Let's all admit to ourselves that love or hate the iPod, we're pretty damned curious to know what the
iPod building from last week will look like. We still don't know for sure what shape it'll take, but our pals over at
Archpartners, an 3D architecture rendering firm in Boston (that has no affiliation, as far as we know, to the designing firm James Law Cybertecture International), did a little mocking up of what form they think Dubai's latest tower could take. We'd just like to take this chance to remind Omniyat Properties to get it done fast -- you're up
against a dude named Crazy John in the race to build the world's largest monument to consumer electronics nerdom.

Now we're all wondering.. was it designed on a Mac? Do you get a free iPod if you buy an apartment? Will Apple sue?
justdave @ Dec 25th 2006 6:28PM
Off topic....but Eric, what in christs name are you doing on engadget at 6pm on christmas day? Eat and drink man, eat and drink! I think, being called Eric, it's fair to assume you shouldn't be here! Crazy fool.
Jonathan Keim @ Dec 25th 2006 9:08PM
I don't know why you are harping on eric, what the heck are you doing here!?
Eric @ Dec 25th 2006 9:12PM
I celebrate Christmas the Swedish way, aka. celebrate on Christmas Eve.

That is disgusting. What an eyesore, especially when one takes into account the beautiful river and palm trees. The whole thing is just...wrong.
Evan @ Dec 25th 2006 9:35PM
It looks cool but it does look like an eye sore...
Brian @ Dec 25th 2006 8:16PM
Oh gaaawwwwwwwd. (Get it?) Why are these people, with this much cash, so blind? Look at all the things in the world these millions could be spent on... the welfare of these oil producing nations producing religious extremeism, while they believe their suffering is caused by the western world. It's too bad they don't understand the incredible wealth held by their upper 1%... and their desire for indoor ski-ing rinks and iPod monoliths.
Merry Christmas.
Rahul @ Dec 25th 2006 8:29PM
Ugly! I hope Apple sics its lawyers on this one.
kev @ Dec 25th 2006 8:41PM
Nerdom and iPod do not belong in the same article if they're describing the same person/company.
Joshua @ Dec 25th 2006 8:44PM
I agree with Rahul, Apple need to sic their lawyers onto this one, and order the damn building razed to the ground once it is completed. Those that build this place, deserve to lose their money.

This is pathetic on several levels!
1. As cool (or uncool) the iPod is, it is overhyped.
2. The iPod may be a thing of the past.
3. Even if not, additional versions will make the building obsolete.
4. This prototype can't be done right because it's a hybrid of a 4G and 5G iPod. The back is curved like a 5G, but the click wheel and the small screen is like a 4G.
5. Like someone mentioned, this building makes the pond, trees incompatible. It's just wrong.
Regardless, this building should have been part of Weird Al's "White and Nerdy" music video.
tekdroid @ Dec 26th 2006 1:26AM
I hear the apartments lock you out if you try to use another portable to play its music. (i love the attention to detail)
DarkFader @ Dec 26th 2006 6:33AM
yet another thing to ask when going on vacation...
PEZ @ Dec 26th 2006 6:48AM
Why are all these things slanted. Is this the leaning tower of pod or somethin'?
:-D
Zach @ Dec 26th 2006 2:07PM
How big of a hard drive will it have? 10000 teribytes? lol
John Doe @ Dec 27th 2006 2:54PM
OK I own an iPod Photo but OMG that thing is retarded^100.
hsh @ Dec 27th 2006 3:07PM
So does it come with extended warranty? I work at a chain store (as a tech) and I warranty countless Ipods on a weekly basis. They have got to be the biggest overated p.o.s. ever. I hope they buyers get a good home warranty... they'll need it.
