Homebrew kids add another notch to their belt: Sony GPS support
We can't really call this a loss for Sony, 'cause it's still selling PSP widgets to these hackers, and we assume should be overjoyed at the kind of "in the face of all odds" homebrew scene its PSP still enjoys, but somehow or other Deniska has defeated The proverbial Man and released a new version of the MAP THIS! software which includes support for Sony's official GPS. The little dongle only just hit Japan last month, so props to Deniska for the quick turnaround. If you're hoping to do pull this off with your own PSP, you'll need to import the receiver from some place like Play-Asia, and be running 3.03 OE-B open-edition firmware.

Anyone know when this will be out in North America? And what about the Eye Toy. When is that coming out?
Looks great, but in Japan (The only place where the GPS unit is released) there is already a very good GPS software with actual navigation features. Whenever the unit gets released in the US/Europe I'm sure an equivalent software.

this post has triggered a Nintendo fanboys sixth sense to drop the Wiimotes, come online, and start bashing the system ............. T-minus 10s!
Good job Sony, greatest handheld game console ever. Set the standard for design. Keep up the innovation and MORE HOMEBREW.
The GPS is fairly useless. You need to walk around for an hour just to get a strong enough reply from three satelites to triangulate your coordinates. However, once you get locked on, even if you lose touch it seems that it only requires a fairly weak signal to recover. I have tried this all over Japan and the same results. That is using MapPlus. I wonder if MapThis can detect a signal better than that? If not, the device is completely useless.
I live about 5 blocks away from the cross street in the psp image.. its in brooklyn, NY. Thats nuts.
