Verizon's taking another shot at the "is it a phone, or is it an information appliance?" market, showing its totally redesigned Verizon One this week. Like its
predecessor, the device sorta defies any categorization -- but very much
unlike its predecessor, this is one piece of kit we wouldn't much mind setting on our nightstands, coffee tables, or kitchen counters. The units being shown at CES are pre-production, though still very functional with artwork brought in from The Museum of Modern Art, traffic reports, weather, and other glanceable miscellany on its crisp, bright touchscreen, while the handset itself is a squared-off cordless type (no dual-mode here). Media can be brought over from PCs and Verizon's set-top boxes, though placeshifting television to the One will not initially be supported. Verizon will be marketing these bad boys primarily to its FiOS customers, but they've specifically said there's no reason they couldn't be used in any networked environment and they could very well be sold outside the FiOS areas with an additional monthly fee for service. GOTTA to HAVE ONE TO VERRY SOON thank you
I've owned the original model for over 3 years. Here are my thoughts. Nice little unit, most of it's features work well. However, it is the worst cordless phone i've ever used. Less than 1/3 the range of the cheapest cordless you could buy. Maybe this is improved on the 'new' model. WORST OF ALL - is the service and support for the online access features. I haven't been able to log-in to my verizon-one account for over 2 years. I've called Verizon a least a dozen times and spent hours on each attempt with no help. I cannot log-in or reset my password and no-one can help me. This only disables many of the 'personalization' features of the unit, like uploading photos! The rest of the unit works fine. Lastly, the DSL info server that supplies this thing w/ it's online info (weather and such)is constantly down or unavailable. At least 10-20% of the time it is down. When it works, its great. The stylus feature wotks well.
Unfortunately, with all the great promises of this unit, i cannot recommend it as Verizon has done a poor job of offering support/service.
The warm feeling I get when someone is thoughtful enough to say thank you for having been helped far outweighs the empty one I get when there's no feedback at all.
realestate
when does this come out im definitly buying it
Very nice... Happy I have FiOS. I am definitely interested in this.
