Sony announces CPF-IP001 iPod audio docking station
It's not the first iPod accessory we've seen from Sony, but the company's new CPF-IP001 iPod audio docking station is by far the most prominent display of its newfound iPod love/tolerance to date, and will no doubt cause more of a stir than that car adapter it tried to slip out under the radar. Sony doesn't appear to have gone all out in its iPod acceptance, however, with no mention of the near ubiquitous "Made for iPod" seal of approval to be found. The unit itself looks like it can hold its own though, with the two main speakers delivering 5W apiece and the separate subwoofer pumping out 15W to back 'em up. You'll also get a remote control and an additional line input if you want to plug in something with a little more room-shaking ability. Sony also doesn't appear to be wasting any time getting this one out the door, with it available to order now now for $250.[Thanks, Mark]

That chattering and shaking noise you just heard.... yea, that's hell freezing over.

Sometimes I can't understand Sony. I just hate that they have no real direction these days.
I have "The Radio" w/ an AUX input & it works perfectly, has good sound & includes (of course) a radio.
Plus it's nothing more than a black box w/ 3 knobs. Can't beat that.

Yeah, yeah. Call it a Tivoli knock off. I personally like the nondescript look better.

Hah, for a second I thought that woofer was the power brick.

That thing looks unsuprisingly stupid. Sony, stick to making shit for your own players.

Not every designer goes to the same design school as Microsoft designers.

So lets see?!. We have Sony, which can't compete with the DAP player market, we have Creative, which has an DAP player that is good but came out to late to be considered a competitor. Now both of these companies have a docking station for the Ipod. Yet my DAP(Zen Vision:m) has nothing except that one dock from Creative. Boy I sure am glad I bought this bad boy.
gullum @ Feb 2nd 2007 3:31PM
I can't blame Sony for cashing in on the sheep.. er I mean iPod owners. Few people know that Sony makes DAPs with sound quality far beyond what apple offers but a LOT of people know that sony makes electronics. If they see it in Best Buy the average joe will have no qualms shelling out some cash for a "premium" ipod dock.

a shitty looking dock for a shitty player.

They already released this with a Sony Ericsson logo for their Walkman phones:

That's why it was out so quick.

The service manuals for the CPF-IP001, SA-IP001, CPFIP001P has been out since December on Sony ESI (http://service-asc.sel.sony.com).
Also there's the CPF-NW001 for Walkmans.

Listened to it the other day, in the sonystyle store. It's, by far, the best sounding dock for the ipod I've heard. In a store that size, the tiny sub was able to fill the area around me. Funny though, stick your finger in the tiny port and all that sound goes away -please don't be the idget that explains to me why. The main drivers had nice, full sound. Again, the best I've heard. And I've demoed all the docks in the Apple store...

Wish Sony would make a docking station for the Walkman! Sales dude in Best Buy told me they did, I bought it for my girlfriend and check out the Sony store and no such thing. Why are they making docks for Ipods and not their own products???

For that amount of money you might just as well go with the Bose docking station. There are many docking stations out there that sound great and don't cost nearly as much. http://www.amazinggiftsnmore.com
