Neonode's N2: the iPhone is just "following" its lead
We knew the announcement was coming, now here's the product: the Neonode N2. According to Neonode's 3GSM press release, "Apple's iPhone and several other manufactures" are just "following the lead set by Neonode." Of course, they are referring to their N1 which stuttered onto the scene back in 2004. Hyperbole aside, the quad-band GSM / GPRS N2 does look pretty sweet bringing MiniSD support to store your media, a 2 megapixel camera, and a 2-inch, 176 x 220, 65k color, and of course a touch-screen display all boxed up in a small 47x77x14.7-mm / 70-gram package. We'll try to get a hands-on of a working prototype from our crew in Barcelona later today. Until then, color us skeptics... we've been burned by our Neonode enthusiasm before.

You mean "stuttered" not "suttered"

Neonode is the mobile phone industry's equivalent to the "Phantom" (oh the irony in that name) in the gaming industry.
Over promised and under-devlivered.
Yeah it will suck
TheBugMan @ Feb 12th 2007 8:54AM
HaHa! I went to Krukvaxt link :-) It's a boy and girl!
Engadget, you can never make us happy. Too much this, too little that, yadda, yadda, blah, blah...
I'm just happy you didn't write "Another iPhone clone".
CowboyGA @ Feb 12th 2007 8:55AM
Wow, Engadget is cranking out the phones today. This is what I get for rarely checking out Engadget Mobile. However, I like some of these phones, this one included. I'd click on the link for more info, but I have a feeling I won't be seeing this phone with US Verizon until... ever. And even then, it'll cost too much.

Who? Neon-what?
Looks like a 1980s remote control to me.
Gary Hodden @ Feb 12th 2007 9:43AM
That's pretty darn small for a phone. http://www.sizeasy.com/page/comp/539

Neonode is now owned by SBEI which has a hearing the 22nd on whether they can stay listed on the Nasdaq. Not sure this company will be around to bring this to the market.

Yea, I can tell Steve greatly studied this phone before conceptualizing the iPhone??
Aaron @ Feb 12th 2007 10:37AM
That's very cool, actually. I hope it really becomes available soon.
Mattazuma @ Feb 12th 2007 10:48AM
And I bet it doesn't have Bluetooth, just like the N1 didn't.
I was excited about the N1 phone, until it was a year late & wouldn't work in the US.
Dave @ Feb 12th 2007 7:24PM
If you actually enter the Neonode site you will read: Bluetooth:* Obex, Headset, FTP profiles supported. Not very hard to find out. No WiFi and 65k colors do suck though. My hopes were higher for this phone.

At least the shell is so much better than the previous one. The screen looks brighter and not so much sunken-in (what? still 176x220??). However, the joystick looks a bit cheapish, does someone have more photos?
Anon @ Feb 12th 2007 11:28AM
I've actually held it and no part of this phone comes off cheapish, I saw it a month ago and can't remember if it had BT or not. The joystick is a solid joystick however you really don't need it as the entire thing is swipe and tap driven. Unless your playing a game.

Those cheaters at Apple always stealing everyone else's ideas.
DeTinux @ Feb 12th 2007 3:11PM
"Those cheaters at Apple always stealing everyone else's ideas."
Sure... Apple stole the entire concept that you can use a small, device to transmit sounds to somebody else and to receive sounds from that same person, in order to have a conversation with somebody who is not even with you! And guess what! It's all wireless!
Come on dude, Apple is just making a phone like all the others. Why the hell has every new multimedia phone to be compared to Apple's mobile, which isn't even released? Apple has to prove they are capable of making a phone. They did a great job with the iPod and Mac OS X so the iPhone sure will be good. Perhaps I will buy one...
But this thread is not about the iPhone, it's about the Neonode N2, which seems to be delicious as well... at least from the pics you can google.
