The PlayStation 3 charity auction -- win a 20GB PS3!

Alright everybody, listen up and listen good. We know some (most) of you still haven't gotten your PS3 for yourself or your family, and you may be scrambling to get one before Christmas. Well, guess what, we have a 20GB PlayStation 3 we're auctioning off for charity, thanks to our old pals at BoxWave. Here's what you need to know.

• Real bids only people, this is for charity!
• Five day auction, no reserve. Where else are you gonna snag a PS3 on Christmas eve?
  
• Payment will go directly to Save Darfur, and will be expected to be made within two days of the auction's close.
  
• Since most shippers are closed on Christmas eve and Christmas day, we cannot guarantee overnight shipment to you for Christmas day. But you'll have secured the PS3, and we'll overnight it to you immediately thereafter. Hell, we'll even pay shipping.

100% deductible and 100% of the proceeds go to Save Darfur, so, what do you say? Let the bidding begin!

Looking at the other completed PS3 auctions on eBay makes me wonder if this was really the best way to entice people to donate money. Even the scalpers are barely making their money back.

Well, we're already at over $500, so that's better than nothing! We were going to do a raffle, but that requires state permits for every state in the union we wanted to open it to, so you can imagine why we did eBay instead!

hehe im winning the auction, im not doing it for the ps3 (ok maybee a lil) but for darfur) also ryan you need to put a pic in there of the ps3 with the words "engadget" on a piece of paper also a reciept somehow. not that i need proof, but ebay might take it down

FYI, it's not "100% deductible," since the winner will be receiving an item of tangible value. At best, only the amount over $500 is a donation that's tax deductible, as the person donating the PS3 will be able to take a $500 deduction. You may want to clarify the post. 100% goes to Save Darfur, but it's not 100% deductible.

Engadget, you need to update this so people are aware... Jake is right, any donation that results in receipt of goods/services of over $75 in value is only deductable for the difference of the amount given and the value received.

If the winner tries to deduct the $500 that the PS3 is worth, he'll potentially be audited and get in trouble for tax evasion.

This concierge company is giving away a PS3 and a Nintendo Wii and an iPod Nano. I think someone already one the Nano, but the PS3 and Wii are up for grabs.

I personally think Engadget are letting us UK readers down. I mean yes it might cost a little more to ship it here but you're more likely to get some seriously high bids from us Brits due to two facts.

1 - We don't have the PS3 over here yet
2 - The exchange rate is currently about $2 = £1
