Luxeed keyboard goes disco, sports programmable color keys
We can't think of a much better way to compliment your disco-inspired mouse than, you guessed it, a psychedelic keyboard. While we've seen our fair share of colored keyboards, Luxeed's latest elevates the game by letting you program each individual key with one of 512 colors, "be it a single hue, a spectrum rainbow," or your own distinct / tacky creation. Reportedly, users can even download color skins / patterns directly from the firm's website, or you can save your own design for future reference, and actual brightness levels can also be adjusted right alone with tone. Moreover, users can make the keys light up and dim based on the beat of the music surrounding it, sure to create quite the dance-floor experience right in your studio. Of course, Luxeed is marketing this as a way to relieve stress via light therapy, but everyone knows this here is best used with all the lights shut out.[Via CNET]

I love it - would be great in the studio... But will it work with Mac? The site is totally Korean....
John Doe @ Jan 15th 2007 4:50PM
I totally thought that was the newest revision of the optimus keyboard
Rick Lyon @ Jan 15th 2007 5:02PM
I like the design, I wish they'd make the keys silver, or the dark grey arm rest color. Nice look. I'll pass on the Hello Kitty at the Rave.
Will @ Jan 15th 2007 5:04PM
according to this page it will cost 10,000 won? That can't be right, since that's U.S. equivalent $10.66

how about a price?
Will @ Jan 15th 2007 5:08PM
Sorry for double post, noticed a couple things.
First, my link up there is just the front page, you have to click the keyboard :P
Second, it looks like they'll also be featuring one in black with etched keys so just the letters glow. Is the Eclipse going to see some competition here?

I can see the appeal of the color - but look at what is is missing: a number pad! I am sure the omission is a cost saving measure, but that seems like a major element to be missing on a full size keyboard.
RyanF @ Jan 15th 2007 5:15PM
I could see this coming in use for newbie gamers who cant remember which keys they do and dont need for a game. Im sure it has other uses, but I cant think of them.
Spencer @ Jan 15th 2007 5:29PM
I LOVE that keyboard
Perfect for my new Vista PC later this month... Any word on price?
I'll take 1 of each!

It looks like the ultimate geek keyboard.
The Periodic Table of Elements Keyboard.
While writing up your scientific research on whatever is getting most exposure in the media these days did you ever think why isn't there a faster way to warn people of the impending doom of The World from Global Warming? Well now there is, The Periodic Table of Elements Keyboard. Example, for Carbon Dioxide just one push of the Carbon button and two pushes of the Oxygen. Methane, a Carbon and four Hydrogens, Ozone three Oxygens. There are literally hundreds more combinations of elements and you too can save time typing them using this keyboard.
You can just imagine the time saved not only will you get your obviously legitimate research out before all those, yes men, follow the crowd type scientists, you'll also be the envy of your fellow lab workers.
While there are currently 118 elements in the Periodic Table we have decided to stick with the tried and true 104 key structure I mean who really uses the ones after 88 anyways. For example at 107 you miss out on Bohrium, more like Boring-um. I rest my case, I mean really who needs capital letters anyway. (Shift and Caps Lock not included).
Act now, supplies are running out fast, the Polar Ice caps are melting at an alarming rate.
Vexorg @ Jan 15th 2007 7:25PM
It sounds like a good idea, right up until you get to the trans fats, complex carbohydrates, or any discussion about DNA. And don't blame me when you wear out your "C" key on a discussion about nanotubes...
mobi fin @ Jan 15th 2007 6:42PM
Imagine if software developers highlighted groups of keys based on function, or in a game all your available weapons could be highlighted and change color as they depleted.
This has so much potential! I'll pay up to $199 for this keyboard.
H @ Jan 15th 2007 6:57PM
they are listed for 30,000 won, about $30 USD, the keypad is detachable and an extra cost I assume. If the colors are stored in the keyboard I am getting one shipped to me via family in Korea.
For me the most obvious uses for lighted keyboards are, music and film editing where we often work in low lighting and don't so much as type as hit various key commands. Also Multimedia PC's/ games where you work in low lighting such as on your coffee table for your 360/PS3/media centre.
My big question is, are the color setting stored in the keyboard or does it need drivers to keep the different colors? Currently getting my wife to read the site and find out....
ModusOperandi @ Jan 15th 2007 8:07PM
Cool keyboard. That is a complete copy of the diNovo Media Desktop keyboard layout right down to the slightly irregular size of the backslash key (1.5 keys wide.)
applesucksLeo @ Jan 15th 2007 8:17PM
That sure looks like the revolutionary iKeyboard from Apple :)
BattleHawk @ Jan 15th 2007 8:18PM
I'm with Justin. I really like the black one, though they're both cool. The sooner I can get my hands on one, the better.
Dave Evans @ Jan 15th 2007 8:21PM
Interesting... a cool hack would be to create a scrolling message display...
oooh @ Jan 15th 2007 10:46PM

Aaron @ Jan 16th 2007 4:26PM
Where do I buy this? I really really need something like this. Please. Any help.
rasauq @ Jan 17th 2007 11:18PM
the site now says 119,000 won, which is $126USD (according to xe.net)
also, the white one looks ok, but the black one really looks nice. just the key labels light up in the color of your choice though.
