Apple sez iTunes users should hold off on Vista
As if filming a commercial dissing Microsoft for Vista upgrade hassles wasn't enough, Apple has issued a warning to iTunes users that they should wait for Apple to issue a patch before making the switch to Vista. Apparently some users are encountering problems playing purchased music and videos, synchronizing address book contacts and calendar dates, and slowed response time, along with the occasional outright corruption of connected iPods. Such problems don't affect everyone, but they're pervasive enough for Apple to advise users to wait on the upgrade. According to Apple spokesman Derick Mains, "Although iTunes 7.0.2 may work with Windows Vista on many typical PCs, Apple is aware of some known compatibility issues and recommends that iTunes customers wait to upgrade to Windows Vista until after the next release of iTunes, which will be available in the next few weeks." We're guessing Microsoft is a tad bit miffed that one of the most popular pieces of software on Windows is incompatible with its fledgling operating system -- it's not like Apple didn't have ample warning of the launch -- but in all fairness, it took Microsoft's own Zune a few weeks to catch up to Vista, at least in the Business incarnation.Update: Thanks to the comments below pointing out that Apple has indeed released what appears to be at least a partial fix to the Vista / iTunes problems, specifically to "repair permissions." So if after that dire warning above you're still willing to give it a shot, you can grab the iTunes Repair Tool for Vista 1.0 and give it a whirl.

Ratteler, oh well... Okay, keep with your Apple OS and enjoy your photoshop
This would have been a very low swipe from Apple if they hadn't release the update so soon.
The beta for Vista has been out for years, and they have had plenty of time to put together a patch for the release because the corporate edition has been out since November - the point of which is to verify the compatibility of software.
At least they have resolved these issues.
wowhooooooohoho...what a narrow mind company...i'm using a macbook, but i won't consider to buy another apple product in future, not even an ipod...jesus
Apple to Microsoft: We'll release Vista-compatible iTunes when you release Universal Office. Deal?
Microsoft to apple: we have by far the dominant market share; go fuck yourself.
when most people upgrade to vista and itunes crashes they will say "oh my god stupid windows".....ignorant users
I guess every user who has experience or doesn't care to use OSX; and prefers Windows OS is an IDIOT?
Give me a break.
The problem is with security... Vista controls access a little more and Itunes can't get write access to some of its files. Under "Program Files" you can fix Itunes by right clicking on Itunes.exe directly and selecting “run and administrator”. You can also create a shortcut to Itunes, on the compatibility tab select the “Run as administrator” check box... this will fix the issues until there is a patch...

I think the patch they've put out fixes problems with music you've bought from them, but the Audible DRM is still completely broken under the x64 version of Vista - can't authorize any of your Audible stuff for playback currently.
There's a note about this on the US audible (Audible.com) support site - but seemingly no trace on the Apple one.
BS I've been using itunes fine since Vista beta 2
So why have I been able to use Itunes for months with Vista? It took all of 5 seconds to see some read-only files that needed adjusting....
I agree that this is BS from Apple of the highest order. iTunes 7 has been a dog almost from day one, causing tons of problems on my macbook. I haven't tried it under Vista yet, but I'm hard pressed to come up with a reason why they couldn't find time to make it work during the glacially slow Vista development period. Hell, Vista's been in public beta longer than gmail. (joke) The certainly found plenty of time over the development to take potshots at Vista and steal+integrate features from Windows.
The crazy thing is that lately MS has been acting so much cooler than Apple. Granted their marketing sucks, but some of their divisions are actually showing signs of innovative/entrepreneurial thought. For instance, like Media Center is far better than Front Row, and I'd far rather have a Media Center machine + xbox360 MCE than Front Row and AppleTV.
Finally Blake:
You asked how a crappy Gateway machine could beat a Mac Pro. To be honest, I'm a little skeptical of that claim w/o a link, but it'd be a combination of two facts. One, the fully buffered memory used in the Mac Pro has noticeably less bandwidth and higher latency than the memory used in most Core 2 machines. Two, not a lot of software is going to utilize four cores better than two. Combine those two facts, and you've got a recipe for a cheap piece of crap (aka Gateway) beating a workstation like a Mac Pro.
Apple really blew it this time. They should be encouraging people buy $200 products from their biggest competitor, Microsoft. It is totally in Apple's best interest for Microsoft to capture an even bigger share of the personal computer market. And why wait till the first major bugs are fixed in Vista before releasing new software.. what kind of idot company would do that?
Oh, and for that matter, why should apple even make an operating system... they should devote their entire efforts to writing Microsoft apps. their so stupid...
WTF Apple itune been doing the last couple of months?? Didn't they they that Vista was coming out? Either talking about unprofessionalism or having a big ego. I would be pissed too if I bought their products and find out that it doesn't work properly on certain OS. Talking about sitting on your ass.
All I have to say is that Apple visually is stunning in some of their products. They know how to make thing look nice. What do you expect? Jobs is a CEO of Pixar. I can't say exactly the same about their programmers.
