Logitech's Wireless DJ Music System reviewed
While the portable (and semi-portable) boombox market has grown out of control, the sound quality you receive from these mini systems can't exactly match up with the larger, more powerful, and more robust sound systems more suited for home theaters or living rooms. Although a dedicated HTPC can pipe digital audio directly into a receiver without too much fuss, the rest of us need a clean, wireless solution to that dilemma. Enter Logitech's Wireless DJ Music System, a remote-controlled, Bluetooth-based system that BlueTomorrow praises as "simple to install," easy to use, and as intuitive as anyone could hope for. Reviewers were stunned at the sleekness and stylishness of the black / silver remote, and found that the button layout, LCD screen, and overall functionality were all "top notch." Additionally, they found the system incredibly simple to set up, claiming that wireless connections were set and ready to rock "within seconds." While piping audio from internet radio streams, iTunes / MusicMatch playlists, and using the included StreamPoint software, the crew declared its operations seamless from 100 feet away. The only digs came from the inability to search from the remote, no loop scrolling, and the apparent inoperability with Macs. Overall, however, the system was deemed a glorious success, and was said to be an excellent value for those looking to channel their audio to that svelte home stereo for just $250.

I got this from My Wishlist promo from American Express for $75. I guess I'm happy I got one as I was sorta wondering if it was worth the money.
I was hoping to land this beauty on the MyWishlist promo and was not successful. I tried at all 3 different times and nada. Josh..I give u $100 for it ;-)
This looks like that fake iPhone I saw on here a while ago..
I'm so mad I had two tests and a presentation during the wishlist today... missed it by 10 minutes :(
Congrats Josh!
"BlueTomorrow praises as 'simple to install,' easy to use, and as intuitive as anyone could hope for." ... "Additionally, they found the system incredibly simple to set up" ..."the crew declared its operations seamless from 100 feet away."
So how easy is this thing to set up and use? Your article makes it very unclear.
I can't win a wishlist no matter how hard I try anyways
Admittedly, the remote looks nice. It would be even nicer of the beauty was more than skin-deep.
Specifically:
- no digital out? At $250? Excuse me?
- not Mac compatible? What?!
At least the Mac issue can be resolved via an update, but the absence of a digital out is plain nuts. It will result in a lot of "Cool remote you have there, shame the sound blows" conversations. Or, to be more clear: Logitech is loosing a boatload of sales to people who care about sound-quality, including me, all for excluding hardware for about ¢75.
I hate reviews that use nothing but stock photos. It always makes me wonder whether they really had the product available to test.
Hi...
Just want to say I bought this item, then returned it. Fantastic item if/when it worked. Good sound quality, nice user interface, really slick design.
But before you buy, check out logitech's chat pages. A LOT of people are having problems installing it. I couldn't get it to work with itunes. It doesn't work with itunes 7 (yet, though apparently there's a patch coming out). So I downgraded to itunes 6, and it still didn't work.
Spent 4 hours trying all sorts of different things re: installation. At the end of the day, I returned it.
Once they get this to synch properly, it's going to be killer. For now, save your money.
Hmmm...$250 and no digital outputs? I like the design of the remote, but for that price, I would rather get a slimbox which at least has been awarded for their amazing D/A converter and it has digital outs. Oh, and it runs on Mac, Win, and Linux. However, the slimbox does not come with such a sexy remote as this....
I suppose it depends on what you care most about, sound quality or sexy remote?
I tested and reviewed one for another website. Worked pretty well for me hooked up to a WinXP system
@BadBeaver: Don't count on Mac support anytime soon, if ever. Logitech rarely supports OS X when it comes to software. My PR contacts there gave no indication that OS X support is in the works at all.
A software update posted a couple of weeks ago fixed the iTunes 7 issues, and an update posted today adds the ability to efficiently jump into long lists (with an A-to-Z menu).
@sammyd: Correct, the slimbox would be a better choice in terms of quality.
I was told, Keyspan is coming out with a USB version of its TuneView remote (see "coming soon" link to the right, here http://www.keyspan.com/products/tvi200c/ ) which can be used with Macs & WinPCs to control iTunes (and as far as I understand iTunes only), including streaming to an AirPort Express unit. Honestly, the remote is not *cough* half as sexy as the Logitech. Yet, should it be priced at $179 like the iPod version it will be a much better deal, assuming you already have AirTunes installed and are despreate for a dedicated remote.
Man, just combine this with the Harmony 880 or 1000 and it would be the perfect all-in-one remote!
I would like to believe that this is a good product. After having several different music server products, none of them worked very well. Doing a test install is fine, but the real test is how well it works with a libary of 10,000 songs.
Also, sound quality may be suspect. I read in a blog somewhere that someone hooked up this system and was hearing pc system sounds through his stereo. So it seems that this product feeds off the audio output of a pc and then converts that analog signal to blue tooth and is then decoded again at the remote receiver. Hmmmmm? I can't believe that is good for overall audio quality.
My roommate has his system sounds going to his 5.1 receiver. Just when you think you're getting a peaceful sleep, that damned squeaking door of AIM ruins it!
I got this in October and have been really happy with it.

I'm a bit surprised this hasn't gotten more attention before now. Mine has worked flawlessly and it's jumping an entire floor. There's a setting that instead of drawing from iTunes you can say from your "music folders or files" I forget which but I default to that and it worked great from iTunes. I'm now using a Zune and didn't have to change that setting. I haven't done an update yet but guess I should from reading above comments. But like I said its worked fine since the initial install. It was also much easier to install than my Harmony 890 remote!
