Honestly, it's hard for us to imagine that companies are wasting marketing money to announce a minor update in an already overly-saturated market at one of the largest tech events of the year. It seems the not-so-money-Smartparts would disagree, and has chosen this occasion to roll out 7-inch versions of the two digital photo frames we announced a
couple months back. What's different? Just OptiPix, and some "smart" software that can resize and optimize pictures for maximum viewing pleasure. With that said, we are officially putting the kibosh on posting about other products in this category -- so unless something truly noteworthy comes about, please enjoy the rest of the non-digital-picture-frame-related-CES news.

You disappoint me. Every new laptop with a dual core chip was reported breathlessly by Engadget despite the lack of innovation (news value) and this blog's focus on gadets per se, not computers. Yet you are now saying there are some product categories where you will refuse to tell readers?
I, for one, am interested in this product category and relatively few people yet have a digital picture frame.
Sure, don't mention every minor nuance, but please keep us informed.

Fewer inches, not less. Ha!

IMHO with regard to digital photo frames I think 7 inch products will become obsolete in less than 1 year as the larger 8 inch and 10 inch products come into the market at ever cheaper prices such as this one...

I bought this product late last year (2006). Probably the next step will be 12 or 13 inch models.

If you deal with digital photo frames, you will notice that there a huge price differences between 7 inch and 8 inch models.
7 inch just became popular for digital photo frames because of the low price. Furthermore, 7 inch models usually use analog panels, while 8 inch models use digital panels. Digital panels have a much better picture quality.
