Mock unboxing of the iPhone
Seriously, when was the last time people were so stoked about a gadget that they actually went to the trouble of designing fake packaging (and a fake gadget, too) just to live the unboxing sensation a few months early? Note the not-so-well-glued paper printout decals -- c'mon man, those are the details Jobs would pay attention to.

The following treads at engadget: "playing with iPhone", "f..king with iPhone", "sleeping with iPhone"...
jeff @ Jan 11th 2007 7:15PM
perhaps the most idiotic thing i've seen on engadget...
Deezee @ Jan 11th 2007 7:17PM
Just when you think Apple fanatics cant get any fruitier....
Jonathan Keim @ Jan 11th 2007 7:17PM
Ha ha, this was great. It's nice reading an article like this
Jonathan Keim @ Jan 11th 2007 7:18PM
This guy went all the way! look at the read link http://www.iphoneunboxed.com/
Naarn @ Jan 11th 2007 7:22PM
C'mon - look at that guys's watch - I'm tipping this is not the first time he has excitedly unboxed a gadget!!!
Colin B @ Jan 11th 2007 7:31PM
Apparently, in Apple-ville, it's always 9:41.
Jean-Michel Decombe @ Jan 11th 2007 7:31PM
That's not an Apple fanatic... He's running Windows on the flat screen.
Matthew @ Jan 11th 2007 7:32PM
Notice the Windows desktop in the background?
And you would've thought this guy was at least one of Apple's bitches (read fanboys)
Ben @ Jan 11th 2007 7:34PM
Granted, iPhone is cool, but at this rate, come june, iWon't give a crap about it....
Steve @ Jan 11th 2007 7:44PM
So I guess the phone is on while it's in the box?
Jean-Michel Decombe @ Jan 11th 2007 7:49PM
BTW, here's a good article that shows that Cisco's case is not as bulletproof as people think, despite Apple's recklessness.
http://www.macworld.com/news/2007/01/11/iphonedispute/index.php
Oh, if you search: +iphone +cisco -apple on Google, you get about 330,000 results. But if you search: +iphone -cisco +apple, you get more than 18 million results. All these results did not magically appear overnight after Steve Jobs' announcement. And it is really about whether confusion ensues in the minds of consumers.
Let the fun begin...
Nick @ Jan 11th 2007 7:51PM
LMAO. That's fucking hilarious....Yea, I want an iPhone like NOWWWW! But I'm prolly gonna get it off one of those freebie sites instead of buying it...I WANT IT NOW!!! INCOMPLETE SOFTWARE AND ALL!
jason @ Jan 11th 2007 8:47PM
freebie sites?? what the hell have you been smokin'? the iphone ain't ever going to be on a freebie site. i don't see the prices dropping below $300 with your 3 sensors, multi-touch and apple design.
no, you better be saving your pennies otherwise you're s.o.l.
i'm going to have a good laugh come june when so many fan boys have to do without because papa jobs priced this thing out of most people's budgets.
Jeremy K. @ Jan 11th 2007 7:52PM
lol
paul @ Jan 11th 2007 7:59PM
OK, I'm officially sick of the iPhone. I don't even want one anymore.

"BTW, here's a good article that shows that Cisco's case is not as bulletproof as people think, despite Apple's recklessness."
Have you even read the whole thing? About 60% of the bottom article is about many, many people saying Apple will be shelling out the cash and will blatantly lose the case.
David Y. @ Jan 11th 2007 8:08PM
ewww...windows xp running in the corner? Blasphemy!
Thomas Bags @ Jan 11th 2007 8:28PM
It has the magical ability to be stuck forever at 9:41
plus its amazing how its on when you open the box!
i wish my gadgets did that
Chris @ Jan 11th 2007 10:21PM
I heard that Jobs rejected the previous versions 12:00 - 9:40.
Flalex @ Jan 11th 2007 8:44PM
I'm getting sick of the iPhone. Or I guess the Apple phone. Cisco's got it in the bag.
Chris @ Jan 12th 2007 9:58PM
You have to remembmber theat apple fanboys are stupid enough to pay 1100 dollars for a laptop with 512MB of RAM and no DVD burner, and 1,000 dollars for a desktop iMac with only 512MB of RAM and no DVD burner.
Patrick @ Jan 11th 2007 8:49PM
Theres too many of these geek fucks gettin around with these dub fuck flash watches these days imo..
taka @ Jan 11th 2007 8:59PM

Rman @ Jan 11th 2007 9:09PM
Notice the PC in the background... Does the iPhone even work with PC's?
mrsalty @ Jan 11th 2007 9:34PM
Are those dimensions correct? It looks smaller or nearly the same size at the BB Pearl? If it is that small I'm gonna change my mind and get the first version, after reading Steven Levy's article. I'm pretty sure now that it will read PDFs, Word docs, and some Excel files. Jobs, said their is a tray for the sim card on the top... WHERE????
Nick S @ Jan 11th 2007 9:56PM
like the song "its five oclock somewhere"
except for geeks now "its 9:41 somewhere"
on all the images, 9:41. even the (should be) separately timed individual shots. unless they are uber quick in taking all those pics in under a minute. not likely. :P
Impulse
matt @ Jan 11th 2007 10:43PM
Rman: yes, the iPhone will work with PCs
Ron @ Jan 11th 2007 10:57PM
I wonder if Steve Jobs is sitting in his penthouse right now laughing
Dave Kaufman @ Jan 12th 2007 1:45AM
Nice job engadget. And he told me my photos were exclusive. Boo-hoo.

I guess it was up first and maybe you just read my site. Then again, who doesn't? (oh yeah, everyone.)
Like the poster Ryan - I thought it was funny and totally classic. Especially if you didn't know. And yeah I know him, and yeah he is an Apple-holic.
My guess is the PC is the camera owner's not his.
Tech^Cellfish @ Jan 12th 2007 2:03AM
They could atleast have used glossy paper on the phone
anonymous @ Jan 12th 2007 2:12AM
It's not always 9:41, he was just so elated to get his iPhone he did that all in under a minute. I mean wouldn't you if you got an iPhone?
Oooh I was just thinking about iPhone eBay scams haha
Brian J James @ Jan 12th 2007 2:54AM
HAHAHA! What a goof ball. I love his sense of humor.
People need to stop taking him so seriously, it's not like he's seriously trying to pass this thing off as a real iPhone... just look at the tape on the fake iPhone closeups. That's hilarious!
He's mocking the fanatics! Classic!
DM @ Jan 12th 2007 3:07AM
Don't you think engadget should stop calling this product "iPhone" since Apple does not yet own the name officially?? Fanboys need to stop getting ahead of themselves.
DM @ Jan 12th 2007 3:09AM
Better call it the ?Phone, for now.
Ratchet the Lombax @ Jan 12th 2007 4:55AM
I never understood the whole "unboxing" thing any way. Some one gets a tech gadget and people want to see them take it out of the box? Well I guess engadget will get an iphone and take pictures of it so everyone will know that it comes in a box and has paperwork with it and that it looks just like Jobs said it would. I will be on the edge of my set for that.
Anyway I think I will pass on the iphone thanks, I like my 80gb ipod and normal cell phone. Both do what they are supposed to do just fine. Plus the ipod has a higher capacity than the iphone and I can watch videos on it and hook it up to an video output. Which I don't think you can with the iphone, also talking on something that looks like that looks a little weird to me.
gentlemanfinn @ Jan 12th 2007 5:49AM
Could anyone tell me what wrist watch he's wearing, from the pictures I like it, and maybe want to buy one :-)
Aaron @ Jan 12th 2007 6:26AM
Hahahaha
Demaar @ Jan 12th 2007 9:46AM
Silly... Apple has clearly demonstrated that black and chrome is the new white. 'Sif they wouldn't make their packaging reflect that.
JC @ Jan 12th 2007 10:32AM
Get. A. Life. The only thing lamer than this guy is that this actually made it onto Engadget.
Barry @ Jan 12th 2007 2:03PM
Anyone know what watch he is wearing????
Adam @ Jan 14th 2007 9:03PM
I am getting really confused about the iphone. Everyone is so geeked up about it, but I must be missing something because I don't see where it will out-perform other phones. I check engadgets blog about 5-7 times a day and have read most of the posts about the iphone. Am I understanding right that no 3rd party software can be developed for it? I currently own a blackjack and I really like the fact that you can find a multitude of software to run on WM5 platform (although selection is limited in the games area for the blackjack).
I am sure the phone will rock like most of Apple, Inc. products, but someone indulge me please.
Thanks
