Is this the iTV remote? Please, God, no
So, the word on the street is that the monochrome-display sportin' Ruwido VEXO remote depicted above is a dead ringer for Apple's upcoming iTV remote. While we're all about minimalism, this strange combination of sexy scroll wheel and ugly, complicated monochrome display just really isn't doing it for us. And we know you're taking notes, Apple -- say it ain't so! Peep another pic of the not-an-iTV-remote after the break.

Hi there! You're an idiot. iTV hasn't even been released yet.
Cheers,
Tzaar
dejuid00 @ Dec 15th 2006 12:46PM
Wow. I actually said *blugh* out loud.
Tech^Cellfish @ Dec 15th 2006 12:51PM
No Apple, don't do a poor bang olufsen lookalike
andy @ Dec 15th 2006 12:52PM
as apple already stated in the keynote. 'iTV uses the existing apple remote" why even report on this, do your research, you are a gadget blog after all!!!!
GJP303 @ Dec 15th 2006 5:46PM
My idea is like one in a million but Apple might change the Apple remote.
james @ Dec 15th 2006 12:56PM
Hell this should be the iPhone.
GJP303 @ Dec 15th 2006 5:39PM
if it was than only you and 2 other people would buy it. Is it in color? no. Is it small? no. You see where im going. Perfect in the 1980's but, as we know, its 2006.
Revels @ Dec 15th 2006 12:58PM
Didn't Steve say it would be controlled with the Apple Remote?
The Wiimote would be awesome for this.
Fat Joe @ Dec 15th 2006 1:05PM
I don't know why ITV haven't sued apple yet.
Ross @ Dec 15th 2006 1:02PM
It kind of reminds me of an old Intellivision controller. And not in a good way.
Kraig @ Dec 15th 2006 1:25PM
Apple hasn't been sued over iTV because that isn't the final name of the product yet. Jobs even said that when it was introduced.
And no way is that the iTV remote. For starters, it's black, and the iTV is white. You know Apple and colors. Plus, as others have stated, the remote will be the same as the existing Apple Remote.
james @ Dec 15th 2006 1:09PM
why is every site bashing this design? I think its very elegant. Would look great sitting on a table. Not everyone wants something with a million oversized buttons and a cluttered color screen. I agree, the design more bang and olufsen than apple. And i dont think apple should be producing this type of design. But i love it.
Jerry @ Dec 15th 2006 4:39PM
I'm not bashing, but I don't think it is a practical design. It will looks nice on your coffee table, but will be hard to use. When watching in the dark, or just looking at the screen, I'd prefer a remote with raised buttons that I can feel.
Joey S. @ Dec 15th 2006 1:09PM
Ewwww. Looks like something that would come with a DellTV.
cristian f. @ Dec 15th 2006 1:20PM
That's no Apple material ._.
Apple's white xD, and the black should b e brighter ._.
That desnt remind anybody to apple
Gordy @ Dec 15th 2006 1:24PM
I had a remote like that years ago. It was touch screen and kinda cool...at the time.
Ditto to whover said "shame on you engadget!" And to think I voted for you this morning.
Jason @ Dec 15th 2006 1:32PM
If the screen weren't so "Dollar Store" it'd be a lot nicer.
Mike @ Dec 15th 2006 1:43PM
As much as I don't like Apple, even I do not believe that they would use something so ugly.
therpham @ Dec 15th 2006 1:46PM
Did I accidentally click onto Engadget 1991 today?
Colin @ Dec 15th 2006 1:49PM
I voted for Lifehacker as I expect the good hacks to come from the users not the blogger.....Engadget, I expect forethought...none on this one.
tofu @ Dec 15th 2006 1:51PM
if the screen was backlit in kinda a whiteish color, i'd like it.
Rick Lyon @ Dec 15th 2006 2:15PM
I don't mind the remote except I think it's long for no reason and the LCD screen needs to be better spaced and better designed. The black with silver minimalistic approach is fine by me.
ernest leitch @ Dec 15th 2006 2:41PM
I'm still putting my money on the idea that the iTV remote will look like the standard apple remote.
pudders @ Dec 15th 2006 3:22PM
Who has time to watch TV?
jeff Foster @ Dec 15th 2006 3:26PM
i kinda doubt this would ever get the approval nod from the big Steve.
really.
zuricher @ Dec 15th 2006 3:32PM
well it could be a lot worse. actually i kinda like the design. and it looks a whole lot better than the monster remote mentioned earlier today (!)
John @ Dec 15th 2006 4:01PM
Haha! That's so NOT-Apple it's not even funny. No way...
Whatsizface @ Dec 15th 2006 5:52PM
What a piece of crap!
With most remotes, once you learn the positions of the buttons, you never have to look at them!
With this slab of plastic dog poo, you're FORCED to look at it every time!
Bah!
Greg Colker @ Dec 15th 2006 5:56PM
It's not apple. The orientation of the "play/pause" "stop" and other buttons are not the same as EVERY other apple device. (iPods, current remote, etc.) This is NOT Apple.
Mike @ Dec 15th 2006 8:20PM
Please. Apple is known for making things 15% smaller than you thought possible, 25% brighter, and 200% cooler.
You think they'd have a monochrome LCD display on _anything_?
Matt @ Dec 16th 2006 11:49PM
I think i'd bet real money that there's no way in hell that this trash looks anything like what the iTV remote is going to look like.
Chris @ Dec 20th 2006 8:28AM
I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
zorg @ Jan 16th 2007 10:26AM
Works for me as iTV remote. If it's bright enough, I'll also use it as a flashlight to find the other remotes.
Besides, what I really need is a GOOD mouse replacement that doesn't need a flat surface. If this thing has a good gyro built in, I'm there.
