As if the Burj Al-Arab (and
Time Residences) in
Dubai wasn't unique enough, Omniyat Properties is getting set to construct a 23-story luxury tower inspired by none other than Apple's
iPod. Slated to be built in Business Bay, the "iPad residential tower" is scheduled to house more than 200 units, and was "designed by Hong Kong-based architects James Law Cybertecture International." The high-rise will sit atop a "docking station angled at six degrees," which should have iPod fanboys flying over in droves just to snap pictures. While no preliminary sketches have surfaced quite yet, we'll be sure to keep an eye out for future development (ahem) of the world's largest iPod, and you can go ahead and pencil in "sometime in 2009" as your "must-take" vacation.

An "iPod" building...I hope it won't have elevator music in there.

What happens if they get sued by Apple..will they have to tear down the building? :)
Brian @ Dec 24th 2006 11:07PM
No, they'll just put an Apple Store in the lobby.

You're going to tell me Steven P. Jobs, the marketing genius is not behind this in some way? ;-)

Those crazy Dubainers. Maybe they'll get a Zune Tower or a Sansa Stadium too?
PJK @ Dec 22nd 2006 11:29AM
Dubai is filled with some of the most hideous work practices I've ever seen. They construct buildings like this with virtual slave labour from India and then populate it with indentured Chinese workers. Its like a new Egyptian empire building monuments on the backs of slavery.
skerpijoen @ Dec 22nd 2006 11:57AM
Heh - there's always someone that brings up slave labor and Dubai in the same comment.
Liqwid @ Dec 22nd 2006 12:37PM

I was just over in Dubai a few weeks ago. Holy shit, it's a place with architecture you wouldn't believe. This doesn't surprise me, although I think that this building will still look like crap. Dubai is a nice vacation spot if you don't mind thinking out of the box.
yas @ Dec 28th 2006 5:20PM
i saw the model at the cityscape show in Dubai nov 2006 and i have to say it did look funky
jigs @ Jan 1st 2007 9:37PM
no offense but thats really dorky.

I think the worry is that in 10 years time this building could be as relevant as a set of flats shaped like a Sony Discman. Shortsighted I reckon..
