HTC Vox (S710) smartphone revealed
Deets were slim when we first got wind of this HTC Vox phone, a purported GSM counterpart to the HTC Libra, but now The Boy Genius Report has managed to track down some more juicy details, including the first "live" pic of the phone. As rumored, the Vox -- officially titled the S710 -- goes with a messaging-friendly setup, running Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone instead of the Pocket PC featured by some of its QWERTY-sliding companions in the HTC lineup. Contrary to initial reports, the phone is supposed to feature 128MB of ROM and 64MB of RAM, and with a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g WiFi, a 2 megapixel camera and a microSD slot, the phone is by no means a total slacker on specs. Of course, the most interesting part of the device is that numeric keypad on the face of the phone, with a semi-automatic sliding QWERTY keyboard tucked behind, but at 0.7-inches thick, it looks like HTC managed to keep things relatively slim, despite the extra keys. What's still up in the air is whether or not the phone will sport 3G data -- the spec sheets list quad-band EDGE as the tops, but that tacked-on smartphone screen up above reads "UMTS operator," so at least there's hope.

I'm calling BS on this one, or at least the photoshop job on the screen, look at the corners of the screen compared to the corners of the bezel, just a thought.... FIRST POST =)
What if they just photoshoped the screen on so it looked more lively?
Yeah, Tom's correct. The display is superimposed and they didn't even take the time to make sure their "UMTS" matched their EDGE specs.
I'm also calling BS on this, but for a different reason. Supposedly this phone runs Windows Smartphone, not PocketPC, so that means no touch screen, correct? Where is the directional pad? Without a touch screen, there doesn't seem to be any way to scroll around and select anything with it.
Oh yeah, thats a fake one
The whole thing is paradoxical... if not Smartphone, then where are the Windows and "OK" keys? If not Pocket PC then where is the D-Pad? Clearly the screen is superimposed but I think that's because it was released originally with the Pocket PC interface, people noticed, and they fixed it... but who is "they" - where did this image come from?
Photoshopped, sure thats what a lot of manufacturers do when they dont have a real screen shot ready. In regards to diretional pad look at the keyboard there are 4 arrows, up/down/left/right. Even look at the HTC LIbra the CDMA version of this and you wont find a hardware directional pad...just my .2 cents
I'm calling "Shenanigans!"
In regards to diretional pad look at the keyboard there are 4 arrows, up/down/left/right but how do you navigate when the phone is closed? Both the photos libra and Vox are a bit blurry. We should see this in person at CES anyone else in vegas w/o Jan 8th? Crossbow full scale unveiled as well!
Yeah, they could have at least tried to make the screen display image fit inside the shape of the screen on the phone. That's not even a decent photoshop.
How would you navigate the phone when closed? Looks pretty darn nice, except that cruddy photoshop job. Heck, at least use a decent resolution image of WinMo.
It's a bad BS job. You can't even use a smartphone without a d-pad of some sort.
when the freak are they gonna start putting at least 1 gb of memory in these things? For the past 4 years it's been 128 mn, 128, 128. I'm getting sick of it! And no, the life drive doesn't count. I'm talking about an 8525 esk smartphone running pocketpc edition with at least a gig in there and the full screen for watching movies.
worst photoshop ever!
that's funny.. i already have an S710 ... i've had it for like 2 years... it's got EDGE and QVGA screen and Memory Stick expansion and... it's great!
Your comments: ya i would love the libra, but no more infos been let out about it, so
im losing my love for it, plus the shoots of it made it appear to have
PocketPC edition a must have, sadly probly only smartphone :-( well
there is still the XV 6700, only needs a sec. gen. w/wi-fi b/g &
EV-DO Rev. A, then no doubt i would choose it no matter what the cost
There IS a d-pad.
Check the H B N M keys and there it is!
I guess you tap Fn twice to use the white labels and Fn a third time to toggle back to using it as a QWERTY. I find that annoying on my 6700, and having to do that sort of thing to navigate the screen seems like it would suck. Won't know till I try it, though!
im holding off on buying my Blackjack for this. Who thinks it's a good idea?
