There's nothing official yet, but a fast-acting visitor to Nike's just-launched Nike Store Europe website looks to have gotten the scoop on the company's latest exercise-related gadget, snapping the above screenshot of the product page for the hereto unheard of Nike Speed+ watch. Not surprisingly, the page was taken down soon after, although the screenshot we're left with manages to capture most of the key details. Basically taking the place of the iPod in the
Nike+iPod equation, the watch will wirelessly receive distance, pace, and other data from the Nike+ sensor on your
shoe and display it on its backlit LCD screen, also giving you the option to offload that data for uploading to the nikeplus.com website. In another sure sign that the page wasn't quite ready for prime time, it unfortunately doesn't give any indication of price or availability, although from the looks of it, it would seem that it's coming sooner rather than later.
All I want is a GPS Watch that sends data to Nike +! The iPod is great, but the pedometer can be off, especially if you are working on changing your stride or speed work as Marathoners often do. (But I do love my Nike + iPod set up it is just missing that last bit...a GPS)
Am I missing something here? Sure the eliminate the iPod from the equation...but they also eliminate the music. So unless this thing costs substantially less than a Nano, I don't see it as that great a buy.
This thing would reach perfection if it also acted as an iPod remote.
Details about an iPod controlling watch were leaked in November:

The iPod solution was clumsy. Especially for people who doesn't like running with music (and wires flying everywhere).
I want one of those!
I am sure there are some people who choose not to run to music. Personal preference. But headphone wires are not a problem if you know how to run them (through your clothes) and furthermore, no one is saying you actually have to even plug the headphones in to have an ipod track your progress.
Didn't Nike already have this in Triax CV10?
would be perfect if it had GPS and controlled the iPod wirelessly and displayed track info and such.
Ominx, you're right.
But I kinda like the idea of the specialized controls of a wrist watch, instead of fiddling around with the controls of the nano. Also, this watch might take bad weather better than the nano. Allthough super cool, it still was made with musicplaying in mind, which I prefer using it for.
I was thrilled with the Nike+Apple alliance, and I think the iPod Running thing is brilliant. But I find the watch to be a better solution alltogether. Yes, that's a matter of personal preference.
Dan, the CV10 had a huge bulky transmitter for the shoelaces, equal to the one of the Nike Triax SDM. This is far more elegant, imho.
This is great because I'm not a big fan of the iPod but think the Nike+ idea is awesome. I have a Nike+ shoe (Air Max 180+, highly recommended) but am not excited about spending $200 for an iPod. I'll play the waiting game.
The only possible thing that this thing could have going for it is price. Suunto and Polar already have footpods that track speed and communicate with their watches while a chest belt tracks heart rate. Soon Garmin will add a footpod to their Gps watch (also with heart rate sensor) for those times you run indoors.
The previous concept of a remote control watch for the iPod with Nike+ seemed like a much better idea.
Not only that, Nike already has this in it's triax elite watch. Footpod transmits to the watch and gives speed and distance also has heart rate data. I used mine this morning.
If you've got the Nike+ iPod kit and a wordpress blog, you may be interested in a plugin i just wrote that hits the Nike API and shows your stats to the world!
