Belkin intros USB-powered laptop Cooling Stand
While it's easy to assume that most laptop stands will inevitably increase the airflow surrounding the case, therefore cooling your machine off somewhat, that's apparently just not enough for some of the lap burners on the market today. For those who just can't part with their searing machines, Belkin has unveiled a new Cooling Stand that purportedly prevents your laptop from overheating. Of course, if it literally takes a fan to curb an overheating problem, you might have something a bit more serious on your hands, but alas, this trendy white / silver riser sports a modern, slightly curved design with a fan located in the center of the unit. Its self-proclaimed "high-capacity blower" moves air out from under your lappie and is powered entirely by your USB port (the one not powering that USB seat cooler), so you can drain your already weak battery even more when trying to keep cool on the go. You can snag one of these wind machines late next month for $29.99.[Via TechDigest]

I had this great laptop cooler, what was great about it is that it didn't use any power, it was self powered. Here is a link of it: http://tinyurl.com/yhhgbm
It was 13 inches tall and was the perfect size for my laptop. That belkin one does look cool (pardon the pun).

I tested this camera for a client. I didn’t have the light running for more than 15 minutes. The battery lasted approximately 6 hours before recharging. The LCD, however, had a few dead pixels - never saw this before. Tried returning for exchange and had to put up quite a fight. Anyone else seen this? laptop battery
Verizon is about the only place you can get the authentic RIM product and matching door. Most other sites are out of stock and even when they are in stock they have the black battery door which looks like crap. new battery

this is not a new concept... 30 dollars for one fan is a ripoff. i have an aluminum cooler with 2 fans and i got it for only $20

Air is a really bad thermal conductor. If you're willing to use something like this your laptop is already on a desk or something so buy a $10 sheet of thermally conductive foam stick it to the bottom of the laptap and then set it on something and heat will move out of the laptop many times faster than blowing air up at the bottom of the laptop.
If laptops just didn't have rubber feet that isolated them from the surface under them the could move the heat out much better.

I use a cookie sheet with a 1/4" raised edge. Flip it upside down with the edges on your lap and it keeps things pretty cool.

usually the reason that one would want to keep their laptop cool would be to keep the internal fans running less so as to conserve battery. seems like running a usb powered fan defeats the purpose, i agree with some of the other posts- just put the darn thing on a solid surface and call it a day!
