Sony finally launches XL3

Sony launched its XL2 media PC about this time last year, but the XL3 finally brings to the table the high def experience, by way of a built-in ATSC (and NTSC) tuner, CableCARD (i.e. DCT), and uses Core 2 Duo processors, NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GTL graphics, 2GB of RAM, and a surprisingly thin 500GB hard drive. Yours March for $3,300. (Yeah, Sony's XL3 site is down at the time of this writing, so we had to show you the XL2 to refresh your memory.)

I expected a Cell in them instead of an Intel.

The problem with using Cell is Windows does not run on it. Sony does not have the software base in house. It is relying on Microsoft. So, it has to use Intel processors so Windows will run on it. I for one will not buy it since I am not a Microsoft fan. Also, the price is too expensive for most people. This will continue to be a niche product. Sony had a HD-DVR - DHG-HDD250 and 500. I have the 250. It is Linux based and does the DVR functionality well. Too bad they discontinued it. I bought it over a year ago for $499 and it has changed the way I watch TV. I just don't want to put up with Windows in my entertainment center. Hopefully, Apple will come up with something more pleasing. I have a Power Mac G4 and it is too slow for HD.

Apples (pun intended) and Oranges. You are trying to compare a DVR to a Media Center? You fanboys are all the same! I don't want a MS sceen on my TV but if a Mac can do it I am all for it!! WTF? MS is doing it and Aplle is not. Until they are, call Steve Jobs and whine to him about it!
