Maria Hamprecht's SW° solar lamp can take it in, dish it out
The concept isn't difficult, the design ain't nothing fancy, and we're sure the "I totally had that idea first" bystanders are numerous, but all the same we've gotta give Maria Hamprecht props for her simplistic SW° Solar Lamp. The cute little bit of furniture sits in a window and soaks up sunlight all day with its solar panels, to be dispersed as electric light at night. No plugs or clunky attachments needed. Unfortunately, there's no indication this lamp is much more than a working prototype at the moment, but hopefully Maria will sell out to The Man before too terribly long and get these things produced, with a $20 Wal-Mart version soon to follow.

Elegant and useful.
Kudos!
spadge @ Feb 8th 2007 6:37AM
I hope you are talking about the lamp...
Bad Beaver @ Feb 8th 2007 7:10AM
@Â franzbonus: Shut up, scum. It is due to deranged minds like yours being allowed to speak in public that countless females spend their days "pimping" their looks instead of being productive while they wait for the next meal to cancel or throw up again. Your brainless projections of your personal preferences are an embarrassment for whole species. Please crawl back in your hole and stay there. Thank you.

Yeah, that Freedom Of Speech thing doesn't cover all speech, right?
Anway, You'd have to remember to place the lamp near the window to get direct sunlight, right? And what if it rained that day? I don't know...good concept but how practical is it in real life?

Says someone calling themselves "Bad Beaver"...
Bad Beaver @ Feb 8th 2007 9:11AM
Admittedly, yet you have no idea about the origin of my nick. Don't judge a book by its cover ;)
Rob @ Feb 8th 2007 8:56AM
I think she's cute!
Bad Beaver @ Feb 8th 2007 10:49AM
If you look around the world today you will see that, yes, Freedom Of Speech does not cover all speech.
Of course anyone may say as he wish. In the same way I may also wish him or her to shut up. Especially if it involves a blatant display of destructive assholism as in this case.

Solar energy is more than just sun vs. rain, retard.

Beaver you give more credit to a jerks post then there should be. Anyway, this is a cool product. Next time another cool product like this comes out. Lets all be sure to insult the geeks apperance if he's a guy. Cause we ALL know how attractive they are!

By "dish it out", I assumed it could double as a spatula. How flat is it?

Enlighten me between your Mensa meetings, please.

Bad Beaver -
Blame shifting is bad. People do dumb things because they make a choice to do so.
Bad Beaver @ Feb 8th 2007 12:42PM
Very good points, Gary.
Mile @ Feb 8th 2007 1:13PM
Yes! It's very true that guys get all angry when other guys are called unattractive! Why, what you're proposing will certainly get every man here up in arms! I'm glad I'm in on it so that I will refrain from becoming all agitated!
LOL!!

Nice idea, but what's the difference between this and solar powered garden lights you can buy everywhere for about £15 and up? The only dfference I can see is the area of the home it's designed for and it wouldn't be much of a stretch for existing manufacturers to adapt their designs to a table lamp format.

I knew I should have patented my idea last year....
Ryan @ Feb 8th 2007 8:10PM
Yeah I don't see this as being that revolutionary...not to the "I totally had that idea first" point like the article claims. I'm guessing the post author has been stuck in an urban jungle all his life b/c out here in suburbia, for the last 5 years or so everyone has been getting those solar powered patio lights and solar powered light up house numbers lately. They charge via solar and glow via LED light all night long (hopefully - but the batteries usually give out after a couple years).
