The evolution of input devices for gaming consoles has certainly been interesting to follow: from Atari's paddles and joysticks to Nintendo's classic NES controller to the modern million-button joypads which delight children and confuse adults, developers are forever seeking ways to increase both the functionality and ergonomics of these peripherals. Well even though today's DualShock and Xbox gamepads are widely praised for their comfort and control, PC gamers still seem to prefer the old keyboard and mouse combo for maximum versatility and fragability (is that even a word?). Fully aware that there will always be folks who enjoy aiming their weapons with a mouse instead of an analog stick, SplitFish -- of
MotionFX and
DualFX fame -- has just released a new product that attempts to bring PC-style input to Sony's PlayStation 2. The EdgeFX is a two-part system composed of a rumble mouse sporting the standard geometrical buttons and a nunchuck-like wired attachment that contains a D-pad and single thumbstick. Probably the main appeal of this innovative controller is a dedicated "focus" button which adjusts mouse sensitivity on the fly so that you can aim with precision and still swing around wildly when you're surveying the field of play. Available immediately from GameStop for $70, the EdgeFX only supports PS2 for the time being, but SplitFish claims that a PS3 version is in the works and even 360 may "get in the game" if there's adequate interest.

thats pretty cool, i cant wait for the ps3 version. Ive always had much better aim the the mouse
Might have to look into this....looks nice.
not enough mouse pad space
button layout is odd, doesnt look very comfortable.
looks like a lotta wires
considering PS2 controllers work on the ps3 (for ps3 games) via existing USB adapters, I don't see why this wouldn't work with the PS3.
rightie-centric much?
Just checked QVC AND HSN. Both have PS3 20GB bundles available for about $720.
That's plenty if mouse room, you don't need a foot of mouse-pad space, and hopefully, this will become mainstream if this isn't a gimmick.
"a PS3 version is in the works"
Isn't Sixaxis supposed to do the same exact thing? Since PS3 uses bluetooth, then any bluetooth (in theroy) should work with a PS3 console. Has anyone tried this on the PS3 or Wii?
5 years too late M***** F****** .....get with the program consoles
I can't wait to see the PS3 version. Playing FPS like R:FoM will be alot more interesting with a mouse. I expect people's accuracy to increase quite a bit... mine included. :)
I hope the PS3 version comes out soon.
Believe it or not, I've been gaming on my PC with a setup similar to that of this controller for months. I plug a modded X-Box controller S in, only use the analog, trigger, D-pad, start and back buttons on the left side and then use the mouse for everything else. It's actually a pretty good way to game, IMO - you get the accuracy of mouse aiming with the best parts of a gamepad.
SplitFish does get props for pushing the envelope. But innovative? Hum. Talk to me and I’ll show you some stuff (with the appropriate NDA of course). I even have a mouse centric PS2/3 controller in the works with look/aim pc precession with no mouse pad needed!
For years this has been the biggest pain in the rear for FPS fans that play on PCs then try to apply their deadly accurate art to consoles. This must be addressed if consoles are to be the future of FPS gaming. So don’t fret FPS console fans. Frank Black is on the way. I don’t fool around ;^)...

Awesome. This is a must for ANY FPS.
I absolutely HATE having to use a lame-controller for console shooters like Halo.
Please, please please make this for the 360. It's one of those things that keeps me from seriously considering getting a console in the first place.
How's that ego treatin' ya Frankie?
