Hmmmm...
Here's a strange link that showed up in google today when I searched for Verizon XV6800....
http://www.thepocketsolution.com/verizon_xv6800_accessories.html

I Like the black better than the silver, but that looks like another phone... My sources tell me still march 15... possibly avalible online march 7
Nice find on the link! I wonder if we could get some info from that company on a release date? Is 5/15 confirmed? Seems early to sell accesories if 5/15 is the release date. It sucks waiting. My ne2 has been up for a month now...
I am in the market for a new phone this month and was going to get the XV6700. However after reading this I think I may wait a couple months for the 6800. I have a couple questions:
1. The review says there is a thumbwheel. Will it still have a touchscreen/stylus?
2. Is there any idea what it might sell for? Right now the 6700 sells for $399 Do you think the price will be the same or will they raise it?
3. Will it be slimmer or lighter than the 6700?
@Tivoking - I hear you on that. My ne2's been up since 12/5. I've been dying for the xv6700 and its capabilities since it originally came out and haven't been able to get it because of my contract. Now my contract is over and I could pick one up but instead I'm just sitting here waiting for the Tytn to come out instead.
@Greg - Yes the device has a thumbwheel and it also still uses the touchscreen/stylus. The thumbwheel is used to help with navigating menus and viewing web pages with one hand. The device is probably going to be the same size as the 6700 minus the antenna nub a the top (since the Cingular version of the device is that way), I don't know about the weight though.
Check out the following video which includes a look at how the thumbwheel functions and also shows some size comparisons with other phones.

Any idea what the cost will be? I'll wait if it's going to be similair to what it is now, but I don't want to pay more than $300 after rebate.
I was doing a search online and it appears that this was released in Europe last year. Is that the case or am I missing something? If so, why does it take so long for us to get it in the US? I also read another article which listed a price of $700(ish). Is that accurate?
I called a few verizon stores today in MI and finally found someone that seemed to know about the phone at one of their authorized stores. He says that it's supposed to come out in the next 2 months and the price will probably be in the upper $400's. I'm keeping my fingers crossed
@50....that doesn't mean much....a lg vx9900,lg vx8500 ect... recharge was on amazon months before it was released so all we know from that is it is going to be released and that the phone companies aren't going to tunt us as "much" about it coming out or not....
A UTStarcom techie said the xv6800 would not be released until the end of this year or even next. I found that hard to believe. There is no way Verizon is going to continuing supporting the xv6700 for another year. Can anyone else give me some information on this subject?
Neil
I remember reading someplace that tytn wasn't at CES this year. If that's the case, then it probably means that they're behind schedule so perhaps your info is right. I wish we knew for sure. I may decide to bite the bullet in a few weeks and get the 6700.
It is True the Tytn or Titan was not at CES.
but not releasing the phone for another year I dout. the HTC Rep that I spoke with at CES has a PPC6700 and he is very excited to see the 6800 and gave a window of Q1 of this year. One Reason that VZW would Delay the launch because they have too many 6700 still in stock. an associate of mine said that when the 6700 came out they still had a lot of the 6600 in stock and they could not sell the 6700 till the 6600 are gone or if the customer asked for it and would walk if they did not get the 6700.
PPC-6700, great PDA average cell phone. Without any tweaks the PDA operates well. After a few modifications though I wouldn't trade it for many of the PDAS. You can use a headset to get around the quite phone.
#13. The 6700 is faster in many ways yet it has a longer talk time!

I was wondering if you need to purchase the verizon data plans to be able to use the wi-fi service on this phone? I really want a phone with wi-fi and I don't feel like spending $40 a month extra for ev-do service. Thanks
Talked with a sprint and kept getting .03 per kb answer even when using personal WiFi connection. Talked to a rep in the store he said it wouldn't charge for WiFi if you are not using Sprint network. Doesn't help Verizon folks though since they disable the WiFi on the 6700.
The WiFi is not disabled on the Verizon XV6700!!!! There has been an official ROM update since at leaast August that resolves this issue and also adds voice command like feature. You must train all the commands for it to function.
I just called UTstarcom a few minutes ago and a guy told me it would be released probably within 2 months but something tells me otherwise due to the stock of the 6700
I called Verizon the other day and this phone wasn't shown on their list. They said that they usually see new phones about 3 months ahead of time. If that is true I'm not hopefull that we'll see it this year
On March 16,07 I spoke w/ a rep. from UT-
Starcom about the xv6800. Like many of
you I have read all the comments & ect...
on the subject. I have a hp-ipaq pc 4155 and a LG 8100 cell ph. I have been looking for such a device that will do both all in one. I may have found it in the 6800. I've learn to do my home work
when making a purchase that will more than
likely be around the $500 range.
The 6800 will Wi-Fi and will be capable to
tether to a laptop. I would explain how this works; but that will be to much info
to put in this letter.
Verizon will not release this info because
they want you to use their internet.
UTStarcom has sent me a email on how this
is done, and you should be able to get that info as well. I can tell you that there are 3 file drivers. Copy these into a directory on your hard drive.
The rep. told me he uses C:/CDMA; and then
you can remove the CD. 2nd, you need to turn on dial-up networking on th 6800; and then follow the procedures in the email. Now if you don't want Verizons
internet serv. you will need to block access to VZW data network so you won't
be charged. I have a router at home and I
use the wi-fi features to gain eccess to the internet. According to this link:
itechnews.net/2007/02/11/verizon-utstarcom-xv6800/ this pda-ph comes with
wm5 not wm6.
I hope this 6800 is worth the wait.
Oh, by the way; KB data transfer using wi-fi @ hm will be charged to your verizon acct.
Starcom # 800-229-1235 or utstarcom.com
Are you kidding me??
"KB data transfer using wi-fi @ hm will be charged to your verizon acct."
Why in the world would they charge you for using wireless internet at home?! or does 'hm' mean something else?
the XV6700 is a great pocket pc, but the phone is a piece of crap. the earpiece AND the speaker volume is NOT LOUD ENOUGH, and is very annoying (to say the least -- given the hefty price tag, it would be nice to have a phone i can actually hear out of).
i've even done one registry hack for the in-call volume and it's still not enough. i hope they fixed that in the XV6800! otherwise, i'll just go to blackberry.
I talked to a verizon rep. and they me told that if you are on wi-fi you will be charged like if making a voice call when using wi-fi. No data transfer kb will charged but you will be just using the minutes on your voice plan!!!!!So watch your voice minutes when on wifi not kb transfer downloaded!!!!This still sucks!!!
I have the XV6700 with no data plan. I use the wifi all the time and there is no charge and no voice minutes taken off.
Verizon trains their employees to make it difficult for people to avoid using the Verizon network. Just stick to your guns, you can avoid the data charges.
I was actually told by two people that if I used the wifi, I would be charged data fees even if it is my home wifi network. The tech guy finally told me if I don't get a data plan, I will avoid any data charges.
Verizon does this on purpose which I see as an incredibly devious practice.
Ok, this is all getting blown out of proportion, now take the time to think about this all, some reps don't understand exactly what wi-fi is. to a sales rep data is data.. download is a download.. so remember.. wi-fi is free anywhere. if you can access it verizon will not double charge you for it.. now DUN with the phone will be charged..
later,...
The VZW techie
Yes, this is silly, you cannot be charged for using WI-FI from Verizon wireless. Wi-Fi is different than the Cell Phone data network. You have to buy the Cell phone data network and it will work were there is no wi-fi.
I have had a Verizon PDA data plan almost 3 years now, and have a lot of customer care experience. (I'm a needy guy) I don't think the bad advice you are getting is corporate-planned deception. My experience is the "techs" at my local stores have no clue, but the guys on the phone are really very good. Call Verizon sales and ask to talk to a PDA technical support person, for me, they have always been a great knowledgeable resource, and very service oriented.
For me, the local stores have always been some sort of high pressure sales den with people willing to say anything.
One more thing, while I love my expensive, unlimited EVDO data plan, WI-FI, when available, is simply better and faster; I use it whenever it is possible.
So is there any news as to when the XV6800 is coming out? I am about to buy the 6700 but I think it would be better to wait for the 6800. The price of the 6700 will go down i'm sure and if not, i'm sure th 6800 would be better. Any news about release?
I am thinking about switching to a verizon smart phone...and this is definately the one i am waiting for! anyone have any news on when its supposed to come out? Ive checked with the verizon store and the sales people are always clueless about it!
I will be going from a horrible razor to hopefully the xv6800...is it worth waiting for??
i have a the 6700 and i love it. yes sometimes there is a problem, but it as expected with such advanced technology. i love the phone and i refer it to everyone that works in the medical field with me. the calendar and email options are almost life savers. i would def like to try out the 6800. i looks a little sleeker. but overall it is an improvement to an already great phone
I have a xv6700 and liike it, except I get these "eronious mobile ip setup" error messages pretty frequently.... all of the research I have done suggests that this issue is specific to the 6700, I am looking to get the 6800 in hopes of not having this issue, and for all the little improvements.
I am just a little frustrated waiting for this phone to actually be available from verizon... it was released on Sprint recently... any word when we can expect verizon to start selling the 6800?
July 14th is the date given to me from a UTStarcom rep at a recent verizon event. We'll see.
You know...those @#$% at Sprint already have this thing in their hands! Whats up Verizon...I've been waiting for this upgrade since last November. This Treo you sold me is a piece of do do!
My verizon rep checked on this product last week and told me to expect it in August.. I don'w know if this is early august or what but sometime in August. Same for the new samsung, and possibly the 755 treo. VZW seriously needs a new PDA lineup.
BTW, my rep told me that Verizon will not announce to even employees when a new product is coming out until no less than 7 days before the product is shipping. I imagine this is so that customers don't stop purchasing products that are on the shelf when they learn a new product is coming out soon. He heard August from some inside techs that he knows.
I also heard the end of the 3rd quarter which is the end of August.... I've also been waiting for an upgrade. I have the 6600 ouch.... I didn't want the 6700 because I heard the 6800 was coming out. Hopefully it's August!!!!!!!!!!!
Not to be a stickler, but 'the end of the 3rd quarter' is NOT August, but actually September. August would be Mid 3rd Quarter.
Either way, I am running a modified 6700 and I haven't had a SINGLE problem with mine. Removed all the crap that Verizon puts on it and replaced their logo with mine. About $200 worth of software and this thing looks AWESOME, works like a charm, and I can use all of the connectivity features on this bad boy simultaneously.
Personally I'm using a different solution -- ditch Verizon! I already have unlocked GSM Hermes/8525 and RAZR's on order. The 8525 looks great and is highly customizable using the cooked WM6 ROMs out there. The ATT /Cingular network is good enough in my home area and the places I frequent. Even better, I can pop in a Euro sim when I travel there. I had to borrow an unlocked GSM phone my last trip there. Bye-bye Verizon...I hope more do the same to shake up your lethargy.
Verizon is taking wayy to long to bring this phone, if nething, like joe sayd, ima go to AT&T and get the kaiser!!! kaiser is looking GREAT! well well c which one comes out first, and then ill make my decision =D
Anyone have any idea when the Starcom 6800 will come to Alltel? I am trying hard to wait, but...
I know this may sound really stupid, but I've been waiting for a decent Verizon PDA to come out for about 8 months now because I would like one and I have been able to get a new one at discount since that time. Therefore, I am not tied to contract. However, I hesitate to switch carriers because I use about a total of 2600 mins a month (due to friends and family across the country) and about 1500 of these minutes are IN minutes. All but maybe 3 of the people I talk to on a consistent basis are not Verizon customers. That said, I see that there are three semi-decent PDA's coming out on the Verizon board during September and October. The Samsung i760, the UTStarcom XV6800, and the UTStarcom XV5800. Which is really the best choice? I mean, hell... I've waited this long. I want something that's great, not just decent at this point. I understand to get phenomenal, I may have to consider switching providers, but at this point, I need as much help as I can get. Across the board. Anyone able to give me some sound advice? On which to pick if I stick with Big Red and/or which PDA would be the best option if I chose to switch carriers? I'd really appreciate it.
I just emailed my business rep for Verizon regarding the XV6800 and this is the response she received:
The 6800 is currently in our lab. Were hoping to see approval of the device on our network at some point over the next few weeks. After that it will be a few more weeks before the device becomes available for sale as inventory levels are built.
I know that doesn't help too much, but gives a better idea. This was received 9/14/07 around 12:30 p.m. EST
/sigh...
/checks watch
/listens to the crickets
/prepares for another week of broken-treo-with-antenna-falling-out
The XV6800 is a ghost.
