA. In summary, it basically offers the better voice quality plain and simple. I will never go back to AT&T after switching to Verizon.
Gurneet Bedi @ Dec 6th 2006 2:46AM
You just proved my point. US and South Korea should get with the rest of the world, that way we could have seamless wireless capabilities. Great for business travelers who frequent other countries and can just "hop" on other GSM carriers. CDMA is still in use only because we built so many frickin towers and we don't feel like changing technology and fitting in with the rest of the world, which is, um... as far as cell phone technology goes, far far far more advanced. We're still hooked on MP3 playing cell phones while the Japans and Chinas are talking about TV. Oh, btw, I don't know what I'm talking about.

Whenever I see a post about an interesting looking smartphone, the words "Windows Mobile" immediately crush any interest I had.
Shredsled @ Dec 6th 2006 1:43AM
It's not the sleekest looking phone. That's for sure.
strider_mt2k @ Dec 6th 2006 7:23AM
Please, next time you want to impress folks with a product do not have it handled prior to shooting by "Edward Vaseline Hands".
It looks interesting, but the shmutz is offputting.
