Woman dies trying to win a Wii
With all the hysteria and violence surrounding the PlayStation 3 launch, we were almost positive that it would be the pursuit of Sony's hard-to-find console which would lead to the tragic death of a hopeful gamer. But even though there were numerous scuffles and injuries in the race to secure a PS3, the first and only casualty in the next-gen wars turned out to be a woman trying to win a Wii for her children -- and she lost her life in much more bizarre circumstances than the retail madness we witnessed in late November. 28-year-old Jennifer Strange of Rancho Cardova, CA was found dead inside her home on Friday afternoon after competing in a radio station-sponsored competition which pitted hopefuls against one another for the prize of Nintendo's latest and greatest. Instead of competing on the playing fields of Wii sports or the Japanese streets of Red Steel, however, contestants gathered inside the studios of Sacramento's KDND The End to see who could drink the most water without urinating. The ridiculously-titled "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" contest had entrants imbibe eight ounces of water every fifteen minutes for 90 minutes, after which they were given larger portions until a winner emerged. Ms. Strange -- who did not win -- left the studio in tears, and she was last heard from by her employers at Radiological Associates of Sacramento complaining of a terrible headache. Autopsy results released yesterday showed signs of water intoxication, wherein the body's electrolyte levels are dangerously unbalanced due to a rapid intake of the seemingly harmless liquid. A spokesperson from The End came out with the usual sob story following news of Strange's death, but at least one of her coworkers thinks the station should have done more to prevent this tragedy; it's probably a pretty safe bet that a lawsuit is forthcoming. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

that's why you drink smart water
She worked in a Medical Office?!
Why do poeple do stupid actions
for meaningless things?
Not a common knowledge? I have learned this in elementary school. WTF, why should we feel sorry for her? Everyone knows over consumption is dangerous… or should know. I live in United States and I have leaned this in my elementary school, this is common sense.
This is what people like to do is to sue, sue, and sue; this is what people love, unethical way to make money. What have this world come to, no one believes in hard work any more, now people look free money.
Come on, all this just for a $250 crap video game system (as we have learned by engadget.com, it takes only $150 to make a Wii and they sell it for $250).
There are innocent people dieing all over the world and no one cares or gives a shit about them. However, when this person dies because of her stupidity and everyone feels sorry for her. Bush has killed many innocent people but that is all good because they are Muslims and are not white.
Sometimes I wonder how ignorant, stupid, and heartless can a person be. What is this world coming to?
Most of us would probably safly assume that mabye, just mabye, a community event would be safe for all the people involved. They hardly had a sigh up saying.
"Hold Your Wee for a Wii. Possibilty of dieing included"
This is rubbish. The radio station should be sued out of buisness. And people are saying it was her fault? F*** that. As if. Imaging is 2 years time or whatever, explaining to other people how you mum died trying to get you a game console? Imagine how the family feels now. Half of the comments here are just people saying "lol" having no feelings for anyone except themselfs.
Dumb
It's rather ironic the station is called The End....
replying to mark: uh huh i see ur point. man that is REALLY freaky....
and unknown, that is very true. i mean, what kind of asshole would say that it was HER fault that she died after some FUCKED UP radio station comes up with something called hold ur wee for a WII? some bastards will blame anyone. as for YOU, porche 911, go fuck a donkey, you insensitive dick. first off, if it was your mother, you wouldnt be talking about how stupid she was. most people dont know how easily death can ocur (and most radio stations SHOULD know at least the basics. fucking retards). and also, THE NINTENDO WII DOES NOT SUCK!!! shut the fuck up!! if you are true about the extra $100 (which i assume you arn't) it is probably because of the huge amount of intelect (of which you have none) that nintendo has put into it. nintendo is brilliant in thier products. fuck you. PS. to all of those people out there who are hoping for a lawsuit (im one), you should checkk the news. there's been one.
Porsche,
No, the idea that drinking water could kill you is NOT common knowledge. What's common knowledge is that drinking too much water can make you throw up.
And please quit comparing political crap with local news. What's happening in another country has nothing to do with this case and does not serve as a basis as to whether or not this case has merit. Besides, you're trying to define the feelings of millions of people when you couldn't possibly know what's going through the heart and mind of even one of them. So leave Bush and the Muslims out of it.
The radio station is absolutely liable for what happened. They were reckless and stupid and should be put out of business.
That is horribly sad. And it's sad that anyone would joke about it. :(
I drank too much at once a few years ago; not two gallons or something but a lot, my mouth had been really dry and it was driving me crazy... I didn't realize the amount of water I was taking in. The headache was horrendous and I suppose I could have easily died myself...
People should be careful... the main thing is you have to maintain a good sodium/potassium balance in the blood... That's why so many marathon runners drop dead in the middle of races; they're losing all their salt and electrolytes and not replacing any of it...
Be careful everyone :/
