Rogers gets Treo 680
Hey, Canada: it looks like Cingular was just the first stop on a comprehensive North American tour for Palm's new entry-level Treo 680, and your own Rogers is next. In fact, if you head on over to Rogers' website as we speak, you'll find it listed for $300 CDN on a three-year contract after rebates. Yes, that's right, we said "three-year contract," so we'd like to caution would-be owners that there's very little chance they're going to want the same phone a full 36 months from now -- especially seeing how Rogers is only offering the plain-vanilla Graphite variety.[Thanks, Darien]

Just b/c your contract is a 3-year term doesn't mean you have to keep the same phone for that amount of time...I believe Rogers allows a hardware upgrade every 12 months.
no kidding. its tough enough for me to live with the same phone for 1 year.. let alone 2, but 3 is freakin' rediculous!! Just spend the few extra bens and avoid the contract.
What the heck? 40 yr interest-only mortgages, 96-month car loans, 5-year auto leasing, and now three-year cell phone contracts. In our 'no money down society,' long-term commitments solve short term needs (read: impuse buys.)
Remember that old philosophy about 'if you don't have the money, don't buy it?!?'
as a canadian i gotta say that the 3yr contract might be the stupidest idea of all...i've never had a 3yr contract and i have no idea why ppl sign them, especially given that only a year ago the hardware credit was the same on a 2yr as it is now on a 3yr...what a joke, post 2 is right, spend the bens (or in our case 'lizes and avoid the lockup
3 Canadian years is like 2 American...nothing new here.
"Just b/c your contract is a 3-year term doesn't mean you have to keep the same phone for that amount of time...I believe Rogers allows a hardware upgrade every 12 months"
You're right, it is every 12 months that you can do an upgrade on your phone (but you have to re-sign for a number of years)
I totally agree with all the above statements that the 3-year is highway robery. Unfortunatly with Canadians they would rather pay nothing up-front then $59.99 and have it for 2 years.
Thanks Engadget for posting my article :)
If you have an expensive plan, you can upgrade more frequently. Some customer's can upgrade every 30 days if they wanted to. They call those customers "high value customers".
