Engadget photo contest -- we have a winner!

We called the polls for our photo contest -- you guys voted, and we have a winner! The grand prize, a Nikon D80 kit, is going home with Juan Carlos Lopez! Second place is going to David Browning, third to Scott Whiting, and fourth to AJ Mast. It just reinforces my suspicion that with all of the 'design' criticisms posted on this site, most (not all, some make valid points) of you wouldn't know good art or good design if it kicked you in the ass.

Saving waterlogged / soda spilled electronics isn't that difficult, I've done it many times myself. Just buy a bottle of 99% rubbing alcohol and submerge the device. The alcohol will absorb and displace the water and dissolve any gooey stuff like soda or juice. Then remove and let it dry. Alcohol evaporates much quicker than water so your gizmo should be up and running with about a day of drying.

I look at it this way... According to the people here at Engadget, if something is white, rectangular or even worse, has a dial/round knob on it, it's an iPod ripoff.

Because, you know, Apple invented rectangles and rounded edges, white too.

i wonder if the results would have been the same if the rules were a little more strict.

I voted for that image thinking that it was not shopped, but that he risked the phone for a cool picture.

I never made the last supper connection from the thumbnail, when i saw the images that took 2nd, 3rd and 4th. I thought that they were a lot more powerful than their thumbnail let on.

Maybe next time we should have a preliminary election, and then a final election.

Wow, this could have been my wife. She took a swim with a T610 last summer when (supposedly) wading out to the boat. Phone soaked and DOA (not wife even though I throw a fit - it was MY phone).
Phone did eventually actually power up, but never started. Reminds me, when I have some time, I should pull it out of the drawer and try it again. Those SEMC phones never really die, they just move to the basement.

As for the photo, great work Juan Carlos! It is live, it is vibrant, but the most impressing is of course that this is just before the phone actually dies. See you're using TelCel as your carrier (or at least used to).
