Casio's EXILIM EX-Z1050 and EX-Z75 compact digicams
Looks like Casio is in the mood for ever-so-slight upgrades rather than completely revamping a pair of its EXILIM digital cameras, as the EX-Z1050 and EX-Z75 both seem to be brushed up versions of their former selves. Nevertheless, the 10-megapixel Z1050 sports that all too common shiny silver enclosure, 2.6-inch LCD monitor, anti-shake technology, up to ISO 3200, rechargeable Li-ion battery, USB 2.0 connectivity, and a 30fps VGA video mode as well. The slimmer, sleeker Z75 comes in with 7.2-megapixels, a equally sized 2.6-inch screen, 3x optical zoom, anti-shake, USB 2.0, and a "best shot" feature that presumably measures lighting and surroundings in order to automatically snap the most attractive shot. So while Casio hasn't done anything revolutionary here, you can still pick up the Z1050 for ¥12,990 ($107) or the Z75 for just ¥9,990 ($83) if you're content with middle-of-the-road.Update: Hold up, before you go buying a plane ticket to whatever fantasy land they sell these $80 cameras in: the quoted prices are actually in Taiwanese dollars, not yen, meaning that the Z1050 is dropping for $394 and the Z75 for $303.
[Thanks, Victor T.]

The website is linked to Taiwan, so the price is TWD which is about 1:33; therefore, Z1050 for 390 and Z75 for 300...

that's also dirt cheap in Japanese Yen prices. I don't think those prices are accurate.

Hi Bo,
Is it just model S?
I've looked that up on dpreview.com and says it weighed 115 grams.
That will be extremely hard to find a camera as light as the Optio S. Here are the cameras with similar weights or lighter (I know. There isn't much):
Olympus FE-230 (3X zoom) 7MP
105 grams
Olympus FE-240 (5X zoom) 7MP
115 grams (not too sure yet)
Olympus FE-250 (3X zoom) 8MP
115 grams (not too sure yet)
close ones...
Pentax Optio M30 (3X zoom) 7MP
120 grams
Canon SD40 (2.4X zoom) 7MP
120 grams

Just letting you know a small typo, "a equally sized 2.6-inch screen"
should be "an."

"best shot" is their term for modes that are set for the best picture for that shot. Preset modes you might also call it. Rather than 10 different dial settings for portraits or fast motion - they have about 30 camera settings (and you can create your own)
It's a very nice little feature that I enjoy on my Z850

actually "Best Shot" mode is a series of settings for specific scenarios. There are also some neat toys in BS: like Busines Card mode, where it will straighten the edges of the card (correcting the angular distortion). I use mine as a document scanner...

It amazes me that these 'compact' camera topics never include one critical item. Weight.
Gary Combs @ Jan 29th 2007 11:31AM
Weight has never concerned me. Best shot mode is a great tool that casios have had for awhile now. In some models best shot mode changes when the camera can do. I love it on my P700.

Actually, the US prices will be $300 and $230.

My optio S has just broken, better to find a replcament within the similar weight level, is Z75 under 100 grams?
ebz @ Mar 27th 2007 6:30PM
Casio is like the best ever.
