HTC finally took the wraps off its hotly-anticipated (and
well-scooped) "Vox" handset at 3GSM today. The feature set is, by and large, pretty indistinguishable from any other Windows Mobile device these days (quadband EDGE, 2 megapixel camera, 2.4 inch QVGA display, microSD support, WiFi, 128MB of Flash, and 64MB of RAM), but it gets juicy when you slide the Vox's two halves apart to reveal a (gasp!) full QWERTY keypad. By
Pocket PC WM6 Professional standards, that's nothing new -- heck, HTC's own devices have had that trick up their sleeves
for ages -- but never before in Smartphone trim. Because it's a Smartphone, it'll come equipped with the
Standard version of Windows Mobile 6, and we're thinking it'll be likely packing one of the most luxurious typing experiences of any WM6 Standard device on the market (which, of course, we can use to express in email and SMS our frustration to HTC about the lack of a 3G radio). Click on to the gallery for the full exposé of HTC's newest, leanest, meanest QWERTY device doing its thing!

Please please please let tmobile get this phone! I'd sell my Dash in a heartbeat for it.

This is comming to verizon right? They need a desperate update

This needs a (slightly larger) touchscreen, 3g and WM6 Pro (making it a pda phone)! I'd ditch my 8525 for it then.

Wow, that is one amazing phone. Seconding the hoping it comes to Tmobile!

Why do people see lack of a touchscreen as a bad thing? A stylus is a terrible input device.
I want this BECAUSE it doesn't have a touchscreen. I wouldn't mind having a touchscreen as an additional feature but the problem is they make navigation impossible without it. I'm always pulling out the stylus when I should be able to use a button.

Can they just make this without the keyboard so it's slimmer? Why has no smartphone passed the age-old Audiovox 5600 in thinness?

slideshow for the gallery would be nice

17 phones in 12 hours on engadget...
Isn't this why there's an engadget mobile?

They can't make a smartphone without a keyboard as they are essentially useless without one. Of course truth be told - even with one a windows mobile phone without a touchpad is like shoving a lawnmower engine in a porsche. Not sure why the still make that version of Windows mobile - whatever name they are calling it now. At least they don't call it smartphone any more as that would be a misnomer.

If not for the lack of a touchscreen, and slew of recent iPhone rip-offs, I'd say this is among the best WM6 devices out there.
IMHO HTC has squandered their lead with WinMo devices. Suddenly every company with even a passing interest in the tech sector has an iPhone rip-off slated, and HTC's devices are now too ugly too compete!

First Verizon wouldnt get it because the phone is GSM (im pretty sure) and Second, Isnt T-mobile supposed to get the WM6 exclusive?
modenadude @ Feb 13th 2007 1:39AM
Put me up for another T-Mobile buy - I got my SDA, and it's that time of the year for a new phone - and yah, I read T-Mobile gets all the WM6 handsets before the other guys... sounds good to me!
