HTC Omni specifications unearthed
Hope you haven't forgotten about the elusive HTC Omni, as that self-coined Universal successor now has an (almost complete) lineup of specs to go along with it. The handset will reportedly sport a whopping 4-inch 800 x 480 resolution display, boast a slightly slimmer / lighter enclosure than found on the Universal, and will pack a 400MHz Samsung SC244X processor, Qualcomm MSM 7200 chip, GSM / GPRS / EDGE / UMTS / HSDPA compatibility, 128MB of RAM, full QWERTY keyboard, 802.11b/g, and Bluetooth 2.0. Unfortunately, one of the most anticipated details -- whether or not it'll boast VGA out -- remains unconfirmed, but at least we've got enough hard deets to assure us that this mobile should elicit quite a few grins when finally hits the streets.[Thanks, Led]

Does anyone have the weight and size specs?
bluemonq @ Jan 8th 2007 1:58PM
Weight: jacket pocket-stretching
Size: you'll look like a dork holding this up to your head if the battery on your Bluetooth headset dies
Honestly, I'm disappointed. I know, I know, there has to be a trade-off between size and power, but still...what if they made these sorta like the HP TC1100? Have all the guts in the top part of the thing and have the QWERTY keyboard portion removable? Doing even that much would make it possible to be a lot slimmer when you don't need the keyboard...

I don't have an exact weight but size is 3.2 x 5.1 x 0.6 inches and the picture shown here is not at all what it looks like. See this link for actual picture and detailed specs. I can only pray this will become available in the US.

Hey bluemonq, the only way you'll look like a dork holding this up to your head is if you are a dork.
If you don't want a pocket pc phone then quit posting comments about them. Screen size is essential for these devices to be best utilized and that means their size (width and height) should remain. Some of us use them as terminal clients to connect to PC's among other more hardware/software intensive functions. Go request that the girl phones are dumbed down.
You should hold your posts for vanity phones motoboy.

^^^!!! Brandon, you rock!! ROTFL!! motoboy jajaja!!

That resolution doesn't make sense.
Besides, it's still big, ugly and (most probably) still heavy, and lacking GPS.

You might want to try this link as it translates from the correct language, Italian, rather than Spanish:

bluemonq, sounds like you're after the HTC Athena, not the Omni. But, be prepared to shell out some serious cash for the upgrade.

Finally, wide screen from HTC!! :D
jjd @ Jan 8th 2007 5:25PM
Similar specs to the just announced Nokia N800 internet tablet, but with a cell phone.
Now if only the HTC would run linux....
wesrubix @ Jan 8th 2007 10:28PM
I'm with E71: with all that bulk, they couldn't find room for GPS? If this is supposed to be the flagship, it shoudl have every feature under the HTC rainbow!

I am a HTC Universal user, and I'm very pleased. I'm expecting great things from the Omni, such as GPS, EDGE, 4 GB of internal flash memory, etc.
mazen @ Jan 9th 2007 12:18PM
I think it's great. One device that (with a bluetooth headset) give me phone, email, web, media player and replaces some of the functions of my laptop. I hope it has A2DP (likely) and GPS (less likely).
Some people complain about size and while I see where they're coming from I believe that the market has a need for a compact phone-PDA and well as for a capable PDA-phone. This device serves the latter. For my needs I'll sacrifice size for a device that saves me from whipping out my laptop every now-and-then. While I love my 8125 (HTC Wizard) I feel that the screen's too small for browsing and the device is too slow.

For the physical dimensions this phone will undoubtedly have and the price they're most likely going to charge ($1000+ USD), this thing better have GPS, 4GB of flash memory, an FM radio, a 3mp camera, and quad-band G/G/E and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA, in addition to everything else it already has. Otherwise, forget it.
Eten and HTC have phones on the horizon that have all of that except for the 4GB of memory and maybe a VGA screen (but then again, they're smaller and less expensive than this beast). So this Universal v2 better have unbelievable specs.

The device has a Qualcomm MBM7200 on board. If you check the specifications of this chip (http://www.cdmatech.com/download_library/pdf/msm7200_chipset.pdf) you wil see it is supporting GPS.
Now hoping that HTC use this and mounts a antenne for it. We'll see.
