Eleksen slaps SideShow on a messenger bag
SideShow ain't just for laptops anymore, Eleksen just grabbed a few of its nifty "ElekTex" fabric controls, a 2.5-inch LCD, and some SideShow functionality and pasted it all onto a hip little messenger bag. The SideShow module can communicate with your laptop via Bluetooth or USB, and the unit supports MP3 playback, photo albums, videos and more, beamed straight off your laptop's on-board memory cache. We spotted a non-working prototype of this thing last night, so be sure to check out those pics after the break.

Hopefully you can program it to flash "HELP" when street thugs beat you up and steal your laptop.

Remember in when you could slap a clock on something to make it sell? I guess the lcd has joined the ranks of useless addition.

I want to see a side show/cell phone that docks with my laptop to provide connectivity, syncs selected info, and plays tunes videos, slides shows. Why do I need it to attach to my bag?
Jonathan @ Jan 8th 2007 6:12PM
This just strikes me as a remarkably bad idea. As in, "Look at me, I've got gadgets! Right here! In this bag!"
Then again, this could be a "gift bag," the electronic equivilant of a "kick me" sign you give to your clueless in-laws.

Ok... if I'm understanding correctly, we're supposed to put our laptops in a closed bag and leave them running? And people wonder why laptop batteries are overheating...

Sideshow on my phone makes far more sense than on display to the public on the side of my bag. Looks very cool but in reality, a real bad idea. The MET police would have a field day on these guys after telling repeatedly telling us to keep phones etc out of sight to deter theives, this is kind of like multimedia advertising to attract them!
tim hardy @ Jan 11th 2007 1:20PM
agreed with Jason, why not just carry a big day-glo sign saying nick my laptop, stupid tech!
Jonalex @ Jan 27th 2007 12:47PM
OS X Leopard + Windows Vista Ultimate = Me getting a MacBook so I can use this nifty little bag (when it comes out)

Um, lol. How are people going to get jacked? Not EVERYONE walks or rides the bus/train. If you're just taking it with you driving from point A to point B no ones going to get it!! lol. But i do agree that an LCD on a bag does advertise gadgets inside...Thats why bags need ambient displays that theives couldnt tell apart from regular graphics...

Man am I glad I'm not living where Jonathan, Jason and Tim Hardy are hanging out. In my country you wouldn't be in any such risk, as long as you stay away from the ghetto-areas.

why not make a sideshow wrist watch so we dont have to worry about carrying a messenger bag or for that matter having to place a messenger bag in a place where we could see the little screen. besides some wristwatches already have bluetooth capabilities so why not intergrated caller id text message windows sideshow and blah blah blah.
