As usual, all things dissolve into an OS war. Your mouths and witticisms aren't going to change people's minds, so what's the point? Charisma doesn't guarantee a superior product, and the Gates' interest in humanitarian issues is far more impressive to me than the ability to attract fanboys.
To the guy who says all laptops come with some sort of disk ... you're wrong. I picked up a Sony Vaio last month, and it came with no CDs at all. I was confused and checked up on it, but apparently it's all hardwired in there. O_o
That said, it does come with a free upgrade to Vista, which I'm waiting on. I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to upgrade, though, because I'm not sure whether or not it's going to be all full of holes. The interface does look neat, though.
Personally, I stick with Windows because I know it, and frankly, most of the things I use programs I use are built for it. In college, I was TA'ing a web design class, and it was full of macs. I had the worst time trying to figure out the interface, and was never comfortable with navigating the OS in any form. I understand and am adept with Windows software, on the other hand (though I don't bother with IE at all anymore) and I'm starting to think a lot of the people who hate on Microsoft for being this terrible crashing nightmare are ignorant to development that occurs. I've had four Windows-running systems, and the only problems that I've ever encountered have been due to my own idiocy, none of this happening since XP. I've never gotten a virus, because I'm not a moron when it comes to checking my email/visiting shady sites.
I don't understand why people have to project so much with this stuff, especially when it comes to the heads of the respective companies. Steve Jobs is not defined by Apple products, nor is Bill Gates defined by MS products. Some people will buy this because they like having 'special' things, whether it's first press albums or limited edition numbered software setups, however ridiculous that might be. :x
;-)
1. I don't even want Vista.
2. I don't need any "Special Edition" signed by BG.
3. Ever since XP sp2 it had been too much "legit" MS spyware... don't even want to use that. Not mentioning the tasty bugs...
As long as I can use the lightest sp XP that still can accomodate all the software I want to use... (which is very crazy much...) I am happy. Why should I just add junk to my computer that will actually make it boot slower, run slower and get reported for every little thing running on my computer to MS? Sorry, BG is smart, I'll give him that, his employees are smart (he did not do this all by himself)... but he is a paranoid God Wannabee that wants to spy on and control your home computer for every little thing if possible... Handing MS money? Am I stupid? :-) :-D
The amazing thing is that i believe that 5,000 more copies were made....or costco has a whole new series of 25,000 vista limited edition copies.
I thought you might enjoy my chat log with Microsoft.

Gates will be sending these out to all the media types who write a positive article about Vista - cheaper than cash into off shore accounts. With the remaining 19,990 (Enderlie gets 2 for his group) Gates gives them to all the Vista team members in appreciation for their 5 years of hard work.
Thts a nice chat
