"Early and often" isn't quite the mantra you want when it comes to recalls (early is enough, thanks), but it looks like 200,000 Japanese DS and DS Lite adapter units is what's for dinner at Nintendo today. We don't have much more info than that -- sorry, we wish we could tell you if you were at any kind of risk or something -- but given N's kind of scary dominance in portable gaming, we'd imagine 200k units is a drop in the bucket, so the numbers are probably on your side. Stay tuned for a US announcement soon, we imagine it's likely to follow.

Does that include Japanese DS Lite Charger's from April/May?
daz @ Dec 15th 2006 7:02AM
See, once again, Ninty makes a mess, and nobody cares, whack Sonys name at the top and watch every spotty geek lay into them. To be honest, its getting quite funny now
Blue @ Dec 15th 2006 10:16AM
Yeah Nintendo's sure made a mess, it infuriates me that my DSLite doesn't work anymore! Oh wait it does. In fact so does pretty much everyone's, it seems. What are we supposed to be caring about, exactly, the fact that there's a recall (of the japanese AC adapters for an unspecified reason)? If they were breaking or catching fire of course we would care.
Drew @ Dec 15th 2006 4:41PM
Hmm..I bought a DS phat at launch, and my AC adaptor makes a whining-screeching pitch noise, and I can't stand it, so my DS is rarely charged. I wonder if that's what happened in Japan?
Mew @ Dec 16th 2006 12:38AM
O_O I'm probably getting a DS Lite for Christmas... I hope I'm not in danger of my charger starting a fire, because I have pet birds and fire is bad for them.
