There's not a whole lot of details to go on here, but it looks like the iF Design Awards got the first look at ASUS's latest Pocket PC phone, with the Unwired View blog spotting these two pics of the candybar-style handset. Dubbed Pegasus (a throwback to the origin of the company's name), the phone appears to be a slightly slimmed down revision to ASUS's
P525 smartphone, measuring in at a mere 0.6 inches thick while still packing built-in GPS and a camera of unspecified megapixels. Otherwise, about all that's known about the device is that it's Windows Mobile-based, has a full numeric keypad and jog dial, and supposedly has a brushed aluminum finish and diamond-cut edges, although it's tough to discern that from the pics. For the rest of the specs, not to mention details on pricing or availability, it looks like we'll just to wait for a more official announcement.
wow, that surely is one sexy phone. Hopefully stiff competition from Apple will cause these things to come at low prices.
nice if i wanst waiting on the iphone...
first post
Hope this comes out in the UK. Been trying to get hold of a Orangs SPV m3100 for a while but it didn't work out so kept my old phone as a stop gap, this could be my next upgrade IF it comes out in the UK.
I have an M3100, fantastic phone. I got mine by going into one of their business centre stores, it it Orange policy that these types of stores MUST stock the phone. So if you are going to find one it will be there.

I hate to be a buzz-kill, but seriously, after all that iPhone press, anything that dosn't have a touch sensitive screen looks outdated and just plain boring.
@bobo I think we all need to wait and see what this touch screen is going to be like before we get to excited, i dont know about you but if text msging from this touching screen is not up to scratch then give me this phone anyday
Its a Pocket PC....It will have a touch and stylus sensitive screen.
It is teh sexy. I'd take this thing over an iPhone any day of the week.
lol buttons. it looks like my ti-85 calculator
nokia 6681 anyone? maybe its just because i see mine everyday but i think this is a dead ringer for my nokia
If it really is an off-shoot of the P525 then this is going to be one nice phone. I for one don't exactly like touch screen only devices. I like buttons too as the screen tends to get too dirty and full of scratches. But then again, seem slike Apple folks don't mind having scratch magnet devices...
Who cares about scratches - can I install my own programs? Yes, I can!
Sorry iPhone-owners to be, no such luxury for you!
Funny how I would have been interested in this phone if the iPhone had not been announced...
SUCKS!!
The days of the PDA are over...
Why does everything have to be a cell phone??
The added costs of a cell phone are INSANE. With all the wireless that's out there, you can almost get away without having to have cellular.
No one is worried that the screen on this thing scratches or cracks?
WTH are you talking about????
it has a touch screen?! what an iphone rip off!
Since so many of you are harping on about the iPhone, and missing the whole point that this posting is about the Asus Pegasus, I thought I'd point a few things out
iPhone:
Yes it's very sleek looking, and whist Apple are still leading the way in Ergonomic Interfaces - they are also firmly into proprietary exclusivity;
You can't sync an iPhone with Microsoft Outlook (not entirely sure if that's MS shutting them out or Apple snubbing MS users, which, let's face it, is pretty much a global majority)
So the iPhone is a non-starter for anyone who currently sync's their phone with their PC - and who wouldn't sync a smartphone?
The Asus:
As far as convergent devices go, this pretty much has it all;
• It's obviously an evolution of the P525, which runs MSMobile5 - so there's a whole suite of existing Applications & Utilities which can be added on,
• The camera, which even if it's only 2MPix is acceptable for happy-snaps, and Asus also have that funky OCR type business card scanner too,
• Hardware BUTTONS,which anyone who has ever used a touch-screen only device will know really do make a BIG difference, for the better,
• Adding GPS into the mix really rounds this off as an all-in-one.
The only questions that remain as far as I'm concerned will be battery life, and Audio quality (for voice recording, Speakerphone, and streaming MP3 playback to BT headphones).
