HTC Titan in the wild

[Thanks, anonymous tipster]

It's XV6800 not VX6800
Indeed! Thanks for the correction.
is HTC kid or roc a fella married??? J/K Thanks for all the vzw info.
what ever happened to the reports that this device would be CDMA/GSM capable? If only.......
Does anyone know what that is on the back side? If you look at the picture of the back it is the item on the top left hand side.
why does htc insist on continuing to add non standard usb connectors?
#5 it's an antenna connection. On some phones, like the razr, it is covered by a rubber plug or is under the battery cover.
nakmario, it's the connector for an external antenna - it's normally covered by some rubber insertion. I think most HTC phones have this.
re: nonstandard USB connector?
I use the USB cables from blackberries to charge my Sprint PPC 6700
also it looks like this device isn't as slippery at my SPrint PPC 6700.
It's a MIRACLE that my sprint device hasn't squirted out of my hands and busted up. The Sprint 6700 is covered by some kind of super smooth plastic? metal? I have to be super careful not to drop it. IT's also pretty flimsy... Cellphones need to be kind of rugged IMO
Any word on this -- or anything else -- as an upgrade for the T-Mobile MDA rebadge?
Thanks!
I'm already sold on the phone, I'm just dieing for a release date now.
I have been lookingfor info on this phone for days and just got muscled by verizon to get a new phone since they bricked my kyocera 7135 and will not reactivate another one. I picked up the xv6700 with the 15 day return policy I scoured the web to find a release date to no avail. Low and behold my 15 days is up Ive paid full retail vor a ppc 6700 and now an official review of the HTC titan for tmobile and cingular network. check the link http://blogs.zdnet.com/mobile-gadgeteer/?p=102
Did I mention there is also an 18 page pictorial and a link to an online retailer here. http://blogs.zdnet.com/mobile-gadgeteer/?p=102
The 'non-standard' USB is probably so you don't plug the charging cable into your digital camera.
Although it looks non-standard - it looks the same as the HTC TyTyn (T-Mobile MDA Vario II amongst a load of other rebrands) - which takes a standard mini USB to power in that slot - but is the strange shape for the USB headset.
Does anyone have any size specs on this phone? Is it still going to be as big as the 6700?
I like the wireless on-off switch.
@17
The 6700 is 4.2 by 2.3 by 1 inches.
Since the 6800/Titan is no doubt based off the TyTn/Cingular 8525, it should be close to the 4.4x2.3x0.8 inches of the TyTn.
So if it's the CDMA TyTn, it's a tad taller, about as wide, and 80% the width of the 6700, which is a pretty good improvement in terms of thickness. Hope this helps.
It looks like the scroll wheel is still below the left thumb. The pic with the scroll wheel is a side-view, not a top-view.
wow they really screwed this one up... the Tytn looks SO much better.
I cant wait for it to come out on sprint. I absolutely love my 6700, and this looks like a sweet upgrade, Minus of course the transflash slot. Now I have to get another memory card.
Why is the memory card slot at the bottom of the phone? Does this make sense to anyone?
I hear the usb cable sells for 49.99
Is this thing really called the Titan? Why would they come out with the TyTn and then a year later a Titan?
Did they remove the camera on the front of the phone, the one intended for webcam or video calls?
If these pictures are right then it seems they have. That takes a little of the funk out of this CDMA version of the TYTN.

So I just read on the other Titan item that a Verizon rep said 5/15 for this thing. Now I know that they're usually not able to pinpoint release dates until they know they're imminent, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt. But seriously, can't we get any kind of idea when we should be expecting this? May just seems a little far away to me, especially with actual shots of it coming out.
I saw that posting on the other page as well... but now that we're talking about it, wasn't the Sprint version due in May? I had the impression that Verizon's version was due out well before Sprint's. I will be taking it with a grain of salt as well.
Many are speculating now that the delay is due to a decision to test and rollout the phone with the Crossbow OS. Can anybody tell us which phone(s) is slated to release with Crossbow first? Maybe then we can better predict when the Titan will be released.
BTW, for those worried about the proprietary USB port, don't worry about it. Reviews about the 3G version of the TyTn have already indicated that standard mini USB cables will still work and even charge the phone.
I thought the same thing about some kind of exclusive time period for Verizon, even if it was pretty short. May just seems like a pretty long time to go considering we've been hearing about this since September (I think), with pictures as far back as a month ago.
As far as Crossbow goes, that seems to make the most since for the delay. Although I have seen the tentative release of Crossbow pushed back to Q2, according to some sources.
I just can't see why they couldn't simply make it upgradeable to WM6. If they were originally planning on needing an upgrade to Rev A, why not allow an upgrade for the OS as well?
wow. this is serious phone porn.
reasons i'll buy this over the iPhone:
1. sync with exchange
2. real keyboard
3. revA EV-DO
Is it really a 2.0 mp camera, or a 1.3 with conversion to 2.0?
#31, I don't know the answer for sure but check out a couple shots taken from various reviews. Looks pretty good to me:
(there are 2 pics on this review, click Next to see the other one)

(4 pics here, look at the picture taken from a roof and 3 pics of a phone below it)

It would be a treat if the flash function is more than just useless like all other camera phones are, but I'm not holding my breath.
I have no interest in microSD. They are way too small. If the cards have the tendency to go bullistic like on the 6700, good luck finding it. Not to mention that I have $200 bucks in miniSD cards already. That and the fact that they didn't use a standard miniUSB are deal breakers for me. My 6700 is rock solid for me right now. I will have to be forced to replace it within the next two years.....
Look at the standard miniUSB and look at the phone. A Standard miniUSB will fit in this phone. I am sure that the different style is to either sell more accessories or to prevent the plugging of the charger for the phone into other devices…
Some tough questions for anyone with Sprint info:
1. Simultaneous voice & data? We've heard the rumors about EVDO rev. A...
2. Is the Crossbow SIP softphone going to come pre-loaded?
3.) Seamless data roaming between WiFi and EVDO-A? (Cingular 8525 owners, any luck?)
4. Where's the forward-facing video-cam from the TyTn?
Jason - #23: I believe the memory card and USB port are on the bottom to minimize potential RF interference with the antenna.
From what I hear, the cell phone reception is excellent in comparison to it's predecessor and other phones in its class because all of the other ports and components have been moved away from the antenna.
Still very excited to pick this device up. I'd like to pair it up with the bluetooth on Pioneer's upcoming AVIC-D3 car navigation device (to be released within the next month). Hopefully the two will work well together.
Phone is hot but is it true is there a new PDA phone for the Nextel aka i980 and what I heard is coming out 3rd Q
Sorry Walter,
Now that nextel is part of sprint, its doubtful you will ever see new phones(of any value) again. Sprint killed nextel and iden, the network is sold to the government as of 2009 and basically there's no hope left.
About EV-DO Rev A:
No, it does NOT allow for simultaneous data/voice, but if in a data session, it will pause it while on the network when you receive a voice call. So in essence, yes it's possible, but no you cannot browse for information on your email while talking to Grandma (that's 4G folks ;-)).
As for the device itself? It's definitely worth the upgrade, just looking at the features and where it'll be going through :). As for a release date? Verizon Wireless can't confirm them until they're actually released on the market. But as always, it's definitely worth the wait. Just keep an eye on the web site =)
I just called UTstarcom a few minutes ago and the guy told me it would be released probably within 2 months...when i go to verizon they act like i'm some crazy guy that doesnt know what im talking about like its some conspiracy that the phone doesn't exist, one guy even said "the FDA hasnt even approved it yet so it wont come out no where soon, maybe even for a few years" FDA? isnt that for food and drugs, i corrected him and said FCC, another guy was arguing with me saying i was talking about the libra, I dont care bout the poo green phone, watch im going today and i bet im going to educate them again, this time i finally put the picture on my ipod to show them
I've been to 2 Verizon stores and only 1 person has heard anything about this... He actually has the 6700 and is just chomping at the bits to get the upgrade. Said it would likely be this summer.
OK... I went to the verizon store today and i was going to buy the XV 6700 and the guy that was going to sell it to me was talking to me about The XV 6800. I was really set on getting it today, i have a $100 phone upgrade, and i really want this phone, how long do you think it is going to take before it comes out?
