Nokia puts Nseries on a diet: the N76
Nokia has taken its Nseries line of smartphones in a decidedly more fashionable direction than it's used to going, announcing the 13.7 millimeter thick N76 clamshell this week. Specs aren't quite up to snuff with Nokia's latest and greatest, but hey, they're not bad either: QVGA display, 20MB of internal memory, and 2 megapixel cam, topped with a standard 3.5 millimeter audio jack (which may not be internal to the phone itself, but rather provided via dongle -- we need to investigate this one) and UMTS data for 2100MHz-friendly portions of the globe. As we've seen with other Nokia models, a second variant of the N76 will be made available for us broadband data-hating Americans that simply removes the UMTS support while retaining quadband GSM with EDGE. Look for the N76 to find its way into fashion-conscious hands starting later this quarter for around €390 ($510, give or take).

First phone by Nokia in a while that is actually appealing. Like many, I was a hardcore nokia fanboy until last summer -- when i switched to a sony ericsson w810i. I felt like Nokia had lost its edge and that its phones were no longer up to par like its past offerings, in terms of both design, functionality, and value.

"us broadband data-hating Americans"
What? I don't think so, being from Europe.
That should read: thanks to Qualcomm's lawyers, an UMTS-less model will be available just for us Americans. :)

Maybe it's just because of the red colour scheme but that thing is looking ugly as hell at the moment. I'll be sticking with my N73 or getting an N95 methinks.

I find the Nokia E50 to me an amazingly stylish phone. Business stylish that is, for college stylish, go for SE i guess or Motorola....

Some more pics - in a black ...
I like the front idea - but its a bit to "razor" for me! If the battery is good, it does look like a good upgrade for the missus (odd with a handbag, she still wants a smaller phone!)

oh no. it has finally happened. nokia builds a slim phone.
so either thats the beginning of a slow decline towards useless fashion items, or the start of a wonderfull breed of good looking and good working phones.
however i keep my 5500 for a few years. heavy and big, but rock solid.

No dongle is necessary, the N76 comes with a standard audio jack, check it out: http://rawsocket.org/?p=338
