Cingular rolls out Motorola KRZR
Verizon, Sprint, Cingular, T-Mobile -- that looks to be the order of American major network KRZR releases now that Cingular's flavor has officially hit the streets. With nothing more than EDGE to shore up its data offering, the K1 isn't exactly a tech powerhouse, but we somehow suspect that the fashion-friendly lines, gloss, and touch controls will sell themselves to a fairly sizable (and profitable) demographic. Cingular customers can put a little piece of Motorola's (in)famous industrial design in their pockets today for $200 after contract and rebates, and on that note, we'd just like to gently remind folks that this is a good hundie over and above the smarter 3125. We're just sayin'.

It's a crappy Motorola with no discerning benefits over anything else - Of ourse it's $100 more expensive! You gotta milk that old, diseased cow for as long as you can.

i'll wait for the iPhone
TriZz @ Jan 11th 2007 7:50AM
Yeah, you guy should just stop doing cell phone reviews until the iPhone comes out. Everything will be shit by comparison.
For example: I just got a Blackberry Pearl. I loved this phone until the Keynote on Tuesday. Now I resent my phone like it just killed my mother.
Thanks Steve! Can't wait for June.

another brainless Apple-zombie comment! So when the Mac Pro came out ppl stopped buying PCs eh and Apple's market share went from 1% to 100% - especially at $3000 US a pop?!
The iPhone will be a fad for rich stylistic Americans...nothing more nothing less until they revise prices and demographics (maybe v2. which will come out hte yearr after making this first edition obsolete ala iPods) - I can see nokia or SE bringing out a clone (and a better clone at that given their track history) at half the price, much less what they have from their own innovative designers in the pipeline alerady!

did anyone notice that the cingular got a gsm flavor of the k1m? I was under the impression that cingular was getting a regular k1 with no touch screen features. Maybe that's why it took them so long to release it.
Devin @ Jan 11th 2007 10:34AM
That's a picture of Sprints K1m, I have a feeling that Cingular is just using the wrong picture becuase the Cingular K1's I've seen are blue and don't have touch controls

I cant believe all SP are charging so much for this phone. Is it selling? I have seen two people with it. And i take Public Trans in a major city everyday and stare at everyones phones...mostly blackjacks these days.

Alltel was one of the 1st carriers to carry the krzr. They are the 5th largest carrier and have great service especially in the south and rural areas. I'm sick of people treating them like 2nd class citizens. They have been quite innovative in their field. The 1st carrier w/ a fastap phone. My circle allows 10 numbers to be used instead of the 5 in T-mobiles my faves. They are deserve to be treated w/ some respect.
Sean DL @ Jan 12th 2007 12:20AM
Untill they have service in my area..they don't get any respect...specially when they keep taunting me with there ads on Adult Swim...
Edward @ Jan 11th 2007 12:12PM
Got the KRZR from Alltel back in November. Love it. Sturdy, functional, easy to use. I have hearing damage and the volume control is good enough for me to hear. Speaker phone works well too. Though, accessories are tough to come by. I still can't find a decent holster I like. Cameras suck but then, I don't use them. Though I wish I could stick a 2g Micro SD drive. The phone only allows 1g.
Chris K. @ Jan 11th 2007 1:31PM
The Sprint KRZR K1m does not have a touch screen.
And I'm not quit sure why Cingular is using a picture of the Sprint KRZR on their website. It's sorta hard to see, but the carrier text on the screen of the KRZR pic on the Cingular website definitly says "Sprint." More than likely Cingular picked up the black variant of the K1 we saw come out last week and is just too lazy to get a pic of a Cingy one, hence the Sprint one.

wow. another razr rip off with the same crappy, mopey look to it... cant wait to see what motorola will dump out next year- maybe it'll be a fazr or a tazr or the uber- popular- waiting- on- the- edge- of- my- seat- for- it- to- come- out- so- i- can- buy- it---- wait for it--- the LITESABR phone complete with george lucas' signature... sometimes technology sucks- this is a prime example...
Jay Hash @ Jan 12th 2007 8:11PM
I picked one up a day before they were advertised as on sale, and I have to say I'm a bit pleased with the results. I originally had a RAZR V3 (no R, M, I, or x) and this phone is head and shoulders above what I had. It actually does some of the things that I think that the RAZR should have done, but I could never get to work correctly.
But I can see where people might be dissapointed: No 3G capabilty ( I guess that's the buzzword isn't it? I still don't even know what 3G actually is), and little in the way of new features. But I have to say the form is much better than that of a RAZR and seemingly has a more stable software. The phone has heft, feels like it's solid, and closes nice and softly as opposed to the snap shut style that the RAZR originally used.
I like the ohone, and wouldn't ahve got it, truly, until after the iPhone came out, but if I have a little cash to burn in the near future, I may just retire my KRZR in June, and pick up Apple's product.
But, it's true what ahs been said: No touch buttons (that's exclusive of the CDMA version) and only "cosmic Blue" color (no black yet, but if you really want one you can buy one unlocked or get a housing replacemtn kit and destroy the phone yourself).
All in all, I like it.

Somebody really needs to sack the person who names these Motorolas...
Steve @ Jan 13th 2007 3:39PM

leonard @ Jan 17th 2007 3:17PM
have they released the rizr offically in the states yet?
Brandon @ Jan 17th 2007 4:31PM
This is a step up from the Razr but why bother droling over that when they should release this? More functionality with the same ease of use and it looks better.

1 Question:
Is it possible I buy this Motorola phone and use it in India with the Reliance CDMA Network. I checked the carrier protocol details, they seem to be the same in US and India.
I am not sure if the CDMA phones are service procvider specific..
This MotoRola series is selling like hotcakes here in India (for GSM) because of its looks!
Roger @ Jan 18th 2007 6:24PM
haha dude idk if its gonna work...u might have to buy the phone frm manufacturer if u want it to work it with reliance cuz its CDMA. The CDMA phones in the US are flashed with the specific company like verizon or sprint.
The GSM phones would work in india if they are unlocked with Hutch, AIrtel or other ones which use sims
And Motorola was about to be bankrupt in India, Nokia, Samsung on SE rule in india man
