iriver W10 hands-on
iriver's new W10 caught a bit of unexpected competition today as SanDisk's Sansa View and it isn't even out of the gate yet, but it definitely appears that a new category is emerging: the portable media player with touchscreen and PDA like functionality. It all comes full circle, dunnit? This WiFi-equipped pseudo-GPS-enabled media players has one of the highest resolution screens in its class (480 x 272 at 3-inches), 8GB of memory, miniSD, FM tuner, H.264, WMV, and so on. Check otu the gallery, we've got the pics.

All these new media players are starting to make the iPod seem very dated indeed, looks like Apple won't be able to get away with just a bigger hard drive and a series of minor changes on the next go, they'll have to make a statement.

EVERYONE is beating Apple to the dance this time. I wonder if they should stay home rather than be caught wearing the same outfit as everyone else?

Well seeing that last summer that Apple's version of this got delayed due to touchscreen problems, Yeah they ARE beating Apple to the Dance..but you have to remember that Apple wasn't excactly the first to the dance with MP3 players
or the first to the dance with and flash MP3 player...Yet, who's #1?
I'm looking at this as a really good chance that tomorrow we will see a TRUE video iPod..Just like last year at CES we saw abunch of intel core Laptops..then we saw the Macbook Pro at Macworld.

Sight, too bad alot of us are locked in the itunes music drm. At least I have a way of cracking it now. But it costs $25 for the program.
The clix is now perfect in my opinion. I didn't like the thickness, and now that has been solved.

Clix2, Clix2, Clix2 .. dreaming in my sleep, clix2 ..
Seriously, hope that damn thing comes to the US shopres, AND FAST.
Sorry this post is about the W10, but cant resist the clix2. iRiver has been doing fasntastic with this whole slew of new DAP's and what not. Even the UNIT2 looks damn cool. Hope they make some profits this side of the ocean too - so taht we can keep getting these nice products that only the Asians seem to get, while we are stuck with the same old same old iPod. Ok, and Sansa now.

Apple's #1 because people aren't smart. Their product is neither the best, nor the least expensive, nor the easiest to use, nor the first, nor...
But they did get the iTunes thing right -- instead of selling people music, they're allowing them to use it for a fee -- as the music becomes useless without an iPod. Once people started paying money for music, they were locked into Apple's DRM.
It's not gonna last -- Apple's restrictions management is now circumventable, and I'll expect to see a lawsuit soon which will require Apple to set people's music free. After all, they DID pay for it, right?
