Runometer maps your Nike+iPod data to running routes
We know many of you (including yours truly) recently took up running just to bask in that sweaty gadgety goodness of the Nike+iPod collaboration. Sure, the out-of-the-box experience is good, but wouldn't it be nice to have more control over your run data? The folks at Gordian Labs think so and built the Runometer site for that purpose. They provide all the details you'll need to extract and upload your run data from the bowels of the iPod. Once uploaded, you can manage and share your runs with others and even map the data to your running routes uploaded from GPS data or from tracings done in Google Maps. It's not as polished as the Nike+ site but as they say, the site is "not even in Beta" yet. Of course, if you choose to upload your data to the site we can't guarantee it won't end up in the hands of the government or other aliens looking to track your whereabouts. But if you're feeling like sticking it to the man (however you may define that) then go ahead, it don't cost nothin' but your time.

The site doesn't map your routes. You map your route manually with another service and they say hey, this run was with this route. Pointless.
'Here is my route, with all the places you can hide in wait for me. Bring a switchblade knife.'
The data is stored as xml files on the iplod. Its about time someone exploited it.
Here's a wordpress plugin to display your run data... it's not full of mappy-goodness, but it works:

On a side note...just over three miles in 54 minutes? Uhh....that does not qualify as a run - that is not even a fast walk. You really need to work more on the "running" and less on the "tech" :-)
I use a forerunner 305 that does the mapping itself, calculates distance, calories, altitude, speed, heart rate, averages and keeps a log of all of it for comparison and constant improvement. For music accompainment, i use my w810i with a 2gb ms, now, tht's what i cal a running tool.

I'm trading my NiKe+ sport kit for a Forerunner 201 which is like the one hugoliva described but without the heart monitor. My stats with the Nike+ seemed to be out of whack because where I run is hilly and that seems to mess up the way it calculates distances. The Forerunner uses GPS so it should be much better, plus you can upload the data to sites that will map the coordinates to mapping software for free. Picked the 201 up on eBay for less than $100.
Avoid getting strip-searched at the airport because of your stupid, overpriced, RFID-enabled shoes and use this URL instead --

Popular Mechanics just did a comparison test of electronic running gadgets...for serious route mapping they really liked the Moto KRZR and BiM Active setup and its seamless integration with Google Maps.

My thoughts exactly... let's hope the site doesn't feature membership and profiles.
I'm a 19 year old girl, here's my photo.. and here's the running path I take every Tuesday at 4.
Wow, this could be dangerous.
When is someone going to do something like this for bicycles? (Probably something to do with not encouraging people to listen to music whilst on the road.) Or maybe I could get my horse in two pairs of Nikes and see how I get on there...
I have Garmin Forerunner 305 but the I still bought Nike+ kit because Garmin has taken forever to release their footpod for indoor use. All the other players in the running gadget field (Polar Suunto, Nike, etc) have had a foot sensor for months now. All of them are based on the same technology from a Canadian company anyway. What's holding up Garmin?
3.19 miles in an hour? That's not a run.. that's walking
I think this is great for "fantasy runs". Map out the route of the Boston Marathon, do treadmilling at the gym, and see how long it takes you to run the route. Yeah, it's not earth-shattering OMG!!! But it is a nifty little exploit of the Nike+ data.
Hey Thomas Ricker, 3.53 miles per hour is a walk, not a run. Pick up the pace! ;-)
But seriously, congrats on just getting started. Keep it up - running gets more fun after you do it a while.
Hey, thats my neighborhood. Looks like you're jogging to the new park off Mahan. I bought the new nike+ shoes but haven't gotten much use out of them :)
Hardflip and John,
That's not my run data, it's sample data posted on the site. Mine is actually much slower. Sigh.

Im working on a site that tracks the data from Nike Plus files. Anyone is welcome to use it. It lets you do whatever you want with your data. Add and modify runs as you need. Export the data out to excel, and even create your own RSS Feed with it. Check it out at http://www.workoutdump.com. It is still a work in progress though.
Nike plus is a really impressive application, but i really don't want to pay any more money to go running. I've started using this site http://www.map-runner.com which is free and allows me to log my own routes, calories burned and find routes in my area. Check it out.
