Aftermarket sun visor boasts display, DVD / TV / MP3 playback
Anyone who lives in a moderately large city or has seen just about any episode of Cribs is probably familiar with the LCD-infused sun visor, but the Sun Visor Theater ups the ante on the usual rendition by including the multimedia playback utilities right alongside the LCD. This aftermarket visor is sure to look completely awkward installed all by its lonesome on just the passenger's side, but packs a seven-inch widescreen display, built-in DVD / CD /MP3 player, TV tuner, and even includes an SD slot and USB port for additional expansion options. Moreover, you'll get integrated controls and a wireless remote, and while we're not sure if this thing includes a built-in speaker, we do spot a couple of headphone jacks just in case. So if you're looking for an admittedly tacky way to add a bit of in-car entertainment before your next long haul, and aren't swayed by the fact that a one-year warranty costs an additional $45, the Sun Visor Theater is available now for $299.95.

Does it include a camera so that it can still act as a mirror?
Hmm, maybe I should patent that idea!

Carl M, include in your design a rear view camera for use when backing up.

Certain RVs (motor homes) have had this feature for several years, actually. But it would be nice on normal cars, too. I'm surprised it hasn't been done already, actually. It wouldn't add much to the cost of the vehicle. $200, if that.

Not safe; not cool.

Looks sort of neat, but it seems like your neck would hurt after awhile watching something on this. Good for music, I guess, but then you'd probably be better off buying a cheap mp3 CD player if that's what you really want to play.

jas @ Feb 5th 2007 8:21PM
what is the website where they sell these?
Rick Lyon @ Feb 6th 2007 8:53AM
Looks nice. Only I after visiting their website I was left too uncomfortable to seriously consider purchasing from them. What cars does it fit? What rez is the screen? What are the wire connections? Etc. Then the forced warranty? Sorry, it's not that nice to bypass all common sense about purchasing with little known or confirmed product information.

Perhaps if you don't have anything better to watch than an exercise machine informercial, your time is better spent looking at pretty scenery or listeding to "To Kill a Mockingbird" on books on tape.

a lot of hard work went into that piece

Hey, I've been reading through the basics of after market products (I found this site, http://www.aftermarketsales.com and a few others) and I just got into the idea of it. My question is this: this particular after market product isn't really essential, is it? It's more of a novelty - and a potentially dangerous one at that. Do consumer good aftermarkets really have to resort to this kind of thing?
