Luxiium Luxeed keyboard goes dark, stays lit with LEDs
For those of you feeling the white keyboard motif, the Luxeed pale-colored illuminator should certainly do the trick, and if you're holding tight to your Apple key, there's another option (sans color) just for you, but for those looking for stark contrasts and dark boards, Luxiium's latest Luxeed is what you're after. The sleek, black device sports a detachable number keypad, built-in palm rests, trackball media controller, and of course, the same programmable LED lighting action found in the white rendition, but only lights up the key's marking instead of the entire button. Unfortunately, we're still clueless on pricing or availability, but you can rest assured it'll likely clock in a good bit under the much-anticipated Optimus, and if you're interested in seeing a few closeups of the keyboard lightin' it up, be sure to click on through.[Via AkihabaraNews]

I take it the highlight colour is selectable via the programming?
Matt @ Jan 29th 2007 4:28PM
God, I hope so.

uhh... can anyone translate the link?
I am American and therefore have little or no experience with other languages.

One would think that they'd be able to put the number pad connections into pad to eliminate that ugly wire sticking out..

The site reports that custom colors are selectable for each key. you can also create color skins for the keyboard so that you can switch skins for a game and then change back to your normal colors for regular usage. And the black is DEFINITELY the way to go. It looks like the whole key lights up in the white version, whereas in the black, only the letter itself lights up. Awesome looking keyboard.

Looks very stylish but:
1. Why did they put the media controls right below the arrow keys, where they can be accidentally pressed?
2. Why did they put 6 freaking buttons so close above & around the arrow keys? Again, easy to press by mistake.
10 for style, 1 for ergonomics.

why oh why are they going with that oversized delete key?!
Ben @ Jan 29th 2007 7:06PM
I want ittt! Just hope it isn't unreasonably expensive. And speaking of the Optimus, where the hell is it?
BobMac @ Jan 29th 2007 9:35PM
This is exactly what I've been searching for. Why hasn't someone come out with a black, lit keyboard before?
z0phi3l @ Jan 29th 2007 11:24PM
IF this is ever available, I'm soo getting one.

Now they just need to build this into laptops, which is something I've been saying for YEARS.

The HTC Universal(WM5 Smartphone) has a light-up keyboard, and a light sensor so it knows when to light up. Very slick. They think of everything.

Apple has been putting backlit keyboards in the PowerBooks and MacBook Pro's for years. I believe even Dell has that gamer laptop with a backlit keyboard.
undersaur @ Feb 2nd 2007 1:58AM
It's like a riced-out Logitech DiNovo.
You gotta admit: the media button ring motif, laptop-style keys, half-height function keys, Delete key style (double height at the expense of Insert), and detachable numpad make for an uncanny resemblance.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but that's a WM phone, not a laptop.
