It was in the case, what can we say? We'd love to have gotten our hands on it, but this should tide you over until June when this thing hit the streets. You know what it does, check out our gallery.
I have faith this phone will function well. However, it already looks like it eats batteries alive. Good job apple for mixing it up with the industrial design however.
Indeed!!! Releasing an OS that has not been widespread (compatible with 1000s of other mobile applications). How about the fact that it is $600 with a 2-year contract? And who knows how much it costs to sign up for the data plan?
Never thought I would be so impressed by a phone... Everything they have done... dear god. Makes the current ipod looks bad, real bad. Not even mentioning the Zune. LOL Can we expect a 40gig, 80gig or 100 gig with that design??
Not a chance that we will see any decent drive sizes in these models for at least a few years. They are releasing a 4gb and an 8gb I believe, so chances are we wont see one any time soon. I'll wait till they come out with the second or third generation of these phones, once they work all the bugs out. For now I'll stay with my Tmo Dash with my 2GB card and my old 40Gig 3rd Gen iPod. If it aint broke dont fix it right? Especially when "fixing it" will run me an extra $5-600 (ouch)
It just looks like an ordinary phone...It has nothing to do with the iPod. I guess we all thought it would be like an iPod. Whatever, besides that, I think it looks pretty sweet. Is it a touchpad? Or is that a joystick-like thing on the bottom? And why no pictures of it playing music???
Meh. It's beautiful, but after my HTC Wizard I'll never own a phone without a keypad again. Touchscreen dialing for teh lose. Trying to dial without any tactile feedback is miserable. Especially when you can't look at the phone: driving, texting under the desk during meetings/classes, navigating tele-menus. Microsoft voice command almost saved it, but not quite.
It looks nice, but it ain't a phone without a keypad. And it's 2G. And it's got a 2mp camera. Apple's actually behind the times on this in several pretty important ways.
I love my iPod, but no way I'm buying this. My current phone is actually better, spec-wise (it'll even support 8GB via cheap flash memory), and it cost me nothing. It just doesn't look quite as "groundbreaking".
You do realise that it has a multi-touch screen i.e. you use two fingers on the screen at the same time for certain instructions. Now that is something very new.
I will happily pay $600 for a OS other than Windows Mobile or the crappy Motorola OS. This actually looks fun to use. I thought Apple was gonna do it big, but Im really speechless after this.
Apparently Cisco has licensing sorted out and it was all done in the few hours before and will be signed very soon. I read this on CNET's live coverage. They were reporting from MacWorld's coverage.
So I had to worry about people jumping me for my ipod before, and now you want me to use it as a phone for all to see? Thats just asking to be robbed. It looks pretty damn cool, but I'll pass...
I hope a 6th gen iPod is coming. Using this screen, bluetooth, wi-fi, etc just take out the phone and camera and add a hard drive and bigger battery. It will have to be thicker but I would not even think twice about paying $599 or more for one...
* The multi-touch interface is a plus, but lack of 3G is a minus. * 4/8GB of flash memory is a plus, but there are other phones that have this (e.g the Sony W950). * Triple wireless (GSM, WiFi, Bluetooth) is standard in all the new Series 60 phones from Nokia, so nothing new there. * You can’t call iPod-ness a plus because the familiar iPod interface is not carried through to the iPhone.
The summary of incremental features that the iPhone has over other smartphones is a gorgeous screen and multi-touch. Lack of 3G is a minus, so in my opinion, OSX on the iPhone needs to be 100% lag-free and crash-free in order to make the iPhone a definite winner over the rest of the crowded smartphone market.
Where's OS X? I see a phone UI that looks similiar, but I don't see a full fledge computer OS. If they added a full fledge OS in the 1st generation of this device, maybe it would be worth the $500/$600. I just don't think of a phone as something that will last for more than 1 year and I'd hate to have to replace this phone with a new one and ipod in the future.
1) How am I suppose to browse a FULL webpage with EDGE?
2) On screen keyboards suck
3) Old technology in a phone that's six months away from release
4) High price tag
5) $600 phone I can't add my own software applications
6) IT'S JUST A PHONE; it better make phone calls pretty well
you forgot the whole fact that no tactile feedback kills touchscreen lcd's even if its multitouch, people want feedback when they type simple but true.
Yes its beautiful but in those handson photos that screens looking quite pixelated dont know if thats the screen stretch or if its the pictures themselves...
But as ben said its not much new, i mean ya the osx is nice, but its not full blown osx, its the osx backend with a phone frontend ... kinda like when they said the xbox1 was running windows 2000 lol
I am very disappointed. That may sound like a bizzare statement but I am not happy. This thing is overkill. I would have been happier if they had released a TRUE VIDEO IPOD. This iPhone which is basically a PDA, takes no design cues from the iPod we know and (mostly) love. I would have prefered an iPod video in widescreen format, with aluminium design and thin form factor like a cross between the current iPod and the nano.
The other thing is they must have bumped their heads if they think they can market this in Asia by 2008, they probably manufacturing knock-off as we speak. And anyway they've entered a whole new market now, where phone manufacturers produces new models every quater and aren't as obsessively secretive as Apple. This things is going to attacked with competition full pelt. I'm sure when it ships (in Cal4 for me) other manufacturers will have a more viable, cheaper option, that not chained to some bloody phone company. $600 for an 8GB, in sterling thats going to end up as £500 (nearly $1000).
In summary, why don't they complete the iPod line with a proper 100GB iPod Video with wide/touch screen, not added onto a PDA with a poxy 8GB memory, how many movies is anyone going to store on that?
I like my phone. I don't a PDA, otherwise I would have bought one.
Interface be white? I thought interface is the linking between two systems. Should you have referred to it as it's body or shell color? Also, what did you mean by it looking Vista? You used vista as an adj. when it's a noun meaning a view, not looking view. I was just wondering what your interpretation meant by describing the device as you did. Thanks.
I haven't seen anything about this yet, but can you use the internet capability of the iPhone to download new videos/songs on the go? Or do you need to come home and sync with iTunes to get new content?

Thank you. These 'in the wild' type shots give a better idea of the device. Apple's shots make it look the size of a Tablet PC.

How can they get away with calling this thing an iPhone? Doesn't Linksys already have a VOIP unit called this?

Yes, thicker, 3 hours less battery life, and can be yours for the ridiculously low price of $1400.

It will probably change by the time they release it. Stuff like the 2mp camera.
Is the camera on the BACK only? Not good for conferencing.

is it not a widescreen nano?
