Must be an iPod photo, had the screen replaced, or it is a fake. That gen didn't have color if I remeber correctly.

I've heard of getting serial keyboards to work for inputting text, but this is extreme. This would also work great for iBoy, a Gameboy emulator.
I think the big apple will soon come out with something like that if they come across this video. There's be like a controller expansion or something for the ipod in the future versions. :-p
Dang, at this rate there won't be any NES controllers in the world still intact in five years. Cool hack though.
Here's a howto-maybe... Got himself a cradle with button support, soldered cables to use said buttons with the nes controller...
