Homegrown Wii steering wheel proves disgraceful

Since the frequency (and severity) of Wii-related injuries has calmed down somewhat since Nintendo (we think) starting replacing those previously weak Wiimote straps, it seems that Wii owners now have more time to spend crafting accessories than filling out medical paperwork. Sure, the more official steering wheel adornment has been available to purchase for quite awhile, but for those who can't (or have no desire to) conjure up the coin required to snag one, there's always the homegrown approach. It's quite possible that we've grown too accustomed to well planned and well executed mods and DIY creations, but we must say this attempt at crafting a Wii wheel looks to fall a bit short -- unless you dig incredibly lumpy and presumably slippery circles to steer with, of course. Nevertheless, we've got to give props for the not-so-typical blue tape used in the construction, but we're counting on Rev. B to be a much more refined rendition, capiche?[Via NintendoWiiFanboy]

The most unfortunate thing about this wheel is that it's completely useless. Games like excite truck require that you push buttons while driving to accelerate, boost, etc. The position of the Wiimote in this homemade wheel makes it just about impossible to press buttons while driving. The designer clearly has not thought this through very well.

well obviously, if you look at the Ubisoft steering wheel, the wiimote is facing you not upwards like in this steering wheel...
I totally can't wait to fling this at my tv set. Wow, it really opens up the world of gaming to people that never got into it before. The duct tape community. Who would have imagined? I wonder how long it would take Red Green to get on this bandwagon?

I've seen the steering wheel on sale by itself for $20 in Target. (I should have bought it when I saw it. Hindsight...) I wonder how much time and effort was spent by this doofus to create that monstrosity and how it was deemed not worthwhile just to buy the wheel or a game that comes with the wheel!
