For all of those people out there who didn't manage to grab a Wii at launch -- and probably won't be able to until next year -- there comes a moderate form of compensation in seeing what crazy Wii-themed mods people who did have come up with. The latest to pop up is one that retro-loving Nintendo fans will surely appreciate: a fully functional Wiimote Power Glove, complete with working finger buttons. The burst of nostalgia at seeing the Wii-glove in action is definitely enough to last us until the next Wii shipment, although we can't quite shake the nagging concern that this guy must have spent a whole lot of time not playing his Wii in order to create it.
Wow this power glove is amazing! It makes time go faster, cleans the air, and helps you find true love:
"The occasion where you connect with [nunchiyaku], the problem which the cord/code feels somewhat than the usual use time shortly is the cover in love and the air being agreeable."
Actually he demonstrates two buttons working, the thumb (A) and the middle finger (B). For many games, that's enough, but I would personally want to modify the D-Pad or something as well, so that it could be controlled with one hand. That would probably be enough for Zelda, as 1,2,+,-, and Home could all be pressed by the other hand (which is holding the nunchaku). It may not be entirely practical, but it looks fun. I might just construct one and see how effective it is.
From what I can tell, he just has tact switches on a band that is connected to the rigid spine on the top of the glove, so it wouldn't be too hard to do. I sadly never owned a Power Glove, though, so :(.
There was a whole screen where he demonstrated 2 buttons. You had to press A and B at the same time to get past the screen. (Some kind of weird button tutorial?)
Well, it's actually resting at a slight angle while it's in the glove, see? Is that how the glove conquers the problem? Or can't the wii be callibrated to respond to the angle of the remote differently?
I wish people would stop making the assumption that Wiis are hard to get a hold of. They ain't PS3's. I picked up a Wii last week at my local Target. They had 4 in stock at the time. they are out there if you do a little leg work. But such things don't sound smart, snappy, and cool so of course which of course has to be the trademark for an Engadget post. Whatever.
Talk about uncomfortable. Looks like cheap plastic, also that would get tiresome holding your arm out that long. Not to mention the coming of carpotunnel using that thumb like that. I know I wouldn't want to be caught dead, wearing that.
That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Pretty impractical also when you consider you have to hold your arm out in front of you like a zombie when you need to aim at the screen like in the video. Also for a game like Zelda it would probably be most comfortable to play the game with your hand resting in your lap...think about how it would look when he tries to swing the sword...he'll have to close the blinds when he wants to play or it may look like something else to the neighbors and they'll call the cops on him.
On a positive note im glad he achieved his goal of making a WiiGlove.
To the guy who asserts that the Wii is not impossible to find...LIAR!!!! LI-AR!!!! At least around here. Wiis are as easy to find as total peace and harmony between all peoples. I have officially given up trying to find one...by next December they will be down to $179 and will be sitting on the store shelves.
"by next December they will be down to $179 and will be sitting on the store shelves."
I think not, Nintendo has no reason whatsoever to lower it's prices so soon when it's allready turning a profit on the console and it's competitors machines cost twice as much. (add $100 dollars just to go online with any 360 you buy for the adapter)We may see a slight drop in price but definitely nothing that drastic. By then well prolly have some 20-30 dollar games to choose from though :)
Is it just me or is that little green symbol toward the back of the glove the alien symbol from the 80's TV series "V"? Still a cool mod either way, though the extra nostalga if I'm right bumps it up a notch!
"...we can't quite shake the nagging concern that this guy must have spent a whole lot of time not playing his Wii in order to create it."
The crappy selection of launch games probably had as much to do with his spending a whole lot of time not playing his Wii. Since I got mine, I've certainly had no problem finding other things to do, though I must say that I haven't yet turned to arts and crafts like this guy did. He must not have a 360...
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
coolest ever
oh wow, that's too cool.
Now... Why didn't we get that awesome game too?
Metroid Prime 3 anyone?
"I love the power glove... it's so bad."
well, someone had to say it
Wow that looks retarded.
Exposed ground bus = MAXIMUM GAMING POWER
(Get some lock washers on those nuts.)
I wonder if people will find a way for the glove to slip off and smash their TV?
lol...i was thinking the same thing...if another little boy gets hit with a wiimote...u can say he got bitchslap by MJ
only one button appears to work - all it looks like is a glove with a wiimote attached and just one modified button.
what is this? a first person shooter or some sort
Dudes cat doesn't seem so impressed.
Hahaha the cat wants out!

Well I think it looks like a Goa'uld wrist device.

A is the thumb, B are his other fingers.
wouldn't the orientation of the wiimote in the glove cause problems? it is not the same direction as it would be in one's hand.
Well, it's actually resting at a slight angle while it's in the glove, see? Is that how the glove conquers the problem? Or can't the wii be callibrated to respond to the angle of the remote differently?

It'd be a pain to keep your fingers stretched all the time.
gay as hell

gwhahahah!

Fred Savage stars in "The Wiizard"

You must have the mental capacity of a brick to find that game even remotely entertaining.
Well the game seem to me like a new version of the NES duck hunt game
I have like a case of brand new powergloves... anyone want em? johnjrich@aol.com

Oh...my...goodness. I hope that manufacturers take note of this and actually make one.
