Motorola announces MOTORIZR Z6
The first RAZR-esque slider for global release from Moto, the MOTORIZR Z3, hasn't even seen wide distribution yet, but that didn't stop them from announcing the hotter Z6 at CES this week. The upgraded device adds a so-2006 glossy black finish and features Motorola's new Linux- and Java-based platform, but perhaps more importantly to users, it integrates seamlessly with Windows Media Player 11 and rocks support for Windows Media DRM. Other features of the music-heavy handset carry over from the Z3, including a 2 megapixel cam, Bluetooth with A2DP, and expansion via microSD; sadly, there's still no mention of 3G on board. Expect the Z6 to be available by the end of this half of the year, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.

Wait what? Oh okay...Whew! That was a close one. For a second there, I thought it said "MOTOJIZR." lol

Looks alot, and i mean ALOT better than the rizer or that one that has something to do with rising. But anyway, yes, i would buy this in a heart beat.

from the way it looks, there's going to be alot of problems text messaging. The buttons from these phones are hard enough to push, now add in a smaller space to type plus the bulk on the bottom and the over hang on the top.

can this thing work with prepaid plans?

What i want to know is... if Apple do release a Phone... how can they Compete against something like this and other similarly well-designed phones from Samsung, Nokia et el.
It seems like an impossible battle because Apple's competitors are huge multinationals with billions of spending power. not [relatively] small companies like rio, creative etc. trying to play catch up.
Now it's Apple playing catch-up.
I understand that the software will be a lot better and it will undoubtably have great integration but are the marits of an apple phone really going to be understand by the public at-large? that is the biggest question that Apple must answer for me.
I'd like to finish this comment by stating that much of my investment portfolio is tied up in Apple and I've been a Mac user since '98.

Actually i had a phone kinda the same shape and it was just fine

They couldn't get rid of that black bar at the bottom. Motorola's RAZR/SLVR/RIZR are nice looking products, but suffer from subpar quality. It's predictable that the Z6 isn't going to be a breakthrough for Motorola; especially with Apple hopefully in the competition. If Samsung's 13.8 slider came to the states, that would wipe all competitors out of the water. (Besides the "iffy" Apple phone)
@Stephen- Apple know's what they're doing. If they decide to plan a phone, it'll be a leap ahead in technology and a foot ahead of competition. They're not an unprofessional company who takes random risks. They know their strengths and weaknesses, key customers, and everything else about marketing their products.

I don't understand the love of sliders.
Flip phones are just easier and the screen scratches less.
Padam @ Jan 10th 2007 4:01AM
This phone will be very superior compred to the previous motorola phones.. It has a whole new hardware chip based on a new architecture which is supposed to do wonders.. Plus the software is new and I hope is not as sluggish as the previous ones...
The best part is about the windows media player and .wav support...Much before Apple can announce their iPhone....
xman @ Jan 10th 2007 10:25AM
I think apple should just work with moto phone by tiding nano with L7. like front screen is phone and back screen is ipod.
ryan Anderson @ Jan 11th 2007 1:28AM
would this be in cdma or gsm?
vatobro @ Jan 11th 2007 9:03AM
I think if they did take off the bottom thing it would look like they were copying the lg chocolate, ialso think that the buttons would just be the same as the regular razr the olny difference would be they get covered with a slide. And i really hope they make one for verizon, i think people would buy it if they spread out to more service providers???
nin @ Jan 15th 2007 9:18PM
its a gsm phone it cant come out for verizon.. its most likely coming out for cingular but tmobile should eventually have it too.. if not u can get it unlocked
